You have ESPN! I was just thinking about doing/starting something similar. I just turned 42, have a two yr old and a 7 month old and I’ve lost myself a bit. Everything I do is for them, and although it sounds great, I’m facing burnout more than I’d like to admit. Thank you for making this video! And thank you universe er… Algorithm for putting it into my feed ❤

That's so sweet of you to say! You should make one weekly non-negotiable to do something for yourself that doesn't involve anyone else.

I completely agree with you. Our society, but especially some of the younger generations, act like aging is the worst thing that can happen to you when it’s a privilege to age. If you’re not aging, you’re ☠️. There are amazing things about every age and stage of life and I wish people would focus on that, rather than thinking life ends at 30. 40 IS young 😊

Great ideas! Like how you mentioned add-on, edit, and adjust with goals! I need to drink more water, focus on self-care, and fitness! My favorite exercise is walking, I also like using KZbin walking workouts like Leslie Sansone and Gina B from the channel Up To the Beat fit, She has some fun dance walks. With self-care, Diane in Denmark usually on her Friday videos on her channel is giving four self-care assignments to choose from for week.
@whitneysommer23513 ай бұрын
Thanks 😊 I love walking! I try and do a big walk with a friend at least once a week. You get to socialize and get in some exercise at the same time. I'll definitely check out those channels. I love the idea of self-care assignments for the week!

Im 41 and I have started to do some of what you've talked about. I don't usually get enough exercise but I've been walking for at least an hour (sometimes twice) every day and I feel so good for it. I also just re joined the gym after a 2 year break. I have started taking my vitamins, eating healthier and drinking more water. These little things make such a difference to your health, which is especially important as we get older. Great video. keep it up!

I think that becoming your best self is a great goal. I'm just concerned that you are overloading yourself with all these "non-negotiables". I used to follow a practice of examining 8 life aspects every quarter, ranking myself on how I was doing in each area and then I'd set 2-3 goals per area (like "drink more water" or "call a friend I haven't seen in months") and, because journalling is important to me, I'd toss that in as a daily goal, for a usual total of 20-25 goals per quarter. (While some goals were daily, many weren't.) And every quarter I'd mentally beat myself up because I had "failed" miserably. I had so many goals to keep track of that, often I didn't even remember that a particular goal had even been on my list for the quarter until I did that end-of-quarter check in! My advice? Pick fewer goals (1 to 3). Make them things you *really* want (not things you think you "should" want or that are trendy). Be realistic about how many good habits you already have and don't try to form more than one solid new habit per quarter. Try to "temptation bundle/habit stack". For example, if you regularly brush your teeth twice a day, you could try adding on flossing one of those times. Make it super easy. Put the floss beside your toothbrush and paste. But don't necessarily expect to become a regular flosser by Q4 if your toothbrushing is haphazard. Or, say you hate to fold and put away the clean laundry and it often sits around in baskets, getting wrinkled and mixed with dirty clothes. Try picking a show on Netflix and only watching it while you fold the laundry! Don't say, "But I need to do more!" Which is better (and faster in the long run)? Trying to take on a dozen new things every few months and being lucky if one of them sticks, even temporarily? Or adding 1 or 2 new habits that really fire you up every quarter and actually solidifying them?
@whitneysommer23513 ай бұрын
Thank you for the advice! I agree that it's not good to overload yourself with too much all at once, which is one of the reasons why I made the challenge 90 days as opposed to a month. I'm already habit stacking - I learnt so much from the book atomic habits. My goal is to put habits in place that I can work and improve on. I'm not putting any pressure on myself nor do I believe anyone else should.

Whitney I just came across this video. THANK YOU! I once heard someone say you can start a whole new life at 40 and I think that is true. As someone who will be 37 in 2 months, I am trying to plan in advance for the BIG 4-0. Thanks for the vid!
