I remember reading about this fascinating affliction last year called mirror touch synesthesia from a book in the library about weird brain disorders. Basically these people's brains have trouble distinguishing others and self so they literally feel what others feel. Like if you scratch your face and someone with mirror touch synthesis is watching their brain mimics what it feels like to scratch your face and they feel it as if it happened to them too. Obviously Alex's powers focus more on the emotional aspect rather than physical sensations a person is feeling. But like even the way she begins tapping her foot subconsciously when someone else is doing it, makes me feel like she has really overactive mirror neurons or something. And the colour aspect of her powers kind of plays into the synesthesia too. I just think it's really cool that the power in this game is actually kind of a thing in real life too (I mean I've never met someone with time-rewind abilities but then maybe that's what they WANT me to think). I wonder if the game developers had this in mind when writing the game or if it's just a cool coincidence.

Plus, Pike calls her Rat-Girl when most choose to have Alex take his fear of Typhon away. On the other hand, she's also likened to a cat by therapist Dr. Lynn ("Has anyone seen my patient? Answers to Alex. She's always scratching at the door. But she's been declawed.").

I relate an incredible amount to Alex. Superficially and emotionally. I am asian, sapphic (i am lesbian though), I even dress similarly haha. I also find myself often feeling responsible for helping others. I used to be hyperaware of other people's emotions (though I wouldn't call it supernatural empathy or anything). At some point though, I think I burned out and shut down, now I have a lot of trouble reading people. I finished the game recently (dont worry, no spoilers) and it was quite a therapeutic playthrough for me. A lot of issues I had to voice aloud and face, and problems that I wanted to fix for Alex were problems I wanted to fix for myself. I won't say much more to avoid spoilers. Great playthrough so far you guys! Love it, hope you are doing well

Im an empath and being around people is truly draining. This game spoke to me on so many levels. I grew up in an emotionally manipulative and abusive household I learned mocking emotions and paying attention to everyone else's energies and emotions kept me from trouble. I used to call myself a social chameleon it was only after going to therapy that I learned it was trauma response and that I was an empath. Im in cbt for it but its still hard even now.

alex has four abilities that are all interlinked (and i know this because the LIS website says so, you can look it up yourself): Empath (sense and feel emotions), Telepath (read minds), Psychometry (sense auras of certain objects and/or people which enables hr to see the world as a reflection of their aura/ emotional state) and the fourth n final power is Emotional Absorption (the power to remove emotional feelings from people but this can be dangerous to herself). "sacrificing people for a town that nice" lol funny, i will remember that for my uncle who lives in a lovely quiet town himself. but realistically there must be a drawback to this town...i do agree about that...any town that nice must have a dark secret.

Shǔ means mouse or rat in Mandarin. A little bit hard to tell for sure without accent marks, but I assume that's what Alex named her childhood toy after cause the alternatives I can think of don't make much sense. Shūshu also means uncle and much like English, is often used as a term of endearment for people even if they're not actual blood relatives. But Alex refers to Shu-Shu as a "she" and seems like kind of a weird name for a stuffed animal.

I understand the empath stuff more than I like. I found out I am one in a very crappy way. I would always pick up emotions, but I will never forget when it came out full force. I was in the frontlines (working) during the breanna taylor protests. Feeling the anger and hatred from both sides, police wanting to bash heads, protestors wanting justice. Both sides clashing was just so much. Maybe it was just me being overstimulated but what I felt that day, I never want to experience ever again. That level of anger... Sorry for the rant, I cant wait to see more of this game, love the channel.

I think Nathan's dad gave Nathan a drug to give him time travel powers. That's why Nathan has headaches, nosebleeds and yells 'everyone will die'. Why didn't Max keep in contact when she was in Seattle? I think Max was most of the time in the Seattle hospital with headaches and nosebleeds. Her time travel powers were growing without manifesting. Chloe had a lot on her mind so Max did not want to make her more sad

“Why can’t we date them both” I know why isn’t polygamy an option!?
@TherealRNOwwfpooh Жыл бұрын
Well, for one, most of the civilized world isn't polygamous. Secondly, Steph is a lesbian, so throwing a man into things might not bode well if she'd rather have Alex for herself alone. Thirdly, although Ryan is a tree cop himbo, I don't think he's been exposed to any kind of relationships that aren't monogamous & are for more than 2 people, so a threesome might put him off, even though a good amount of guys find lesbianism hot.

Also I think people have different orientations or dispositions towards affective/emotional/evaluative stimuli. Like some people are really good at coming to really refined or nuanced judgements about how they feel about a particular thing, but then conversely tend to be pretty tuned out to like external social harmony or etiquette. Other people are really attuned to their atmosphere or surroundings and are just sort of naturally sensitive to stimuli or disharmony there, while internally their feelings are a lot more ambiguous. It's not exactly considered 'legitimate' science any more but Jung's notion of the cognitive functions, in this case introverted feeling and extraverted feeling respectively, get at this sort of distinction. Both actually tend to be pretty good at 'empathy', though. The former maybe have to be prompted to do it, but they sort of excel at the whole 'putting yourself in another's shoes' thing (since they're so attuned to their own subjective POV where feelings are concerned), while I think the latter it's just a lot more of an immediate thing and they feel more compelled or a greater necessity to 'do something about it', even if it's sort of effectively managing or soothing the disharmony without necessarily feeling like they need to have any particularly deep or nuanced understanding of it. I'm a little bit more of the latter type. In mbti or whatever I'd probably be typed as an INFJ, who are supposed to have more of an external focus where that is concerned. My (only recently diagnosed) ADHD probably plays a role, too. Like the combination of executive dysfunction or affective dysregulation, along with your attention being more 'open' to momentary stimuli or you having less control over what your attention decides to zero in on, seems to have the effect of making ADHDers pick up on like virtually every social microexpression or to have really fine emotional radars. I was actually pretty popular for most of my life, in part b/c the aforementioned extraverted feeling/social harmonization thing, and ADHD tending to make the individuals that have it more of the 'people pleasing' type (b/c the aforementioned emotional radar sort of gets directed towards quickly resolving every emergent crisis from your own neurodiversity/social misunderstanding or whatever), and I def still developed some avoidant personality disorder/social phobia ish traits, just from not being able to navigate social interactions with complete perfection lol (or picking up like small or subtle cues of social rejection over a lifetime, probably due to a number of personal or temperamental idiosyncrasies, of which ADHD was only one). Most of my life was like super sheltered, but that was apparently enough for me to make a somewhat informed choice to at least withdraw from like most casual social interactions, feeling like it generally just isn't worth it lol. I wouldn't call myself an 'empath', though. Not only for the aforementioned cringe reason, it also just seems sort of appropriative or greedy. Like everyone has empathy and a complex/nuanced inner life, Susan. Maybe there's some validity to the 'highly sensitive person' (HSP) notion though. I don't really know myself, but ime the aforementioned stuff is more like you're just sort of fly paper for emotional baggage (including ones own, or one's own anxious thoughts mulled over across a lifetime etc) and processing that sort of stuff with seemingly great frequency or regularity in a way that just sort of sweeps you up or takes you along for the ride is like tiring and often disruptive of plans and stuff and seemingly requires more finesse and self-knowledge than the apparent 'norm' to effectively manage lol.

That part in the middle where you define Empaths. I feel like they could be described as both. I have met people who do have like a higher sort of antenna to pick up on energy. I met a stranger who straight up knew everything about me & my mom issues & there's no way she could have picked up on that just by looking at me. So I really didn't appreciate the not just scoffing but the straight up slamming it that you gave it. Like I'm not religious but I wouldn't straight up insult someone else's beliefs & I feel like this falls under that sort of line. Because I have met people who can pick up on a lot. I myself have gotten a Chakra balancing where with my eyes closed & relaxed breathing have actually physically felt energy. I personally would never call myself an Empath even though I have grown up with trauma. But you calling what other people could potentially believe as Cringe was kinda mean.
