Justine always makes cooking over and open fire look effortless. I've made venison stew, but never a venison pie. I'll definitely try your recipe this fall. And the peach pie brought back so many memories of my grandmother. Her peach pies were the best! And whenever she made one they never lasted long.

I remember my Mom making pies like this. She would say if we got the little green apples she would make one for my buddies and one for the family. We climbed that old tree and waited for that pie! She had the advantage of a gas oven, of course. When my uncle came back from WWII, she made a peach pie and he ate 3/4 of it and was so sick. He cried it was so good after the years in the Africa and Europe theatres. I enjoy these videos because it reminds me of the days when we ate really good meals. Well done!!!

Justine incredible!!!! Loved the skit. I stand or sit by the stove and make meals. Look at me you would think I just got out of the shower without drying off. You cook all the time in that warm cabin with a fireplace. Probably find me on the floor from over heating. Really Really impressed with you Justine!!

You can get a much better fit for your pie crust if you lay it down in the pie plate and then cut around the edge with a knife. You’ll also capitalize on left over pie shell that way for your lattice work. Thanks for posting this content! As a history teacher in Canada, I find this very interesting.

I'm only a couple of hours from the area and want to plan a weekend of historical activities and sights for the heck of it. I honestly had NO IDEA that there was really so much down there when it comes to early American history. I SHOULD have known that, given that I've lived here my whole life, but your channel has helped me find a bunch of ideas of places to go and things to see! I always thought it was "see the mounds, go to the Arch, go to the museums and go home". Nope, so much more to do!

When I was a kid, we’d go over to grandma’s and beg her to make raspberry pie! “You have to go pick the berries first” she’d say. It was a lot of work but she made the BEST pies! Always a lard crust and she’d always bake them in the wood stove oven, so not far off from what Justine does. ☺️💕

I watch Justine cook on a hot summer day over a fire, and it reminds me what it was like before modern conveniences. It wasn't a choice; meals had to be made. Women back then were tough. They were heroes, as were the men, who had to chop down trees, clear land and hunt to feed their families. Thanks Justine, [and Ron] for bringing back the past, so we can remember and appreciate it. Beautiful, pies. I'll bet they were so delicious! I'll have to step on over to Frontier Patriot to find out😊🙏🙏
