This short film premiered in front of a live audience at Crankworx 2018, and was funded by Diamondback Bicycles and Box Components. It was for a film competition called Dirt Diaries, in which it won third place. The actual name of the film is "A Bigger Swing Set".
The rules were that the film must be 6 minutes or less, and feature Whistler Blackcomb and/or Whistler Valley.
The film is centered around my childhood friend, Scott, who is still a BMXer. He has never touched a mountain bike! I knew that the best way to get him hooked would be to introduce him to downhill, since jump trails would be so familiar to him.
Someday I'll take Scott out for a proper climb, and show him about suffering. Hopefully he still loves mountain biking after that! In filming this Dirt Diaries entry, I certainly think we made Scott a believer.

BMX transfers ultra easily to MTB. Everything you learn on a BMX just becomes natural on a bigger set. Couldnt ride my MTB for a month because of weather and othet thingies, but rode a bmx on AN indoor pumptrack quite often. Suddenly able to hit jumps twice as big as big with no fear

The seats are way too high. I've grown up on BMX, and rriding a bike with a very tall seat is like standing with a cushionup ny ass. It also makes the habdlebars feel lower. And I've ridden a bike with low handle bars. Itls hard to control. It's very limiting have something between your thighs than between just your shins I have my fair share of jumping a tiny ramp with a high seat. My fcn ass slams into the seat I never sit down and peddle. Only time I sit is when cruising

As I watched it I thought to myself this guy needs to do a MTB documentary. I’ve had an idea about a feature length documentary about MTB KZbinrs. I would expect to see a person with a beginning channel, a few in the middle, and a few with big channels like you and your buddies. Really chronicle the path. I used to race when i was 16-17 years old.. and now that im 40 and recently got back into MTB I feel young again and twice as daring... better shape than ever and really love how much it has opened my eyes and feelings up to everything... Can't believe i waited this long to get going again but so glad i did and so glad to hear someone else enjoying it and really letting the bike take you.

This is dope! I come from BMX but I now ( thanks to you ) ride MTB most of the time. I always knew I was going to ride a MTB as grey hairs came in but was reluctant on doing so because of the cheesy outfits and other ( which I now know to be XC ) stuff ( not that there's anything wrong with XC it's just not for me) . Turns out MTB is what you want it to be. Watching your videos along with Alex's , Brian , Phil and Bobos videos has made me realize you can get rad on an MTB .

I grew up with skateboards and lots of friends in the BMX community and this video is spot on to how most of the BMX crowd views MTB. And also showcases how beautiful it is when the two mesh. That dude was smashing those jumps. Natural style. Awesome video man.

I love that quote that “you’re rewarded no matter what”. He is right, and that’s one of the things that continues to draw me back to the trails. Even on my “bad” days when I feel totally out of the groove I still find my self with the biggest smile on my face. It could be a tiny rock drop, a nicely shaped berm, a gnarly double, or anything in between and you’ll still hear me hooting and hollering my way down the mountain. Good stuff right here!

I rode bmx my whole life, and so naive to have such a closed mind about other styles of riding. I’m 30 and just bought my first dh bike yesterday. Everything I know about riding is out the window when I get on this thing, it’s a whole different world. And the Mtb community actually seems more productive than bmx community.

I have come to a point in life where I just picked up every sport I ever liked again, after a few years not doing it so much , but I am in love with transitions of every kind, that is what I see everywhere: Hits & landings, hits & landings, everywhere, all terrain, all weather, they sometimes become secret monuments to personal glory.

You know, I find it interesting, because I kind of felt the same way when I stopped longboarding for biking. I thought, longboarding had been so good to me, and now I like biking much better. Don't get me wrong, I still love skating, but biking just feels right. There's a feeling you get on a bike that you just don't get anywhere else. (the same could be said for skating as well) But, at the same time, I don't feel like you're betraying anything. You're just doing what you love and what you feel is right. And I don't think it should be done any other way.
