The lights are so beautiful. Here in Australia, where I live, I have seen the magic of the Aurora Australis when on a frosty winter’s night when the atmospheric conditions are right, the lights appear. It doesn’t happen often and I have only seen them once but they were wonderful.

The sad thing is they have blocked the car park on the mainland side of the causeway since my last visit with my late mother it was a great place to park up and wait for the tide to either go out or watch it come in, the issue we had using the causeway was someone going slow admiring the scenery with about twenty minutes before the tide came so had to pass them got to mainland parked up and watched it’s amazing how fast it does come in. Etal castle also brings back happy memories Cragside and Chillingham castle are good place’s to visit.

It amazes me when you talk about history in the 1300's. We have nothing recorded from that time where I live. There were native Americans but Europe would not "discover" my area until the 1600's (?) The Northern Lights were glorious. Loved the selfie of the two of you.

The stories of the Seneca go back 60,000 years. A storyteller was obligated to study all of his life to get the story exactly right. Same words, same pauses, same tone so the it was repeated and the feelings were communicated/repeated EXACTLY as the original teller. A young man would begin with shorter stories, telling them to children and visitors. The official storyteller would determine what stories he was ready to tell and his repertoire expanded as he learned. He would be ready by the time the official storyteller was too old, was becoming forgetful or died. If he died prematurely, it was a tragedy for the entire tribe. The apprentice could (and would) study with neighboring clans and relations in other tribes who were storytellers to recover as much as he could. Unfortunately, the government never accepted their histories as they were not written down while the tribe did not trust the practice of writing them as much is lost in translation with no inflections or tears could be intuited by reading flat words. Fortunately, the people of my generation and two generations behind me began recording as many stories as they could from the Elders, the Medicine people and the Storytellers to save as much history as was possible. To the best of my knowledge, only one Navajo Code Talker remains. When he is gone, only what was recorded remains. The best example of what can be twisted by the written word is the book Black Elk Speaks. She did not recognize his humor and took him quite literally. But that’s not my story or my tribe to tell. It was a very good friend of mine’s people. The history his here, you just have to know where to look and who to ask.

Our favourite part of Northumberland. We visit annually. We were there a couple of weeks ago - staying in our usual cottage! The cafe at Maelmin (Millfield) is nice and we love the Lavender Tearoom at Etal. The whole estate of Ford and Etal is so beautifully kept and the belted Galloway catlle at Ford are gorgeous. You should visit the Heatherslaw Railway which runs alongside the River Till? Our German Shepherd loves it!,, 😉😉 Lindisfarne/ Holy Island is nice but SO busy. We visit Northumbria every other year from Sussex, and who knows, we might just live there one day ❤. Loved your video, just perfect. How amazing to experience the aurora borealis whilst wild camping. We've never managed to visit the Ford and Etal Estates, and we look forward to this on our next trip in 2026. Lindisfarne is one of our favourite places, we've parked many a time in the large car park, and bought locally grown produce from the villagers running the stall near the entrance. So glad you didn't lose your drone. Can't wait for next Friday 😊😍🚐🐾 xx

Great, informative and intriguing, as always. Great to see Etal again, there is an old community hall there with large painted panels, I think depicting either local trades or perhaps biblical scenes. There is a link with the Waterford Irish Glass family somehow, hence your Guinness!! The Lindisfarne Causeway, has always been notorious, back in the late 1970s when I worked at the Castle, there were two pubs then and they had inspections done by a local PC. Because of the causeway, a link of locals would telephone in advance, so the curtains were closed, lights off, everyone silent and doors locked, for overnight 'lockins'!! Easter was a nightmare, for holiday and religious reasons, everyone and his dog seemed to come to the island!! Take care & stay safe. Kia Ora from New Zealand. 💜💜
