Spending every summer with my grandmother in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. Pleasure Isle Motel. Special magical childhood memories are flooding back, seeing the old photos. Thank you for this. I remember the hangout. Crabbing was my favorite thing to do. Go to the old pass with a dip net and cooler. Life was good. ☮️💜😎

I grew up there every summer my grandparents built a cottage in the early 60's. They would spend a lot time back during 50's then retired in mid 60's. I remember when it would be a ghost town from Labor Day. Everything was boarded up. I have such great memories of Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Wolf Bay Lodge. I remember when there was almost nothing between Gulf Shores all the way to Alabama Point. I had great childhood.

I LOVE this! I’ve called Birmingham “home” since 1973 and I’ve been to Orange Beach during the summers more times than I can remember. I’ll be winding up a 30 year career with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office soon, and after I tie up a few loose ends, I’ll be living my dream and moving to Orange Beach in less than a year! I hope y’all won’t mind another transplant making my home down there - I can’t wait!

Born in Mobile in the ‘50s. Every year my family rented a cabin on Fort Morgan Rd. The cabin didn’t even have A/C but we didn’t care. It was under the trees and right on the lagoon, and we would spend all day water-skiing, crabbing and fishing, and beaching. About the only thing in Gulf Shores was the Pink Pony Pub back then, and of course, The FloraBama. As a teenager, I fished out of a Stauter Built Boat all over Mobile, Orange Beach and Dauphin Island. I tell everyone that when I was 18, I decided to see the world leaving Mobile and making it as far as Pensacola. Been here ever since. After I retired, got a “ fun job,” working in the tackle shop on the Gulf State Pier, but after about a year, I got tired of the drive, and retired again. The Northern Gulf Coast will always be home to me.

Just a correction here please. The Canoe in the museum is actually 27 feet 3 inches long, not 35 feet as you were told. thank you.

Hasn’t changed much? To the contrary… it’s night and day different 😔
