Make a habit to learn 2words of tagalog everyday and after 1month you can imagine if you do this you learn 60words of tagalog right?

Get an index card, write down the phrases and the words you'd like to express daily and try to memorize them, apply them in every situation. Slowly but surely, you'll learn the language. Good luck and have fun. Enjoy your study and stay in the Philippines.

During our elemtary years, When we were studying English in class we had what we call “English Campaign”. Do that during your breaks, Tagalog lng. Let your friends correct you when you make a mistake. Language must be practiced. Even for only an hour per day.

Filipinos knows how to speak English especially UP students and teachers. Don't say you regret studying here because of our language . It's only in the beginning you hardly speak Tagalog , but you must adjust and learn Tagalog through your friends or using the English and Tagalog Dictionary . I learned the Spanish language during my high school and College days in the Philippines, now, I learned that it was removed from curriculum. Those days, you cannot graduate without taking Spanish language. I don’t have regrets, I used it here and abroad the Spanish language.

Animo, don't worry most foreign students experienced thesame on their firt year in school but little by littlle you go will far. Just don't be shy to speak out what you know even if you think that its wrong,the person you are speaking to will surely correct you and you will learn the right word or sentences. I understand how you feel. I am a Filipino working in a school abroad and I also could not speak the language of my host country. Not many people in my host country can speak English. But in your case, most Filipinos can understand English so if there was a class or small group discussion in class and you didn't understand because your groupmates spoke Tagalog, just let them know. Ask what they just discussed and I'm sure someone in class will gladly translate for your or speak English to you.

I learned ENGLISH fluently in my Elementary School, SAINT AUGUSTINE SCHOOL in IBA, Zambales province and when I came to the United States everyone was surprised how easy for me to communicate in English. So, foreign students ... I am pretty sure that our filipino university students are fluent in english, accent maybe evident but it still easy to understand. English is our second language.

Watch teledrama and try to sing tagalog songs! It’s the best mode of learning languages. That’s what I did in Japan. It doesn’t help me only to learn the language but also teaches me how to read and write their calligraphy.

It’s not called regret studying in the Philippines. You could bring this concern to the teachers so they are able to tell everyone in the class to be aware that there is a foreign student learning with them and if they communicate in English, they make the foreign students more welcome in the class. Just speak up!

Sooner you will learn. I suggest you to buy English Tagalog Dictionary at least you can understand the basic language like kumusta ka or How are you. Magkano means how much. So learning the basic language is very important. Hope you have a nice and happy stay in our country.

We communicate mainly in our own language which is Filipino.. we don't practice English in our daily lives that's why not everyone is fluent.. most people can speak broken English and can hold a conversation if you are patient enough.

you will learn Tagalog, if you are friendly, even if you buy something for a sidewak vendor, when you ask something, they will teach you the correct way. Ex. there a food station or carenderia where you like the food & coming back & ordering . you start by friendly respect,polite , courteous, asking the name of the food, when the vendor see you daily eating their food & said to them its a good taste to you. that the time, you can ask words yo need to ask even, you make a friendly gesture o them. bec, they seen you more than once. Too early to regret, Filipino are happy people(MASAYAHIN) & willing to help(HANDANG TUMULONG) mga Filipino ,even the grey hair/old people or, children, if you ask politely to them.

Talk to them in English in order to teach them in speaking in English too. Anyway English is the medium of instruction. The only way to learn how to speak a language is if you try to talk to the people.

you can speak easily speak or talking in Tagalog by watching telenovelas or talking with the locals everyday ...dont use textbooks cuz its old language ...youve to learn the modern slang . you start with Tag Lish , everyday make a note that you need to know like you're in Bus station or Supermarket or restaurant . I did that in Spanish in LA CA ....everyday ive 3 sentences . good luck ...do it now cause once you're 30 it's hard to learn the language

The medium of instruction in PH school is English ALL PH documents are in English & the PH CONSTITUTION is in English not tagalog therefore English is suppose to be your language not tagalog I wonder why most Filipinos are far from being fluent in English

Most Filipinos understand English very well but have an inferiority complex when it comes to speaking it or holding a conversation but make no mistake, they understand you. Don't let this stop you from speaking in English. Now as for Tagalog, bear in mind that it is basically syllable-based so you can start from there. Ah-Eh-Eeh-Oh-Ooh, Bah-Beh-Bee-Boh-Boo, Kah-Keh-Kee-Koh-Koo (A,E,I,O,U - Ba,Be.Bi,Bo,Bu - Ka, Ke, Ki, Ko, Ku, etc)
