Gymnast of many years here if you want a quick tip on your backflips. There's 2 reasons why you're landing in a low squat. Number 1 is because you're jumping backwards way too much, try to land with your feet exactly where they started, which will give you much more vertical height. Number 2 is because you're looking up with your head. This causes your spine to straighten out, instead of being curled in a neat tuck which would greatly increase your rotation speed. Try to pick a spot on the wall in front of you and keep your head locked onto it for as long as possible.
@nofxorbust18 күн бұрын
Agreed - additionally, I always try to jump straight up, and then when you're at peak height, grab those knees and spin. You should land much more stood up.

Great tips. I can’t backflip but this all makes sense.

The secret is 1) jump up 2) tilt shoulders 3) pull up knees. Direct tip from my gymnastics coach dad rip

I loved this one John! That parkour spot at the beginning looks so fun. Would love to join you one day! Flips are looking great man. Front flips on flat are so tough.

For the rolls, I used to do a lot of parkour and one thing my friend that was teaching me drilled into me was how to roll properly. Looks like you already have the roll itself down, like rolling over your shoulder and diagonal across your back. The impact off of something tall is the tricky part though, transitioning into the roll. The idea is to take as much impact off of the landing as possible by distributing the impact across your body. It looks like when you land you're sticking then rolling. It needs to be one smooth motion as soon as you land you need to start going into the roll while also moving forward. The more straight down you fall, the harder it is to reduce the impact. Damn man, I've been watching you for so long. Wish I actually knew you irl, been watching for so many years and I've never related to anyone on youtube as much as I feel like I can relate to you. Hope you and the family is doing good bro, love that you're still uploading.
@w1z89418 күн бұрын
i was thinking this too.. dont stick the landing then roll, the roll is part of the landing so it's like a nollie flip back crook, it's all the same motion just a little more complex than "do this" it's "do this INTO this" as opposed to "do this" then "do that"

dude you inspire me so, so much. The skating, the calisthenics, the way you create content. I would take classes if you made them lol. I've had a crappy day and haven't been able to skate consistently for weeks due to the weather here- but this. your skating, editing, energy, every time. Much love John, always getting me in the mood to skate, I'm either gonna go out to an indoor park way out or at least do some fingerboarding + calisthenics lol. absofuckinlutely buying one of these rails when I move in a few months. Also thank you for reminding me to get consistent with calisthenics again- I've missed it. Much love and respect mate, you have a unique and bright soul and I've been watching for a few years now. keep killin it!!

Haven't got your videos in a few months and my god you have gotten great at the parkour stuff. One piece of advice, consider testing other shoe types. Just as with skateboarding, in parkour/flip-tricks/bboying there are shoes that are better for it than others. I know you're used to the skating shoes so they might end up being the best in the end but it's worth exploring. For bboying, especially when practicing I always liked a light multi-purpose running shoe that wasn't TOO flat on the soles. I found it much nicer to have a slightly rounded sides for when i'm popping out of aerials and landing on the the corners of my feet allowing it to roll properly to the sole/bottom of the foot without any ankle rolling scares.

This was rad. Always thought about trying out parkour, but was never sure how to start. Have watched vids. on YT, and the only way that makes sense (to start) would be in an environment like that gym. Getting older, I'm dealing with tension and muscle stiffness. Anyway, that rail session looked fun. Keep doing you, bro.

If I was as good as you at skating, I couldn't keep away either! I still skate in my forties with the same 10 tricks I've had since a teenager. I have learned Boardslides, blunt stalls, fakie tail stalls / slides and drop ins last in 2023 though!

Feedback as a beginner skater: 13" as the lowest height is a bit scary for someone learning to skate from a free course. The 9"-13" range rail from Keen Ramps is a sweet spot for me. Your product does look super solid and I love that it's 8 feet long. I just won't be able to get on a 13" rail yet until I progress a fair bit more

A little tip for the sideflip, do like a “two step” into the flip, as it adds more fluidity, control and power. Also more run up to the flip is super helpful as you can put more power into the rotation.

Shame on KZbin for regional discrimination to people outside USA and people who live in country's with less than 20 million people.
@@5baMpL by several ways, first of all, KZbin promotes video to mostly people from Your region (country) only and algorhytm ignores international views, also, less than percentage of people from Your region will watch Your video, second of all, KZbin decides to freeze views, if video does not get enough views in first few days, and, if people decide to stop watching after less than minute of the video.
