When your spouse’s family does not like you, there are several things you can do about it. Everyone agrees that your husband is in the middle. He can side with you & choose not to attend family gatherings, if you are not included. This is a type of ultimatum. His family may invite you & tolerate you, but never accept you. I see this as a waste of your time. Plus being around such people is potentially damaging to your mental health. Your husband can side with his family & exclude you from their gatherings, as happened in this story. His loyalty is to his extended family & not to you. You can divorce him & never see any of his family again. Personally, I would NOT want to force my husband to choose between me & his family. Whatever the cause of the conflict, I would encourage my husband to maintain contact with his family. He loves them. Why would I interfere in those relationships? Accept the fact that your husband does NOT have the power to make his family like you. It is their loss.
