I have to admit, being an avid Mac user myself, I do now use a Chromebook as my daily driver for web browsing. I am an electrician so except for my billing and proposals which I do still use my Mac Pro, most of what I do is either on the web with a tad bit of word processor use in between, both of which I find my Chromebooks will do with no problems. The reason I like my Chromebooks over my Macs is some of the same reasons I originally switched from Windows to Mac back in the early 2000's. 1) with the Chromebook essentially running only one app being the Chrome web browser, I find it much more responsive with it's instant on and quick performance while browsing the web. 2) the battery performance is better than my MacBooks and MacBook pros just as my MacBooks outlasted any Windows Laptop I ever had, including my underpowered netbooks. And finally, 3) I find them just as stylish as well as more portable and lightweight with, in my case, a much better price tag. I didn't get the $1000 or more Pixelbook, I have the all aluminum, Dell Inspiron 14 Chromebook that cost less than half as much. In fact, I also purchased a wireless keyboard and mouse and a 27" USBC monitor that charges my Chromebook all over the same USBC port giving me 2 screens to use while at my desk, plus adding two USB3 ports, yet still costing $200 less than the Pixelbook by itself. So yes, I like MY Chromebook set-up over my Macs for content consumption.

As someone who's been using a Chromebook for a few years now (and has a Pixelbook coming in the mail tomorrow), I had no problem with your video and your complaints. If you don't need heavy-duty video and photo editing you can easily trade that off for Chrome OS's simplicity and security and frequent system updates.

The only thing I'm disappointed in is that not all Linux apps will work on it, but I found Android apps to replace the two Linux apps I thought I'd need (namely, a GBA emulator and a good markdown editor) At about the same price point, it's a far superior tablet.

And so you reviews the device how? What apps do you use on a daily basis? What apps did where you able to continue using on your pixel book that are on Mac? What apps did you have to use instead of the main apps? How well did the alternative apps work? What was the battery life like? Did it ever overheat and cook your pants like a Mac? Did you experience any lag in apps loading? Did you try any apps for video and photo editing? Basically did you actually even try or did you approach this as a apple user who claims to be a truck savvy person. I personally have used Mac, windows, and linux constantly. Each time I found the comparable app to what I need and got working very easily. It kills me when KZbinrs try to review a device and give it zero effort or the bare minimum and then have gripes. Like the complaints about price and what it messes up on. What about apple and it's craptastic sticky keys? Or have u ever owned a Mac and had to rip out the temperature sensor because it shit down your laptop constantly due to an internal error apple couldn't fix. My windows laptop just broke on me for no reason. So I'm switching to chrome for reliability. Guess what I researched what apps I would have to use and found I don't need a 3k Mac or Windows machine to get my work done. Between the web apps and app store and linux 'll survive just fine. Please don't review items without giving it an actual try it can affect others who might be looking to switch and miss out on something so much better.

I'm basically buying the Chromebook just to have one, but not surprisingly, I picked the Acer Spin 713 because it's got an HDMI port on it. I am a sucker for ports, I guess. Anyway, I just wanted to comment on what you said about the keyboard brightness not being automatic after you changed the setting... one of the most annoying things for me when dealing with my Apple devices (which are awesome, generally speaking) is that when I turn Bluetooth (or wifi) off, it automatically comes back on the next day. It's not much of a problem, but my current primary Windows laptop (HP Notebook - 17-ca1031dx) doesn't have optimal Bluetooth connectivity for whatever reason. My headphone connection often screws up, and one of the things that seems to screw it up is other devices attempting to connect with my Bluetooth headphones. So, it's annoying to me when my Apple devices automatically turn Bluetooth back on the next day, because all that does for me personally is require me to turn it off over and over, when I would rather it stay the way I set it. I just heard a beep from my iPhone auto-connecting as I was typing this, actually. We get used to what we use, I guess. Anyways, great channel, as a some-time Mac user I find your videos entertaining and informative.

Going to a chromebook though i instantly loved it and felt comfortable right away. Sure they have their limitations but they do 99% of the things i need them to do. What i love about chromebooks is they're really fast and when you switch to another chromebook you can just log in and you've got everything already to go. You don't have to set anything up. I think eventually that will be the future of all laptops. Once they figure out a way to use graphics intensive programs available with the cloud chromebooks will be able to do everything any other laptop can do as long as you're online. You'll basically be using a high powered GPU in the cloud. The future of cloud computing is going to change everything imo.

Actually with the update of supporting Linux on Chrome OS you can now run Windows 10 in a Hypervisor. It would be the equivalent of a Macbook having Parallels on it to run Windows 10. So same thing can happen on Google Pixelbook now. Which helps to justify the cost. If you are an Android user the advantage of having this Pixelbook or another premium pixel book is the ability to have your Android apps, as well as a desktop browser if in Chrome OS if needed and then run the Hypervisor if you just need Windows 10. Suddenly the Pixelbook becomes very very versatile and more worthy a higher end price tag.

I appreciate the review but the point of view is just wrong and I've seen various people do the same mistake. Chrome OS is not meant to be used and your main computer, you can of course with online apps, Android apps (like Office and more) and Linux that can be installed sideways but in my opinion it's meant to be used as a mobility machine that can do most operations but encourages you to delegate some stuff, or at least the more intensive stuff for your MAIN MAIN workstation. At the end of the day most of us work on the Google platform anyway so you can do most daily operations and more and most can be achieved offline. It's just a different thinking but when you take it like this your not sacrificing as much as you think, although I agree on one thing...Chromebooks are only viable with a very low price (under 500$) for anything more it's just not worth it, buy any windows laptop or even a Mac, a used Mac for that matter...lol a new Mac for under 1000$, I don't think so. I have been myself a Mac user for over 15 years and I'm craving at a Chromebook for my next laptop just because it's dirt cheap, lately are achieving excelent built quality with long battery life and FHD screens (Acer Chromebook 715 and 714 for example), they are very capable and I don't need so much performance on the go and most us frankly don't either.

No mouse support or desktop websites, and many other limitations...no thanks. I'll stick with my Pixelbook. I have the i5 @ $750...I'm satisfied. P.s. no comparison of the keyboards here. Simple!
@MacTX5 жыл бұрын
@@perry22131 Are you really using anything on Chrome OS that a touchscreen isn't adequate enough and you really need a mouse? Both Android and iOS let you access desktop versions of websites, been there for some time now. The tablet is a niche segment trying to fill the gap between smartphones and laptops. Pixelbook is a niche product within a niche segment, trying to fill that same space. Windows and Mac laptops have gotten small enough and with a wide enough range of prices that something like the Pixelbook and Chrome OS doesn't make much sense. Google has essentially given up on Android tablets. It would not surprise me if Google gave up on Chrome OS. I can see even tablets getting wiped out as soon as larger screen (foldable) smartphones become mainstream.
@perry221315 жыл бұрын
@@MacTX that's not the point, you said you'd add a keyboard to an iPad pro. I'm stating the Pixelbook is a far better experience in laptop mode than your method. I've owned many PC's and windows laptops in my time and the Pixelbook runs far better than both.... easily. I can't say the same for Mac and iOS as I've never owned either, but I was in the market for a 2in1 and Apple does not have one. Not so niche, now that most Chromebooks are starting out at $500 and $600 now. I gave $750 and it's worth every penny.
@MacTX5 жыл бұрын
@@perry22131 The iPad Pro is a tablet with a detachable keyboard option. It's like complaining that a $500 Dell Chromebook is bulky as a tablet. You're nitpicking at that point. Also, we're talking about a $1600 Pixelbook here (what the video showcased), not the other $500-600 Chromebooks or the discounted Pixelbook you were able to get at $750. With $750, I'd opt for the $409 iPad, skip the keyboard and pencil and pocket the savings. The Pixelbook is just a much nicer variant of that $500 Chromebook. Affordable Chromebooks have been around since the beginning, schools started adopting them because they were cheap, limited and they filled a specific purpose. Outside of students or retail, I've yet to encounter a Chromebook in the wild. I guess that's probably more to do with the type of people who would actually use such a large device in public than anything else. Surprisingly, I see a fair amount of Apple laptops and windows "gaming" laptops.

Like you, I am a long time Mac user but I have been using Chrome devices since they first came out. I have been using a second generation I7 Broadwell, Chromebook Pixel since it was first released. It is truly a wonderful machine. Is it worth the MacBook Pro price tag? Definitely and I have both. iCloud is awkward for documents compared to Dropbox or Google Drive which you can integrate into the Chrome OS File system as you can with Dropbox on a Mac. Photo editing is better on a Mac but the cloud version of Google photos is decent but not as good as Apple Photos. The Android versions of Lightroom and Photoshop are available on Chrome. The biggest advantage of a premium Chromebook is the longterm user experience. It has a much better keyboard. I love the 3 to 2 aspect ratio, the system updates much more easily and more often than Apple OS, let alone Windows's 10s better but still cumbersome video system. Chromebooks are part of the Google Ecosystem. If you use Android devices they integrate nearly as well as Apple devices do. Why and when do I use Chrome? If I am browsing the web the Chromebook Pixel blows way my 2016 MacBook or my 15 inch 2.6gz I7 6 core MacBook Pro. It is faster and more web friendly. I do miss Safari's reading mode which beats pocket or the Chrome store reading Extention. For casual writing and spreadsheets, I find Google online Docs and Sheets superior to Pages and Numbers but for formal letter writing and Presentations noting beats Pages and Keynote, at least for me. I love the google apps live sharing features. I use my Chromebook Pixel mostly at the dining room table, I live alone and in bed at night. Otherwise, I use my MacBooks. The high-end feel of high-end Chromebooks is similar to that of MacBooks. The Pixel laptops are heavier and much more sturdy devices than the Pixelbooks. I definitely think they are worth the price.
