The DA40’s industry-leading safety record is the result of Diamond’s commitment to protecting occupants with a vast array of both active and passive safety features. Active safety features include stable handling at low speeds, short take-off and landing distances, superior visibility and state-of-the-art avionics. Passive safety features such as aluminum fuel cells protected by the DA40’s dual carbon fiber spars, help prevent post impact fires, a 26G rated safety cell cockpit and a host of other built in features help keep you safe should the unexpected happen. As a result, the DA40 line tops the general aviation list with both the lowest overall and fatal rates (Source: Aviation Consumer January 2012).

Very nice video and I will use some of the patter for type conversions. I didn't see the TO flap retracted or fuel pump switched off after takeoff at 700 ft AGL but noticed they were off later in the video. I am FI in the UK exclusively flying DA40 and DA42 Diamond > 1000 hours Instructing. There are significant advantages with FADEC not found in another aircraft type with name sounding like a cloud I would comment . . . Waiting to the DA50 to be available here in the UK

I learned to fly in the DV and DA 20 back in the 90s. One of the things they would do is spins. Will this aircraft, the DA40 NG spin? Is it certified in both Standard and Utility catagories like the Rotax DV & DA-20 are? It was the best thing for getting over the problem of carrying an extra few knots on landing. To know what the airplane is telling you made life so much easier. And spins are great fun. Several times on way back to the barn my instructor and I would compete for who had to buy a beer after we were done. 4 and half turn spins. We had a road out in the desert that was our guide. In the end it was about even. But, it sure helped my flying as I learned how to feel the airplane talking which made me a better and safer pilot. No more floating down the runway! I loved them then and I am sure I will love the new ones. Although, I have never flown a glass cockpit. I cant wait. Thank you!

Hey Ron! The DA40 is not approved for spins. Glad to hear you got to enjoy the DA20 though -- it's a fun, sporty airplane!

I always thought of the planning, navigating, running up to check the engine, manually piloting as part of the enjoyment of flying. If the airplane does everything, where's the fun? One might as well stay home and let the airplane take the flight by itself.

So I fly this plane in MSFS 2020. From kPWG to KCWC, 184nm converted to regular miles 211.7. I use 10.8 gallons of JetA. For 19.5 mpg. At 10,000 feet. Is this about right for the real DA40? If correct this would be a great selling point. Better mileage than my 2014 Tacoma.

Would love to own one. Sadly GA is just ridiculously expensive. Not sure I’ll ever be able to afford a $500-600,000 airplane. Shit, my current 70 year old aircraft cost me $60k lol. Just insane.

Does it have an airframe parachute? Thanks
@owenrosindell8956
@owenrosindell8956 2 жыл бұрын
No and you probably don't need one in a DA40. With engine out the decent rate (and speed at which you'd hit the ground) when trimmed is very low. Compare this with the decent rate of another GA aircraft when using an airframe parachute. The speed could be up to 1700 ft per minute or 3X that of the DA40NG . . . The only place this parachute system will benefit is in mountainous and rocky domains or over extensive forests and even then there are significant risks to deployment

Dislike the instructural technique. 1 person on the controls - either the student or take the aircraft. Having 2 people on the controls is bad all around.

As “reliable” as prop aircraft engines can be, they are a joke compared to car engines. Their reliability is crap. Aviation Engine failure stats are astounding, I know you’d ever imagine your old Chevy/Toyota/Audi/Ford engine to simply break and seize up or malfunction. Funny, isn’t it?
@buckshot704
@buckshot704 2 жыл бұрын
Completely different conversation. Apples and oranges. Aviation power plants operate in three dimensions not two as would any machine designed for land travel. Any man-made machine has the capacity to fail. Proper maintenance is key, along with competent instruction for the range of use.
@cmdmd
@cmdmd 2 жыл бұрын
@@buckshot704 The numbers don’t lie. Regardless of maintenance, piston aircraft engines have a considerably higher failure rate when compared to car engines. It is an issue of reliability, the constipated certification process has strangled innovation. Just facts.
@buckshot704
@buckshot704 2 жыл бұрын
@@cmdmd ; I’d be curious to see evidence of those “facts”. I call statistical BS. If true, then aviation, as a global industry, either has tremendously competent pilots who consistently put-up with manufacturing negligence, or lazy attorneys refusing to file lawsuits against engine manufacturers. The video is about a particular model of Diamond aircraft. Their diesel is an outstanding mechanical marvel. I fail to see how negative perspectives about aircraft engines versus car engines makes sense. Two totally different applications.
@jasonsong86

It's all relative. Most airplane engines are running continuously at 70-90% of power where car engines rarely continuously run at that level.
