Kyle grew up like most Northern California kids - active in all sports from swimming and golf in the summer to skiing in the winter; soccer, baseball, basketball, football, volleyball, you name it. Kyle was diagnosed with Friedreich's Ataxia at age 17. Although FA has hindered his ability to participate in some of the sports he loves, FA has enhanced Kyle's passion for cycling. Kyle founded Ride Ataxia in 2007; a movement that has raised $1.5 million for FA research. Kyle's cycling feats include completion of Race Across America -- a 3,000 mile race which his 4-man team finished in 8 days, 8 hours, and 14 minutes. Kyle graduated from the University of California Davis in 2005 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Kyle worked for 5 years as an Environmental Engineer in Sacramento before becoming spokesperson for the Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA).

TEDxPhoenixville, the first TEDx event in the Philadelphia region, celebrates the creative, innovative and inspiring work happening right here and all around the world. Our objective is to present thought-provoking ideas via an annual day-long event featuring compelling speakers and performers.
Welcome to Ideaville, a place where local can mean everything from our solar system to our community. A place where YOUR BACKYARD becomes a universe of amazing ideas. In 2012 TEDxPhoenixville explored your backyard from the perspective of the arts, science, technology, education and humor, and how a lively mixture of ideas and people can lead to inspiration and innovation.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.*

Iam a caretaker for a wonderful and strong woman who has fa. She was diagnosed at the age of 12 years old and is now 36. Thank you for taking the time to share your story. I shall share my best friends story before she loses her voice. She inspires me, has taught me so much, iam still out of words as to how I can describe our journey together. I love her to bits and pieces!

My girlfriend has FA. I love the positivity! Such a terrible disease. A cure can't come soon enough. I don't want to see another person go through what she has.

Thanks for the inspiration Kyle. It does start with the first mile. We need need inspiration every day. I am a fellow ataxian but have a different type. (SCA2) When I stepped on the beach in San Diego 2 1/2 years ago I have walked over 6000 miles since I ditched my cane that day. I struggle every day but keep walking so I don't roll. Eventually I will have to but I choose the joy of life every day.

upmost respect mate. my mum had F.A, and was wheelchair bound in her early 20s she`s sadly no longer with us. she unfortunately never shared the same spirit i see in you in this video. doctors were i live were clueless, she basically was given ibuprofen and later on a muscle relaxant pill to combat muscle spasms for her final 4 years. more research is needed!.. but mate your an absolute credit to the human species and i wish you all the luck in the world and mostly your health. peace bro...

Awesome to hear your talk. I got to see you off when you left Oceanside on that RAM race that year. Also got to meet you today on the trail in Huntington Beach during your fundraising ride. Keep doing what you are doing... so awesome.

I have FA, but right now I can still walk. It kind of is a bummer to think of what my future has in store for me, but for now I’m hoping I won’t lose the ability to drive. I won’t mind when I can’t walk, but my passion for driving and racing keeps me going forward. If I lose that, I’m really going to try to find something else before I lose hope. I know I’m kinda only talking about myself here but I just needed somewhere to vent about it a little
