Great show guys. Regarding your point on building codes and building safety; I am a contractor of 35 years, 18 of which he is in the state of Vermont in the United States. Other than the municipalities of Burlington, Vermont, there is no building code, no inspections and no enforcement in the state of Vermont. I’ve worked for many contractors there, and I can tell you, that it is the personal integrity of all of us has builders That sets the standard in Vermont. I’ve been a carpenter in Minnesota, Washington, Portland, Oregon, New Mexico in three different places and Denver and I have not seen a better quality and integrity of building, ethics, and craftsmanship that I did in Vermont where there was no one doing inspections! Chill on that for a while .
@doctorgonzo5358

That's entirely anecdotal and ignores all of the issues that created. This is well documented. Also, perhaps you consider WHY Burlington is an exception.
@doctorgonzo5358

One example of poor construction standards in Vermont can be traced to the early 2000s, particularly in the context of shoddy building practices related to energy efficiency and moisture control. In one well-known case, a housing development near Burlington experienced widespread issues with mold due to improper ventilation and insulation. The homes in this development were built quickly during a housing boom, and many corners were cut to keep costs down and speed up construction. However, the poor workmanship led to severe moisture problems, causing rot and mold growth, which posed health risks to homeowners. Several lawsuits followed as homeowners sought compensation for the expensive repairs needed to address these issues. Another example involved faulty construction practices related to structural integrity. Some contractors used substandard materials or improper techniques when building homes, resulting in problems like foundation cracking or roof leaks. In some cases, homeowners discovered these issues only after moving in, and they were left to bear the burden of repairs. Several cases in southern Vermont involved homes that did not meet local building codes, which led to disputes between builders and buyers. In response to these incidents, Vermont has made efforts to strengthen its regulatory oversight, with a particular focus on enforcing building codes and improving contractor licensing standards. The state has also increased awareness around the importance of energy-efficient building practices, in part to address concerns about insulation, ventilation, and moisture control in new homes. These issues highlighted the need for better construction standards, consumer protection laws, and more rigorous inspections to prevent similar problems in the future.

Great what you are doing for Bedford! Let’s keep up the education. It’s so important we all play our part in advocating for Bitcoin. I’m a BTC maxi although as a big advocate for individual freedoms I also hold Filecoin which I don’t in any way see as an alt to BTC, but rather a utility token which holds real promise with a project that is making money and scaling fast. Bitcoin for decentralised money. Filecoin for decentralised data storage. Both hugely important for humanity.

Robert - if you create a society where the only disincentive to building with proper safety is the threat of litigation, builders won't build to the ideally safe levels. They will do a cost-benefit analysis and figure out exactly how cheap they can build the building so that the extra profits just barely outweigh the likely losses associated with future litigation. That's basic finance. And I'm just a regular citizen, how can I opt out of a society with unsafe buildings if I don't know they're unsafe? By the time I know they're unsafe, I'll be dead in the rubble. Proper regulation like building codes solve the problem of information asymmetry between business entities and their customers. Alright, now everyone can call me a statist cuck. Great episode, Peter and Robert! Looking forward to more.
@leemate
@leemate 10 ай бұрын
I was thinking about this too. But I wonder if the idea is that a builder could fuck up once, and not only is there a litigation issue, but their reputation is forever tarnished, never to be hired to build a building ever again. Then other builders with fight to have the best reputation and least (ideally zero) incidents in their X number of years in the market. Once you’re in a situation where builders are fiercely competing for a large share of the market by building at exceptional quality and creating that stellar reputation, I can then see how the issue resolves itself without the state having to make the rules. It seems to me the issue is, it doesn’t start out that way, so how many accidents and potential deaths would have to happen before it got to that kind of incentive structure. It’s the kind of thing that I think would work phenomenally if you could fast-forward 5 years in time and all the lessons had already been learned from the past mistakes. But if we wanted to start this method tomorrow, we’d all be taking huge risks on our buildings until the market matured and builders were operating based on their incentive to be the builder who builds the safest buildings and refusing to take any risks and destroying their reputation etc. Not sure if I’m making sense but hopefully it does! In conclusion, I think it works but not for the first few years until the market incentives mature, but then that potentially means lots of accidents and deaths need to happen to get there, which isn’t great either 🤷🏻‍♂️ tough one…

@thechett3699 You make a lot of sense with your points. Same applies to all road and travel infrastructure (bridges, planes, airports, eventually public space travel and FSD). The one given - regardless where anyone fits on the left/right spectrum, is greed. Humans will create ways to supplement their drive toward "more for me" , which doesn't necessarily bode well for quality/safe building. Also, litigation is a tool for those who can afford it. Reliance solely on that, limits access to fairness to only a certain sector of society. And that's providing the courts are fair themselves (not corrupt).

Just a suggestion about the building codes I think we all strive for the same thing. We want good standards and people to by those standards. Perhaps, instead of leaving it in the hands of government, you left it in the hands of an insurance company that the insurance company charge a fee to come out inspect Make sure it’s done so they don’t have to pay out anything. It would be done far more efficiently than the state.

this is one of my fav podcasts and a great guest, but here are some criticism: Peter, we are not here for your views and opinions, they are not that great nor interesting. The most important person at the table is your guest, not you. It is good that you push back sometimes if it means that we can go deeper into what your guests thinks. Im not interested listening to you declaring your views to every guest you have. We heard most of them 50 times already and it takes away opportunity to learn more about the great guests you have on, and quite frankly it all starts to get repetitive listing to your views about how the government should get smaller ever year (just one of many examples). that is my advice, thanks for a great podcast!

Some taxes are completely optional, some are an exice tax for the use of federal reserve notes. See 26 US Code subsection 7806 (b) where its recorded that tax code is NOT LAW. See case laws Self v. Rhay and Rodriques v. Ray Donovan where its recorded that human/crdators (sovereign creators of government) are not subject to codes, rules, regulations etc. These are documents written by the state, its a settled matter already, the state has made their claims, its up to us to hold them accountable to those claims. Theres also some specifics on how to address the state. Conditional acceptance is a technique that avoids dispute by saying, ill accept your claim so long as you can verify I am liable to it. Also, speaking in questions is a way to avoid making cliams that you are then liable to. Thanks again gents

Would love to see his list of specific things that he thinks the government does well and also define what he means by does well. But then put it up against all the things he things they don’t do well? Personally I think people think and are getting pushed into this thinking of an either / or way of doing things and that to me leads to this globalism way of thinking that bigger is better and that’s just been proven to eventually become bloody and also has a much higher chance of the idea that self destruction of the entire system is better then giving into what’s being proposed. Which is basically a one world government of course the one world government will have arms to keep control and stay in power of it all but it just means more and bigger government in governance of the population as a whole. So the return to smaller and localized is something I would agree is a better way of gaining a more fair balance between as many people as possible. The thing that will always seem to get in the way of this from actually happening will be the morals of society

6:48 - Robert, you're literally giving a Marxist interpretation of history here. The idea that the superstructure emerges from the base - in other words, culture emerges from the material conditions of a society as a way of justifying the position of the powerful. Your argument about the pharoah in Egypt is another version of Marx's argument about religion being the 'opiate of the masses'. This is essentially a materialistic view of history, a Marxist view of history, which doesn't allow for the power of ideas, brought by inspired individuals, to change the course of history. Is it not possible that in Ancient Egypt, there was a time when the priest class actually were inspired initiates who knew how to order society wisely? (See Graham Hancock's lectures, for example). This is of course now not an appropriate form for our society, the mysteries have been handed over to us and we must grow towards being free and responsible individuals.

It sucks that Robert has always seemed like such a cool dude on interviews etc yet in person he came off as pretentious, smug and look down on the common man.

I've certainly never heard this from people who said they met him in person.

Robert Breedlove flirts with a weird form of social darwinism. NOTE that I did NOT say that he is a social darwinist. Please read that last sentence again. I am NOT NOT NOT calling Robert Breedlove a social darwinist or a eugenicist. But I can't get his interview with James from InvestAnswers out of my head where he goes on and on about how the right kinds of people (the smart kind) will buy Bitcoin, and if you are not smart enough for it you'll be devolved downward in the population. It's really a little bit gross. You all may now proceed to willfully misunderstand what I've said and completely oversimplify and mischaracterize it.

@@MrObnoxiousPod how can ya be a Bitcoiner and a sheeple at the same time? Peters always been a tow the line type of guy though!! Govts love them! 2020 cemented that for us!! He towed the line big time then!! Let's hope that decision doesn't come back and bite him on his arse!! It's also astonishing how he gets the Saylors, the Booths and Robert Breedloves on this show? Amazing PR team I reckon!! I honestly can't think of any other reason for it. I very rarely comment, on anything! Not subscribed either, so don't freak out!! But every now and again this podcast comes up on my feed. I always say, I love BTC, let's give this fella another go!! But everytime, ten minutes in, I'm like ....this Peter guys still a knob head!! Just my opinion, but tosser always comes to mind!!
