Life is short. We've all heard this before, but my time working in the cigar world has shown me that this is the absolute truth. The older you get, the faster time seems to fly. One of the best things about cigars is that they help us appreciate the little moments of joy that live has to offer. In this video, I'll share the total perspective that I've learned about life from working in cigars. If I could make just one piece of content that you'll always remember, I hope this is it.

I am 71, have traveled the world, had several careers, made and lost fortunes and am sitting here immensely enjoying all your videos. I smoke about five a day. I’m in good shape. Bike nearly everyday and literally have few to no pains I’m dealing with. Life is good and you make it better. Keep it up young man.

I don't have a local cigar lounge to me. The man I kinda adopted as my father & would smoke 3-5 cigars with each week sat or sun as he lived an hour away now live 1,200 miles away. So I find most of my cigars are smoked alone or with the dogs I watch as pet care is my business. I often watch your vids & pretend I am there with you guys & maybe once my bride decides to quit her job I will get another RV & stop by to see if its better on KZbin or real life. Thanks for all the vids. Have a Great Day Patrick

Tim, your thoughts beautifully echo Psalm 90: "Lord, teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom." Grateful for C. H. Spurgeon, the Prince of Preachers [London, 19th century] and a cigar aficionado. Cigars always seem to lead to thinking and conversations about life and, oftentimes, its tragic brevity. The cigar experience has enabled me to introduce countless fellow cigar enthusiasts to the One who is the Resurrection and the Life.

At age 70, Ive been blessed with pretty good health, Cigars and Pipes are my solace, a time of meditation, reflection and great conversation. I have a cigar with a guy who is 86 and we meet once a week and he still has stories that amaze me. We have a bond with cigars, sip coffee and just BS. This is a hi light of my week. Don't ever think you're too smart or too old to learn something new and the best way to do that is have a cigar and relax.

Hey Tim, I'm one those "old men" (77) you spoke of here in this episode😃 In addition to the changes we all see as we age, one of worst things we experience is seeing old friends and family members pass away before you, many times they are younger than you! On a brighter note, I just built an "in house" lounge in my home and nothing beats a good cigar and a scotch in my "cave" as my wife calls it. Thanks for all of the reviews of cigars and humidors, etc. - its definitely increases the enjoyment of trying new smokes. Congrats on reaching 200k subscribers - you earned it!!😃 I plan to visit Phoenix next winter and will stop by and say Hi.

I just had a major neck surgery so haven't smoked a cigar since May , because I stopped a month before surgery. Wow! You absolutely nailed it! My dad and I would try to go to our local cigar lounge twice a week but Covid hit and changed everything. He started to get better but unfortunately he passed away on July 10th of this year at almost 83 years old. He would smoke or just hold his pipe and would tell so many wonderful stories. As his health declined I heard those same stories many times over but I would give anything to hear those old stories again. The first time I went back to the lounge I sat in my usual chair and he would normally be in his wheelchair right next to me. Was really tough but everyone treats us like family and that made me feel better. I would give anything to go back in time but as you mentioned life is short and we are definitely not promised tomorrow. He knew I always wanted to get into the cigar industry and praying my interview goes well tomorrow. If it all works out I will have my foot in the door. Enjoy life and embrace it! Thanks for your wonderful videos and I hope to make it out to Phoenix one day. My grandparents are buried out there and I would love to stop by to visit the shop to see where all the magic happens!

I have had the great luxury of surrounding myself with gentlemen from 1-2 generations older than me for the last 20 years with breakfast most Saturday mornings at my local club. I am now 65 and they are in their 80’s. They still talk to me like I’m a kid and I find it incredibly endearing. They all can’t make it every week but we seem to still keep in touch and care for each other dearly. The wisdom imparted is like none other. This is a very diverse group with all different political leanings. We somehow are still able to solve all the problems of the world and enjoy a great breakfast. Of course by the time we walk out, our solutions are quickly forgotten. Unfortunately we are not able to smoke cigars there but I’m sure this would be a great group to enjoy that last smoke with. Thanks to Cigars Daily for making me appreciate my Saturday morning ritual even more.

Tim, This video absolutely leveled me when I least expected to be. Forget cigars altogether; it is evident your words have been informed through your interactions with wise, old men. Your message is one that is timely for many, and speaks to what I believe is one of American culture’s greatest failures- respect for the elderly. In other countries/cultures, the only way to gain status and a voice is with age. Meanwhile, teenagers in the US are being led to believe (via social media and the fallout of it) that they can skip right to the front of the line in all they (think they) want and aspire to become. I’m barely older than you, and my kids are in high school. I never shield them from my hobbies (e.g., cigars, homebrewing) and my motivations or intentions with them. We might not have all of the wisdom of our elders, but relaying some of that wisdom down to our kids is more valuable than driver’s ed or volunteer hours. My boys get it, and so many of their peers don’t. Thanks for this video. I hope those who watch it reflect upon their relationships with elders, and their part in offering sage wisdom to the younger ones in their lives. Cheers.

I was essentially adopted by an older man at the age of 12 while his son was off serving in Iraq. He ended up being my father, grandfather, mentor, and best friend. My road dog. I sadly lost him a couple years back as an adult and held his hand in the hospital as he took his last breath. I was the one who had to make the call to take him off support and let him go as he had told me he would want in that situation. Words can’t express the anguish and sadness that came with making that decision. I never truly understood loss and grief until that day. I am extremely fortunate I had someone to guide me and help me grow into the person I am today. I’m not even halfway to the later years of my life but I am thankful for that person who gave me a shot at life through guidance.

To the family of the departed I send my prayers. First off, I’m sorry for the goofiness on cigars daily live, I know when I’m able to be live with y’all I’m usually a turd or asking for black label trading co cigars. The truth is that I’ve struggled with depression all of my adult life into as far back as I can remember. A few years ago I was on anti anxiety meds, heart meds, and drinking way more than one should. with all that I was also doing other highly unhealthy things to try and find something close to peace. Then I came across cigars daily and my world changed, I’m glad to say that now I’m no longer on any harsh meds, I’m not drinking to excess, and to make things better I’m actually on a weight loss journey of my own now. Tim I know it sounds cheesy but cigars daily and this wonderful hobby we all get to share quite literally saved my life, not just the actual cigars but the community as well. There you go, that’s far too much information but I thought you should know.

That was a very well done video. Everyone knows a least one older person who fits that description and has had an impact on their life. I'm grateful for a lot of things. One of the things I'm grateful for is that Tim helped us name the FatBoy!

I'm thankful that I get to share a cigar with my father on the weekends. We're both beginners at it so every time we light up it's usually one we haven't had before which is a nice experience. So far we haven't found one that's our absolute favorite for a regular smoke, but I really like the Padron 1964 that we both had for his last birthday earlier this month. Now if only I can find something half that price or maybe even cheaper that I enjoy as much, because $20 is a lot of money for only an hour's worth of enjoyment.

I'm going through a break-up, and even though we are still friends, it is still tough to let go. Thanks for the reminder to be grateful for what we have!

I haven’t watched any of your videos in about a year since I had my daughter & then I look you up and find this gem. Life’s great jokes, I’m thankful for always staying active and having moments like enjoying a cigar. I have to thank my girlfriend who understands I need alone time and she gives me that. I also wanna say don’t stop being active! Workout as maintenance not as competition! Be well brothers!

I had the realization the other day... My mother has always been a staple in my life. So has my father. They are now both getting in to their late 60s and just the other day, my mother fell. My brother called me and told me that she fell and had to go to the hospital. Granted, she fell because she tripped over something while walking backwards, but she hit her head. Shes ok. But still... it made me realize, they're getting older and not younger. The tables are starting to flip. I've been in law enforcement for 7 short years, going on 8. I've seen a lot of things that I could never imagine seeing, but getting the phone call from my brother about my mom, shook me. It was at that moment, I realized, Life is short. It's too short to be fighting over politics, minor details and opinions. It was a moment that I thought to myself the sad reality that one day will happen to me too... I realized my parents are getting older. and they are no longer taking care of us (the kids) but we, the kids, are now beginning to take care of them. It was a humbling, scary, sad and crazy feeling wrapped all in one. I never thought I would be thinking of the day, that I would be helping my parents out, after all the years that they helped me. It also made me realize that one day... my kids will be taking care of me and my wife as we get older. With that said, I came to realize that I am thankful for my family. I have a good relationship with my brother, sister, parents, my wife and kids. We are all close. There's a lot of uncertainties in life, but thankfully for me, my family is not one of them. I have always told people, that others may use and abuse you, but most of the time, family will always be there. We can learn from the old and give to the new. I'm also thankful for this community and hobby. I use cigars as my "out." It's my way of disconnecting and reconnecting and decompressing from my feelings. It gives me time to think, time to reflect and time to come to terms with things. It helps me relax and connect with other people. I say all this as I'm sitting here smoking on a AJF New World Cameroon. Working on the night shift life, staying up to work tomorrow night.

Wonderful video! I’m most thankful that I get to spend my life with the love of my life. She has helped me become a much better version of myself than I ever could have hoped for. And nothing beats lighting up a cigar to be thankful and remind myself of how good life turned out. Keep up the good work! 🔥

As a gay 36 year old cigar smoker … my community is even smaller. Several of my friends are in their 60s, a couple of them with crippling medical conditions and I’m unsure how long I’ll have them for. As someone raised by a single mother with no father figure, these men have been some of the most influential in my adult life. If you think ageism issues are bad in general, a lot of gay men will write you off as ‘gay’ dead once you hit 30s. It’s really, really sad. My 30s have been the best years of my life and I look forward to the potential future relationships I can build with other young gay men, though finding those interested in cigars have proved difficult. I’m grateful for each friendship I’ve made, no matter if they were fleeting or life long. We all carry bits and pieces of everyone we meet with us.

Love this, Tim! You should write a book about all the stories and advice you’ve heard around older folks while smoking premium cigars. Keep up the positive content!

Tim, I am new to cigars and found cigars daily and have become an avid follower. Thanks for introducing me to the community. I would be an avid customer but I live in Utah, but will make the sojourn to Phoenix one day. I just wanted to say thanks for the knowledge and community.

Tim, fantastic video and tribute. One thing I am thankful for is the cigar community and how welcoming and supportive it is. It’s rather unexplainable how amazing it is, you just have to experience it!

Glad you made this video, it's an important thing to consider and to keep in the back of your mind. I'm grateful for my stepdad, who introduced me to cigars and for the times we've bonded together smoking them. Grateful as well for my pastor who is a cigar smoker as well and for the time that we've spent together discussing theology and the Lord while enjoying our "burnt offerings" haha

Tim, thanks for this. I had a very good friend names Jim. He was in his 80’s when he passed. A big part of our friendship was getting together two or three days a month. We’d sit on his back patio and smoke a fine cigar. I’d usually cook us up a hot dog and he would pass on knowledge to me. I miss him and our chats. This video brought those good memories back.
