I bought another Honda Navi for UNDER MSRP!! But it's not as exciting as I had hoped it would be...because I didn't do my due diligence and kiiinda got ripped off. Hopefully you all can learn from my mistakes! Now...what should we do with the new (used) Honda Navi? Destroy it, sell it, or fix it?...

That's almost certainly a CVT issue. The belt is shuddering as the clutch engages and that causes the bike to shake. The centrifugal clutch might have a broken spring or the clutch shoes might be glazed. If the bike is under 12 months old, then the Honda warranty is still in effect, so I'd go that route first. If the warranty is expired, then a new performance variator, rear drive assembly (pulley, springs, and centrifugal clutch), and belt will set you back around $200-250. Good luck with the diagnosis, and let me know if you need any help... I've been down that road many, many times! 😉👍 --QM

Had a similar issue on a scooter years back and disassembled the variator/CVT transmission for troubleshooting. Found the issue right alway and it was the weights in the variator that had desintegrated partly. I think you need to remove the cover of the final drive and you will probably see right away what the issue is. Quasimotard has extensive knowledge in cvt transmissions and you already know him.

My money is on stripped splines or threads either variator or clutch side. Easy to mess up with an impact wrench. But a big enough mistake to warrant just selling it at MSRP.

Right exactly. Even if it’s not covered under warranty and you end up paying for the diagnostic, the mechanic will at least be able to tell you what’s wrong with it and you can determine if: a) you can fix it yourself; or b) the price for them to fix it is worth it to you to let them do it. Definitely sounds like the clutch and would also explain why it is worse once the bike warms up. Since you mentioned that it feels faster than your stock Navi it almost makes me think some has played with the CVT. I personaly would take it apart and try to fix it. The parts are cheap and there are tons of KZbin videos out there showing how to work on the Navi CVT.

It's funny to listen to everyone guessing. It could be lots of things like you said in the video. It takes less than 5 minutes to pull off the cvt housing to inspect. You don't know if any components are aftermarket. I've modded my navi, and have had positive and negative results. First thing that comes to mine without being able to see inside, is there is an aftermarket clutch, or bell housing that's the wrong size. Next could be a bad combo of rollers or wrong size rollers. Over torqued variator bolt, causing the belt to stick, or possibly over torqued so bad it crushed the drive shaft bearing and its crank walking (check oil for shinys). My guess if the engine sounds good is that there is a broken clutch spring so the clutch is engaging even. That's 3 dollar, 20 mintue fix. FYI, I bought my navi because of your videos. Good luck, keep us posted.

So the vibration is most likely coming from the variator, the first part of belt engagement . This variator is controlled by a set of rollers that spin outwards. If the rollers are dirty they may stick for a second causing vibration (so clean). Or a set of damaged rollers flat spots , but are very cheap parts to change and installing 12 gram or 13 gram rollers can also increase pickup (variator closes faster) squeezing the belt, engaging the secondary clutch more quickly. I would check also polished variator surface causing belt chatter of course everything must slid on the boss freely and must be torqued to specs. Lastly possibly belt damage also very cheap I always have a spare anyway . The cvt cover is easy to remove 1 tricky bolt has a spacer . The cover wiggles out with a little wiggling back and forth the starter cap sticks a little and is finicky to reinstall. This is really easy to do with a metric socket set . And torque wrench. It will teach you how to tune CVT . Hight performance snowmobiles next month.

I'm not being a dick but I don't get the amount of KZbinrs who buy shit under warranty then make videos complaining or trying to get people troubleshooting off a video. First off it's not brand new and it has 800 miles on it. So there was time for someone to mess with the CVT and change things, or it's new and despite Hondas reputation new things can go bad. That's what warranty is for. Seems like the seller is pretty stand up by telling you to bring it in but warning you if someone messed with it it won't be covered. Obviously the guy who sold it didn't do it or run it to know. And everyone skips titles it's not a sign of anything. I don't because I can get a title in a reasonable time where I live but if you get something on trade or are flipping you don't want to wait weeks to sell it.

Your idle speed rpm is faster than the rpm that you're turning the throttle at so when it syncs up it probably just stops really quick and catches after or the belt could be pinching. Take off that side plate with the kick stand. Those transmissions are only 3 parts. Clutch, belt and the variator( if you don't include the flywheel and clutch bell lol) super super super easy to work on. Rolling wrench would probably point you in the right direction. Go the warranty route first and let the shop take a look at the bike first. If it is something the warranty doesn't cover at least you'll have a answer what the noise is. I think the noise has something to do CVT/belt. I've worked on bikes many years and would be able to figure out how to fix it. Getting a Honda Navi service manual would also help. It's weird that the front rattles so much if it's a CVT issue, but I also do feel like it's a CVT issue since it happens on take off. The CVT is pretty simple (variator spins with engine, uses rollers to push the v-plate outward which moves the belt up and engages the clutch and changes the gear ratio), and it almost sounds like your belt is super loose. It's like 6 8mm bolts to pop that CVT cover off and take a look; super quick and easy. You can run it with the cover off and get a much better idea of what might be happening. Changing the rollers in the stock variator is one of the cheapest upgrades for the money that can really change performance. The stock rollers are 17grams and a lot of people go down to 12 or 13g for more acceleration. This previous owner could have done this and reinstalled incorrectly. I'm still banking on a loose belt which you would see right away when you pop that cover off. Hope you get it figured out! Looking forward to a follow up video.

Do a video of you fixing it yourself, change weights and belt or see if they do a polini kit for it, that can make it go a bit faster also? Videos are on KZbin, you will benefit from the experience and knowledge, knowing how to change belts and roller weights will save you money in future anyway... do not stress test it, it's a lovely machine that probably has minimal fault I love the colour if it too... we don't get them in UK but I wish we did, the only thing I would like to see is fuel injection on them..

Definitely sounds like cvt issue. With clutch, belt or both. But warranty does not cover cvt wear. Unless something broke prematurely, Honda will not cover cvt parts under their warranty protection. Check that cvt. If it is the clutch or belt or both that is a cheap fix and still worth the deal you got. 👍
@packgrog

Yeah, hearing what it sounds like, and seeing videos of other people changing out CVT parts on these bikes, my guess would be a clutch issue as well. DEFINITELY try to get it addressed with warranty. If the prior owner had messed with trying to do the upgrade, it'd be good to know that, in case he already voided the warranty. But it does indeed seem like something that should be easily fixable (or improvable) without too much money. Should be a way cheaper fix-up than that Rebel 500 was! Definitely don't trash it. It's still a freakin' Honda. Get it fixed, or do the fix yourself if Honda is a bitch about it.

Ugh, Honda quality is going downhill!! HONDA IS HAVING DCT ISSUES IN THEIR ATVS AND OTHER THINGS WITH THE DCT, FROM WHAT I EXPERIENCED AND HAVE READ, DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH! I test drove a used ATV with DCT that was traded with 3 miles and it clearly had significant transmission issues. It rode very rough, and hesitated with gear changes and bogged down, I guess this is reportedly a wide spread problem with Honda's DCT within the last few years, this ATV was a 2022 or 23 I forget which. Anywho, this might be going on with your bike, may be the DCT transmission!

The Navi need a little more power, not much more but it needs it. I would love a 125cc fuel injection with a modern gauge cluster, led lamps/turn signals. I'm ready to pay more to get a better version of this moto. I'm thorn between the new Grom and the Navi, I want a fun no fuss low price bike. I had a 2014 Grom when it came out. Sold it to buy a 2017 FZ09, didn't like it and I sold it to buy my 2019 CB300R. The CB300R was like a big Grom, don't have it anymore, had a major crash in October. Ran into a deer at 90kmh, the deer and the bike are dead now 🤣🤣🤣 Need a replacement bike now 🤣

Hi I have scooter called the explorer 50 which is the same bike as the ice bear vision scooter. SAME EXACT PROBLEM EVERYTHING YOU DID SLOWLY OR FAST ACCELERATEION IT SHAKES VIOLENTLY NO MATTER WHAT UNTIL YOU GO FASTER, AND IT MAKES A SOUND FROM THE BACK AND YOU CAN FEEL IT ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR TRYING TO DRIVE SLOW WHICH THROWS YOU OFF LIKE YOU NEVER RODE A BIKE, ALSO YOU CAN SEE THE ENGINE SKIPPING AND HEAR A SOUND. ALSO WITH THE NOISE YOU CAN HEAR THE ENGINE GOING IN AND OUT LIKE ITS THE CLUTCH INCLUDING MINE

Honestly, dude, I must have rolled my eyes a half-dozen times watching and listening to this video. It's not the end of the world, your Navi isn't a piece of sh*t that should be thrown off a cliff immediately, and you're being overly dramatic beating yourself up over this. First, either: A) It's still under the manufacturer's warranty, is it? GET IT TO A BONA-FIDE HONDA MOTORCYCLE DEALER if you are not going to fix it yourself. What the heck are you waiting for? It's likely something easy to fix and you may have had it repaired by now. or B) Take a look at both the inside of the air filter box and look inside the belt/pulley cover. My first guess is a mouse/rodent made a nest in one of these spots. Do us a favor and please update with another video once you get it fixed. If I had a nickel every time an Internet user asked for help on a motorcycle and NEVER gets back with the solution to the problem. Good luck. 👍

Definitely a centrifugal clutch issue. Maybe there's oil on the clutch, or maybe a spring is broken. Suggest looking at two KZbin videos, "2022 HONDA NAVI CLUTCH INSTALL!" and "Honda Navi clutch broke / how to change clutch"

If I bought it and it was doing that; first I'd try to figure of it was under warranty. I usually allow my self up to $500 for any used vehicle I buy. Just upfront maintenance I do, oil, filters, plugs, belts and any Miscellaneous "Needs". It's just part of my budget. My experience is different, it sounds like you don't have much mechanical experience. I'd stay out of it if I were you. I'd dive into it, but I've worked around motors, cars trucks all my life. (I'm 42, never ridden a motorcycle other than a Short ride followed by a moving dismount with a motorcycle lying on its side running in gear..... I think that was refferd to as a Whiskey Throttle and a few scary moments of chasing a spinning Dirtbike). Anyway. You might make some good content if you attempted it yourself. Or do you have any other buddies who are mechanically inclined? Bring them on your channel. Get the girlfriend to fix it. You guys seem to have a good presence on "film". Either way, what ever you do I wouldn't get rid of it. Honda really does make a good product (most of the time). I'd say it's worth the fix, (even you you pay dealer). Ride safe cheers brother 👍🏻

What went wrong was you tried to save $275 off the MSRP and got a used and abused 800 mile bike that some kid probably learned to ride on, they can only go 55 MPM, and like my older brother (who is in high school) He ruined the automatic trans and his Honda NAVI (means kind to people in india) did the same shuddering then started smelling like boot leather burning. He drove at top speed on the highway (55MPH) to school everyday for 5 months or 480 miles on the odometer. That is made in mexico, and the honda dealerships mechnics know when you abuse them like that and deny repair like that under warrenty. My brother was told the NAVI is basicly a scooter meant for 15-45 mph daily, or they will start doing what yours does. Another problem with his new one he is doing that again and there are always people in cars comming up behind him on the highwway doing 65 -70 fast and flashing headlights. My dad took it apart and repaired it, most of these commenters have it right, except the guy who compaired it to a Honda Ruckus they are nothing like a ruckus. NAVI is basicly a Honda Grom Scooter.

Not into mini motos, but have owned a lot of CVT scooters. It's almost certainly the clutch. Even if the whole CVT is bad, it's still a cheap fix, plus you can mess with roller weights and stuff to make more KZbin content. I would first check out the warranty, if that doesn't pan out, then go ahead and pull the CVT cover, and the problem should become obvious. DON'T destroy it. A cheap repair will make it as good as new. Remember it was made in India and assembled in Mexico. If the engine runs good, there is nothing else expensive on it. If you feel like destroying something, destroy those hideous Rebels.
@2020Max1
@2020Max1 Жыл бұрын
Might be an easy fix, from what it sounds like you may have damaged or broken roller(s) in the clutch and they are not fully engaging until the engine reaches a certain speed. If it is potentially covered under warrantee, I would go that route at the very least you'd be able to find out exactly what is wrong with it and will have a better idea whether or not it's worth it to repair. As far as going the torture test route while it would be fun to see, I doubt that you'd make your money back on it. Thats a numbers game, Whistlingdiesel has 4.5mil subs and averages around 2mil views a video where as you currently have 46k subs and average around 3k views if you did make your money back it would take quite a long time.

Rattling upon pickup acceleration? We in the Philippines called it “dragging”. Since we have so many cvt scoots around that if we encounter such we just clean the cvt as in disassembled wash it with gasoline and re assemble. My SYM Excel II does the same thing before when the cvt wasn’t cleaned for 30k km. Now it was cleaned and I don’t have those anymore.

It's under warranty bro, It's under warranty. You get what you paid for. You spent $1800 on a brand new motorcycle what do you expect. And that I mentioned it's under warranty. I take my Honda navi Down dirt roads and full Wheeler trails and haven't had a problem at all. And if I did I would take it to the dealer cause it's under warranty. I wonder why you don't make any money on your KZbin channel. 🤯 wow.

I don't know what it is with Honda's I had a Honda 350cc and a Honda 400CC two different motorcycles in each one of them was nothing but problems and problems and problems Honda is a big name and it's popular around the world but I have never had any luck with the two I had they both were a total nightmare until I finally got rid of them. Maybe Honda just uses its big name and puts less quality materials in the parts of the motors and everything else I don't know what it is. Was even more crazy is I bought a ice beer 125CC that's considered a cheaper bike it's made in China not Japan I've had that thing all year I drive it everyday hard and it runs like a fine Swiss watch ! Bottom line is I think Honda bikes are just junk. How could a Chinese inexpensive bike run so beautifully and then you buy a Honda and it is nothing but endless problems all the time so you tell me ?

Mine does exactly that and I'm aware of the problem, still don't fix it tho. My variator rollers are in really bad shape almost flattened , the clutch is in bad shape, springs are in bad shape, everything is in bad shape 😂 Idles ok, cruises ok... But whenever i stop or slow down it shakes a lot after pulling the throttle again. Sometimes it does even feel like the motorcycle is about to turn off (Almost like when you are running out of gas). Anyways, like a lot of comments here, it most certainly is a CVT issue...
