23Zero makes great products, but all of those 270 shades are short and only have one setup configuration. We like having our 8x8 awning on the side (with optional room) and a 4x6 on the back. It gives us the flexibility to only use the back for quick lunches on the road. We use the back one 3x more often than the side. Looking forward to your full review.

Here's just a quick first-look at the newly released Peregrine Awning by 23Zero USA. We're looking forward to putting this through it's paces in the southwest winds! NOTE: The fitment on the rear hatch can be adjusted for better clearance... we were just in a hurry for this one. Stay tuned for a full review...

I'm a big fan of shade from sun and cover from rain, but I haven't pulled the trigger on an awning because of two reasons: 1- I don't have room on the side of my rack with everything else (hilift, maxtrax, shovel), and 2- every friend I know with an awning has had it destroyed in the wind. This one looks like it might stand a chance in the wind, so I'm anxious to see how well it holds up for you as you adventure with it.
@LifestyleOverland5 жыл бұрын
Awnings are literally a sail and an unexpected wind or gust can indeed snap them. That's why we are religious about always staking them down; even when it seems calm. Thankfully this version has enough strength to put up with a bit of wind without tie-downs which makes setup and pack-down less of a risky business.

Looking forward in the full review to hear the value argument compared to other awnings in the market. Let's hope this isn't another Garmin Overlander! Would also like to hear about parts support, not a question of if my awning is going to break but how easy is it going to be to get it fixed.

I have the Darche 270 & Love it!! Over all I would say it is larger than this one though, especially the area at the rear which has better coverage which is important for me, as the last vehicle it was on had one large side opening door. (RHD so the door went to the right looking from the rear) )I could swing it out with a trailer on, having a pole each side of the trailer draw bar. It's about to go onto my new (old Camping Truck. A Suburban with Barn Doors) so I expect it will also have just as good coverage. I have had some issues with it, especially with the zip from all the dust we had here in Oz. I enjoyed watching the video though. Thanks.

Both sizes of the Rhino Rack Batwing's are significantly less expensive and cover way more of the tail gate imo. My buddy has their Dome 1300 awning and it allows him to fully open his hatch and be protected from the elements. I think he only paid $300 for it! We've been in some serious rain and wind with no issues staying dry.

The overall design looks nice and I wish I had aluminum hardware on my batwing. But the coverage on the rear looks pretty horrible. Without a hatch it doesn't look like it provides a lot of shelter. The rear section seems really small.

Now that you have the tent on top of the rig with the awning does it interfere with getting the tent cover back on and zipped up etc? Seems like we spend some time standing on that driver side trying to get the tent stuffed back in the cover and zipped on that side and having the awning there would make it that much tougher to get at that area.

Was at a camping show and the rhino rack one seems flimsy. The salesman even offered to include extra hinges as he had one snapp on him... Rhino Rack awning weighs 19kgs whereas the Darche and 23Zero weigh 27kgs, but they are much more solid and rigid. But hey, that's just me. Have you ever done a discussion on driver side vs passenger side for the awning location? We are considering this issue currently.
@davisblack7657 Жыл бұрын
Reasons for mounting awning on the passenger side: 1) It's the side away from the road in the US, opposite of right hand drive countries 2) RVers usually park facing east, so awning is facing south and west keeping interior cooler over the course of the day 3) Allows shelter/shower to be placed on driver side as shown.

Curious if it complete covers the back? In a review by Live Work Wander on the Rhino 270 Batwing awning, one of Jorge’s frustrations was that it didn’t completely touch the back of the vehicle, so more like a 265 degree awning.

To call this a 270 degree is a bit of a stretch, being that the panel that makes it so, only covers the tail-gate.
@michaelrutledge70485 жыл бұрын
Johnny Brewer To paraphrase your comment, "barely covers the tailgate". Sliding the install further to the rear might improve coverage. I mean, that’s where most of the activity takes place. Poorly designed, IMO.
