Your channel is an absolute goldmine for knowledge and wisdom -- thanks so much for sharing! Time to binge the videos. I would love a reading list/video about the books that had the biggest influence on you . Best wishes from a young law student.

Thanks Em and Lloyd for being so vulnerable so that we don't have to make these mistakes. An honorable mention could be Em not quitting earlier. When I watched Em's quitting video, my biggest takeaway is that we should not let lifestyle inflation get to us and only spend less than what we make. Before I watched this mistakes in 20s video, for a split second, I thought that one of the mistakes may be you and Lloyd were gonna have a kid. But that won't be a mistake because your kid will be the smartest and prettiest child in the world. Also, I don't think any of your videos are cringey at all! You don't have to be Torres Pit.

Thanks Aidan, and agreed re quitting! Though I also think since things happen for a reason, it may have been just the right time for me ☺️ - Em

Oh, yes I definitely agree with your talking points within the video. Especially when it comes to taking breaks. It's only now that I am starting to realize that breaks are important and they are necessary for both good mental and physical health. I also agree with being perfect in what I do with regards to work. As a Data Scientist working in government I always strive to make sure that things are done correctly, whether I was writing new code for a program, or whether I was doing research, I had to make sure it was done properly , which resulted in me being burned out. I also went through this perfectionism while I was an undergrad and graduate student at university. I just had to make sure that my notes were perfect and in order, because at that time and as a student, I thought that was the best way to study. I'm still a work in progress when it comes to changing these habits. As always great video!!!

For sure - it's always tricky trying to find the balance between being conscientious and pushing oneself too hard, and between being meticulous and being too much of a perfectionist... we're definitely still a work in progress when it comes to this too, but definitely something we're conscious of and working on continuously. Thank you so much for watching, and for leaving such a thoughtful comment!

I am a Enghlish learner, today I open up your video and love it, I appreciate your video and cannot helping to agree your view any more. it is very important to someone to foucs himself more than others, in fact nobody care about what you do and what you are, you just yourself ,you can do what you want others acutally just such as NPC like computergame. I might draw up your world whatever other think about it;

It appears that many corporate jobs in the modern age such as finance (investment banking & PE), accounting (big4), law all have in common of overworking their employees. I have seen many posts, videos and heard anecdotes of people quitting from all 3 sectors I mentioned. This is truly something revolutionary - I don't think people used to quit like this in waves in the past years/decades. Firms need to care more about their employees and work life balance.

Hi Em and Loyd. I am a manager in clinical trials industry for drug development. I have enjoyed your videos from last year and at the biggest struggles of my professional/personal lives your video has been a great encouragement to not to give up on yourself! Although I cannot really relate to the technical aspects of law jobs, but the daily routines are definitely identical e.g. work load, working 24/7 etc. I made my decision last week to quit and take a rest. Recharge and rethink. I would like to thank you for making these videos and let people know that they’re not alone at their darkest times of their career life. So thank you and I’ll continue be a subscriber. ❤

Right after he discovered your video, he suddenly came to realization of how important taking break is 🙄 any tips you can share on how you two stay in love despite the long working hours and lack of holidays

Excellent video. I think those 4 points are linked. The real-world problem is often open-ended. When to stop and when not to take it personally are usually because the things are not clearly showing what is right or wrong. Focusing on your own interest and professionals are somewhat good ways to experience the life journey.

What an eye opening video. I made the same mistakes too in the past and I’m still working on some things nowadays. I can totally relate to trying to make my notes perfect before I started studying. I didn’t even realize that those actions were attributed to me being a perfectionist. Looking back, I can’t believe how much time I wasted loll. Keep up these awesome videos! 😍

My biggest mistake in my 20's was to be in the wrong country. Overworked and have barely anything to show for it other than being worn out. The same in a 1st world country is worthwhile.. I'm pretty sure you'll look back on your hard work in your 20's and appreciate it.
@karinazhuang38762 жыл бұрын
The first mistake really corresponds with me. I realized that I burn out very very quickly and it has nothing to do with the job but with how I do the job. I kept changing jobs very often bc I thought the problem is the job itself. I think I still don't know how to prevent the burn out. It is the pressure I put on my self and the imagined expectations of others.

Hello Em and Lloyd,
