Ive read the comics, idk if this is the same Max from those comics but her timeline jumping powers are present in the comic. Theres a timeline where Max, Rachel, Chloe meet then theres one where Max and Chloe dad die in the same crash. Basically, they can change anything they want with the story really. Such is life when the multiverse is a plot device

Maybe this is the timeline that branched off from the original timeline when Max tried to escape the Dark Room. Her photo won the contest and she was invited to go in San Francisco with the Principal. The storm still hit Arcadia Bay but Chloe was left in there as well. She died from the storm while Max was in San Francisco. In LIS 1 though, Max obviously went back and fixed it but maybe doing so resulted in another version of her failing to rewind and couldn't save Chloe.

Since there will be two parallel timelines, I'd guess one is following the bay and the other the bae ending. I also think if you saved Chloe, you can't save Safi as well. 10:44 Moses: Didn't take you as a "It's the journey, not the destination" type. Max: I mean, I guess I'm not. It's more like sometimes you reach the destination alone, and that's ok. It makes me think about the ending of LIS1, where even after a week with Chloe, she had to die in the very beginning to save the town and all their innocent friends and families. At the end, Max is alone, but all their journey are still in her memory. And that's ok.
