This Custom helm console has gone on way too long - Catamaran Build Ep265

If you think like me, this Helm Console has gone on way too long. I am gonna change that this week and kick it into touch to get the final shape ready for it's install in the Catamaran. Months of steady work has culminated in this very obscure shape that in my opinion is perfect for the job.

Just for S's and G's, I went back and looked at one of your old video's, EP0001. I watched that to review where you started to where you are at now. What an accomplishment and progress in those 5 years. Well done Ross and Janet. I even watched the episode where you were slipping and sliding while polishing the mold, got a renewed laugh out of me on that one.

That’s a start Ross with strengthening the area for winches, you are going to need to tie the reinforced underside via gusset down to the existing hull. You will still get flex if you don’t. Been there done that. Think of it like creating individual box sections

It looks great, Rossco. Nice job! As you said, it looks as if it came out of a mould. While you were designing it, I was tut-tutting and finding it hard to believe that it would ever look so good. I was wrong! 😄

I wonder if perhaps adding a custom cut piece of metal would've been a better option... it's done in rudders, and those go in the water, so a perforated piece of metal to reinforce all that area would've been a solid choice in my book at least. Regardless, things are coming along, they may not be fast, but they are progressing. From my point of view, you're actually speeding along. For (mostly) one guy to build a boat this big, at this level of quality, that exceeds some of the best manufacturers out there... you might as well be speeding on the Autobahn as far as i'm concerned.

Looks amazing Rosco. Always amazed at your patience in finishing gel coat. Working at a yacht factory in my teens I absolutely abhored polishing out gel coat and imperfections in the molded hull parts. Your're correct when you state that your finish looks like it came out of a mold and I'm not sure how many realize just how difficult a task that is!

Where you "Bond the Nav Station to the deck" has to be strong enough for the Clutches AND the Wenches.

The clutches will be mounted on the cabin roof with g10 backing the winches have more than enough box section support that has been factored into.The entire helm station has internal structure that is integrated into deck and cabin wall.Cheers.Ross

Watch many boaters finding damage and being unsure what it means because the structure of the boat is a mystery to them. At least if you find your helm cracked you'll know that you probably hit a cargo ship in the night and you should probably turn back and look for survivors!

How do you figure out how thick a piece needs to be in order to provide the strength and stability that you are looking for? , and for that matter, how do you figure out what is needed in the first place. These questions have been on my mind while watching your build from the beggining.

Sorry! I’ve held this in for at least 5 videos, but I can’t anymore! Your port side engine management console is crooked. If you put a ruler on top of both, the right hand corner dips down. Love your work and drive Rossco!

Only dry fitted.Dies actually straighten with a tiny bit of pkay after the coring was done .
