Hot bean sauce is similar to chilli but somehow more deep and satisfying. Its quite powerful so add it with care. Noodles make a quick easy meal and are great for using up leftovers. The tarp has really proved it’s worth as a lightweight shelter for when its hot. There is just one test left and that is rain. Provided its not too windy it should let us use the outside space in the rain and of course the sound of rain on a tarp is just wonderful. I had to take all the guy ropes off and sort out the knots. The next step will be to replace them with high vis ropes so people can see them. I don’t like high vis ones but because we use it with the NV200 its always going to be in places where other vehicles are moving and people.

Hi I’ve been watching all of your video’s and just like to say how amazing and well edited they are. I’m hoping to do the same as you travel around the U.K. and then further afield. One more thing you seem a lovely caring couple I like the way you two hold hands out walking and in lockdown 7 a lovely cuddle at the end. Keep posting amazing videos looking forward to seeing lots more .🥰🥰🥰

Thanks for your kind comments on the films. We do get on well and lets face it we have to in such a small van 👍

Wow, the drone shots are great they are so steady....brilliant to see scissors used on the noodles!! that will save so much of the mess I normally create :). Very different not having the commentary kind of missed it; but it does focus on the scenery and action. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the feedback. The scissors are vital in the camper as its too easy to flick sauce onto the carpeted walls 😏. I always like to vary the style of the films as it keeps me learning but interested to hear you preferred the commentary. 👍

All the experimenting you’re doing really shows off how versatile the tarp is opposed to an awning!👍🏻

Loved all the drone shots filming both of you walking. Very professional! I’m English but have lived in the USA for 20 years and I love watching your travels through the UK and Europe

Thanks Sandra. We love the USA and have visited a few times. Glad you enjoy seeing the mother country 👍

Great video. Very impressed that you can eat spaghetti and not get it over your white shirt. I never eat spaghetti when wearing white!

I think I only managed it because I made them a little too dry. Watch out for a shirt disaster next time 😁

wow one of my favorite non Ireland episodes... got to admit if it was me I would have stuck with the full size awning.. really doubles your outside space and would be enough room for me to sit outside in the rain possibly...
@LifeistooshortCK4 жыл бұрын
We will be avoiding an normal awning but only because we wild camp mainly and you need to be able to drive off if needed. If we were going to be on a campsite then sure a traditional awning would give lots of room and shelter. We have made a second canopy half the size of the one we show in this episode and actually I prefer it. It only needs one pole and 3 pegs and yet and works well but not that great for sitting out in heavy rain.

Great intro and I can see there was quite a lot of work on that opening sequence.

Most of the shots were from the drone and were shot in one flight. The extended flight time allowed me to keep it in the air all the way round the walk and just hover it wherever I wanted a shot. 👍

Just curious (again !) as to reason you keep the yellow reflective jackets on the seats , is that for use when walking or another reason ? Thanks
@LifeistooshortCK3 жыл бұрын
It is a legal requirement in some European countries to carry hi viz jackets for every person in the vehicle and they need to be accessible from inside the vehicle. We put them on the seats so we always know where they are and when we are away from the van it looks like someone is sitting in it, so a good theft deterrent too 🙂

That looks like an interesting tarp, did you buy it from Decathlon or did it come with the car? I'm looking for a cheaper option than Fiamma. I see Decathlon sell that brand with poles and lines for £30, I could use my roof rails as an anchor point.
@LifeistooshortCK4 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure we just got a pair of them from Amazon. Bought them years before the van and just adapted them. Advantages are very light, add no height or width when packed and they do the job in rain and sun. Disadvantages - takes longer to erect and you need the space to put it up. Some fixed awnings can be wound out just a bit. I am thinking of making some very small ones just to cover the side windows from rain. With some bendy carbon fibre rods they could be self supporting I think.

I have decided to go with a Quechua camping shelter Apenaz Base. It's cheaper than most specific van awnings at £80. 👍

Hi, Im am thinking of getting a NV200 camper because of your channel. I am worried that the NV200 may be underpowered and very slow. What engine do you have and how do you find it?
@LifeistooshortCK4 жыл бұрын
Its no sports car that is for sure. I have the more powerful diesel engine. If you are in the right gear its fine but one gear to high it quickly bogs down. The vehicle is best driven slowly and deliberately when negotiating junctions and roundabouts. Too fast and the roll will soon make you slow down. Fuel economy is great and in summary we find it powerful enough.
@jwilson20422 жыл бұрын
I'd say go for it. I got one after following these two and I don't regret it. Unlike theirs (diesel) mine is a 1.6 petrol. It can be a bit slow pulling away but I have easily managed 70mph in her (Cheryl). And I can go into multi story car parks, no problem. I love her!

I heard someone say you can wild camp for the night 😃

I heard him as well but unfortunately he is wrong. There are signs saying no camping and each time we have been there we have seen park rangers 👍

Your kitchen set up seems to be one used in other types of vans... have you found that to be true? It really looks like the same material used by VW back in the 90's...
@LifeistooshortCK4 жыл бұрын
To be honest the layouts are all similar as there are limited options in such a small van. I have not been inside a VW van. I don’t know what the material is but its very hard wearing and substantial. There were a multitude of finishes of all patterns and colours but we wanted something fairly bright.
