My dog Tyson he’s 3 now but I remember the puppy days like it was yesterday 🥺 I had this dog TRAINED. Like whipped 😂 he’s my ESA dog and my little private Christian college took MONTHS to approve him to be on campus. So he stayed at home with my parents for 2 months. When he finally was able to move into my dorm with me he was a totally different dog. All the training gone. And we’re still working back to where he was. 🥺😭 my months of hard work and socialization gone. He’s still a really good dog just has some bad habits we need to break.

Was feeling nostalgic, my Aussie turned one back in May and have been watching some puppy videos, and stumbled across yours! I am not going to lie, the first two - four months (so ages 2-6 months) were extremely difficult with my little girl. In particular, separation anxiety, potty training, and interacting with people. The first two were slowly getting better, but the last... a boy in the neighborhood chased her and yelled at her while she was going to the bathroom... and she still hasn't bounced back. It was during her fear phase of all times!! :( She still is hesitant with people (sometimes barking), but she is the sweetest thing. She gets better every day! The stubborn thing, definitely just be persistent. She's testing boundaries and looking for loopholes. It will die down! Stand your ground and be consistent. Don't be afraid to go back to individualized training with certain skills (we definitely had to be stern with sit) We tried to take her on some sort of adventure 2-3 times a week at least (dog park, hiking, petco, etc) and that helped with her energy and socialization. She loved (and still loves) learning tricks and having jobs. Aussies are so amazing and it looks like you're being such good dog mom!

Im getting an aussie in September, already picked her and everything and im so happy. I have a question How often do you give her a shower? How often do you brush her teeth? Does she let you?
@khayenq3 жыл бұрын
Hi!! You can bathe your aussie when they need it (ex: when they smell bad or are dirty), if you want to be frequent, possibly once every 2 months. You must brush your dog's teeth as much as you brush yours; it's not common for people to talk about this but dog's teeth turn bad as they age and brushing helps slow it (of course teeth cleaning to the vet can be every 6 months to a year). Some dog owners don't brush their dog's teeth and that is fine but you must get their teeth cleaned every six months. Every dog is different and being comfortable to teeth brushing depends on how you train them (i reccomend watching how to brush your dog's teeth and make them allow you) hope this helps~
@mariaperez-bg1xq3 жыл бұрын
@@khayenq thank you so much☺️☺️☺️
@MyDriftingDesk3 жыл бұрын
you can always ask your vet, but puppies shouldn't be bathed OFTEN, but definitely can be if they get really dirty. we did Freya like every 2-3 weeks as a little pup because she got dirty lol. and as a puppy we didn't do anything to brush her teeth because those ones fall out eventually, but once they get their adult teeth you should brush them daily! There are "treats" out there that help with that, or toys that help clean teeth, and even some foods they can eat like carrots!
@alexisd81903 жыл бұрын
Most dogs don't need bathing often as it washes out natural oils in their fur/skin. Daily grooming to prevent matts and to desensitize them to being touched all over. Only bathe when muddy (if they don't clean themselves off) or once every few months if they don't smell.

work on building your relationship with her 💗 Freya is definitely that way with Griffin more because there's not as strong of a bond between them two, but that's something I focused on a lot when she was a PUPPY so that she would "respect" me and "look to me for guidance and help" in new situations and when she's scared, etc. but it takes time for sure and it's not linear!!!

xylitol is what dogs can't have and most peanut butters don't have it in there :) you can google which ones do or of course look on the back of the ingredients to find out! But I would agree, that one with the least amount of added sugars, etc. is better for dogs.

I love watching your videos with your beautiful Aussie, u look great together 🧡 But I have two questions, and maybe it's because I'm a Swede and therefore haven't seen anyone doing it or not done it myself with my dogs? But I genuinely wonder why she is (or was) sleeping in a cage and why she used to go potty on the "litter box" thing on your balcony and not outside? 🤗 Hope everything goes well with her 🥰
@MyDriftingDesk2 жыл бұрын
when dogs are puppies and unvaccinated, they shouldn't be going anywhere that other dogs have been (so that includes outside to potty at our apartment because everyone has dogs) so we got her the porch potty so she could go there, still outside, and mimic grass so the transition to grass was easier when that time came, but also because I didn't want to have her use pee pads INSIDE because I didn't want going potty inside (on anything) to even be an option. I think that's better for potty training and it worked amazingly for us! ❤️ as far as the crate goes, it's a way to keep her safe when we can't keep an eye on her. she could get into food, chemicals, something dangerous, hurt herself, and of course tear up the house, potty inside etc. if we aren't home and watching her and so whenever we can't watch her, she is in there for her own safety ❤️

I’m so late but have you been using the rope leash you showed in your puppy haul? Or are you waiting till she’s older?
@MyDriftingDesk3 жыл бұрын
we've used it a couple of times here and there, but yes! Planning on using it when she's a bit older :) It's such a tough and good lead!

Wow!! She is a beauty - you are training her amazingly well. Do you have tricks for potty training?
@MyDriftingDesk3 жыл бұрын
thank you SO much! 💕 what really helped us with potty training her was bell training her, and when she was 8 weeks and tiny we took her out every hour on the hour to really give her no chance of even pottying inside! she got trained pretty quickly!

What are the reasons that you don’t feed your Aussie blue buffalo I didn’t hear you mention it in the video?
@MyDriftingDesk2 жыл бұрын
I would watch the previous pupdate and read through those comments!! everyone else chimed in on why they don't feed it either ❤️

How long did it take for you to be able to sleep in a seperate room than Freya? My Aussie is 12 weeks old. We got him at 10 weeks old and I still bring him upstairs along with his crate and playpen every night in my room. It's getting tiring lol
@MyDriftingDesk10 ай бұрын
we started separate. It was hard and it was a long first few nights but I found it easier to start however I wanted it to end rather than training it a certain way then changing it and having to re-train the new normal. so she never slept in her crate in the same room. Always in the same spot.

How long did it take you to potty train the dog for her to go to the door so you know she got to go?
@MyDriftingDesk3 жыл бұрын
It took her about a week to understand what the bells MEANT, but she would only ring them when I asked her "Let's Go Potty" like a command. it took about 2 maybe 3 for me to trust that she would ring them on her own to let us know! ❤️

How did you phase out lures with spin to a signal? Sparta does it with the lure but not hand signal
@MyDriftingDesk3 жыл бұрын
over time I would raise my hand more and more away from her nose as a lure and after a while I was able to do big circles with my hand as a lure above her head, and then further up, and then we slowly moved to tinier circles etc. until she could do it with a little finger spin as the signal instead of the lure!

Is there still a divider in her crate?
@MyDriftingDesk3 жыл бұрын
nope! :) we took that out around 4 months or so. once your pup is potty trained (or they've outgrown it at it's biggest setting) then it can be taken out!
