This short film premiered in front of a live audience at Crankworx 2018, and was funded by Diamondback Bicycles and Box Components. It was for a film competition called Dirt Diaries, in which it won third place. The actual name of the film is "A Bigger Swing Set".
The rules were that the film must be 6 minutes or less, and feature Whistler Blackcomb and/or Whistler Valley.
The film is centered around my childhood friend, Scott, who is still a BMXer. He has never touched a mountain bike! I knew that the best way to get him hooked would be to introduce him to downhill, since jump trails would be so familiar to him.
Someday I'll take Scott out for a proper climb, and show him about suffering. Hopefully he still loves mountain biking after that! In filming this Dirt Diaries entry, I certainly think we made Scott a believer.

BMX transfers ultra easily to MTB. Everything you learn on a BMX just becomes natural on a bigger set. Couldnt ride my MTB for a month because of weather and othet thingies, but rode a bmx on AN indoor pumptrack quite often. Suddenly able to hit jumps twice as big as big with no fear

The seats are way too high. I've grown up on BMX, and rriding a bike with a very tall seat is like standing with a cushionup ny ass. It also makes the habdlebars feel lower. And I've ridden a bike with low handle bars. Itls hard to control. It's very limiting have something between your thighs than between just your shins I have my fair share of jumping a tiny ramp with a high seat. My fcn ass slams into the seat I never sit down and peddle. Only time I sit is when cruising

Great idea taking someone who never rode. Honest take: it started out slow, roped me in, but ended a little abruptly. Nonetheless, great video Seth. As I watched it I thought to myself this guy needs to do a MTB documentary. I’ve had an idea about a feature length documentary about MTB KZbinrs. I would expect to see a person with a beginning channel, a few in the middle, and a few with big channels like you and your buddies. Really chronicle the path. I still ride. But recently i’ve bought a big travel trail bike and started riding that like i stole it. It made me feel like i was 15 again learning stuff at the skatepark. I too struggled with using brakes and figuring it out from bmx but boy once you do, it’s like night and day.

This is dope! I come from BMX but I now ( thanks to you ) ride MTB most of the time. I always knew I was going to ride a MTB as grey hairs came in but was reluctant on doing so because of the cheesy outfits and other ( which I now know to be XC ) stuff ( not that there's anything wrong with XC it's just not for me) . Turns out MTB is what you want it to be. Watching your videos along with Alex's , Brian , Phil and Bobos videos has made me realize you can get rad on an MTB .

Such a rad edit Seth!! It’s cool to see you share and give back what was given to you....the stoke of mountain biking. Scott is a ripper and he should know he isn’t betraying BMX, but honoring the bike itself by taking his skill set to the trails!

This was an exceptionally made, a truly wonderful addition to the internet, thank you Seth, for inspiring old and young to go out and experience new things. Keep shreddin* and I'm hoping to head to Whistler before summers end so I should have a video come out on that, who knows. Have a great day.

He nailed one point perfectly. I've recently start mtb myself from an absolute beginner and have yet to experience any form of mocking or condescension based on lack of ability in the year I've been riding. Any mtb'er I've ever met has always been the nicest person.

Haha I watched many other BMX trying MTB videos, funny how they all started with "I didn't sign up for this" going through rock garden and technical sections. Once they hit the flowy sections and jumps, it became "Mountain bike for life!!"

I raced Bmx for about 22 years almost my entire life, just moved from SoCal up to OR and decided to get a hard tail and hit the mountain, I can’t believe what I was missing out on all these years, I’m hooked. Freaking phenomenal that his first mountain experience was on that sweet ass bike on the most amazing trails in the world, you made this dude’s whole entire universe that is great!

I rode bmx my whole life, and so naive to have such a closed mind about other styles of riding. I’m 30 and just bought my first dh bike yesterday. Everything I know about riding is out the window when I get on this thing, it’s a whole different world. And the Mtb community actually seems more productive than bmx community.

Spent my teenage years riding bmx every spare minute I had and I thought nothing in the world could replace it. about 10 year after I stopped riding any bike in general, I picked up a mountain bike following a friend and it completely changed my view on riding bikes. Always used to think if you aren't doing tricks or riding walls or grinding rails that's not fun or exciting. Now I am so humbled and see myself so little and weak against the mother nature.

You know, I find it interesting, because I kind of felt the same way when I stopped longboarding for biking. I thought, longboarding had been so good to me, and now I like biking much better. Don't get me wrong, I still love skating, but biking just feels right. There's a feeling you get on a bike that you just don't get anywhere else. (the same could be said for skating as well) But, at the same time, I don't feel like you're betraying anything. You're just doing what you love and what you feel is right. And I don't think it should be done any other way.
