We get requests for versus videos all the time, but there are scenarios where these types of videos provide lots of interest and intrigue, and situations where they just don't make sense. We try to pit very similar devices against one another in the hopes that it helps members of our audience make the best possible decision for each of them. Sure, all Chromebooks are the same in regards to each having a screen, hinge, keyboard, trackpad, processor, RAM, storage, ports and speakers. If we look at it from that perspective, we could feasibly make versus videos until we were blue in the face and still not hit every combo.
We choose, then, to focus on versus videos where there is a deeper link between two particular devices. In this case, that link is the #madebyGoogle moniker both employ in addition to the Pixelbook namesake attached to each. Though their outer similarities end at that point, there's no denying the deeply-shared Google DNA that runs through both of these fantastic Chromebooks. Because of this, many are left wondering which one to go and buy and whether or not the sacrifices made on behalf of the Pixelbook Go are worth the lowered asking price. "My WOW, ther WOW": I constantly do my modern office-type of work from at home, ie. emails, Google Docs, Google Slides, Maps, etc. Thus 3:2 screen ratio and the brightness make my winner. I just can't do a clamshell. Frankly, I am seriously thinking about the Slate now, only because it is a tablet above all else. I really need the small footprint that the Slate offers, and because I am a heavy media consumer, the larger screen is what attracts me to it. I continue to hope the Slate will drop down a bit more in price as the new 2020 Chromebooks are released . I don't want a keyboard, but wouldn't mind having the pen. I suppose that if I was a content creator, or a student, I would probably look at the Go. But as a retired senior citizen, it's a tablet or 2 in 1 for me!

That's the idea. However, as bezel-less phones come to market--with little loss in functionality, since users can just hold the device in a different way--seeing huge bezels nowadays might be a little unpolished. _However_, the Pixelbook's screen is still so good that you really forget they're there in usage.

I purchased my pixelbook off eBay, which was factory refurbished and factory sealed. I was nervous when I first purchased it. Was it gonna be lemon being factory refurbished? NOPE! absolutely LOVE IT! LOOKS AND PREFORMS like a brand new pixelbook! Lightening fast, yes the speakers aren't great, however you can still hear everything very well! Don't be nervous to buy factory refurbished from Google. Got mine for $400 on eBay. I will keep this for a long time.

The real competition will be from the Lenovo Chromebook Flex 5 in June 2020. A 13 inch chromebook that will be faster with more features than the Pixelbook Go. A hypothetical showdown would be say a top model Flex 5 with 10th Gen core i5 and 128gb RAM, convertible, with pen support, 2.97 lbs, plastic trackpad and plastic base, better port selection. This for say $599 or $649 vs the base model Pixelbook Go at $649 with slower 8th Gen Core m3, 64gb RAM, probably better keyboard and speakers, magnesium frame at 2.3 lbs. Which would you pick? That's the battle coming soon. Is the overall holistic experience enough to make the Pixelbook Go the better daily device for the same money?

Pixelbook Go if only because it's newer and will be supported longer. Tent and tablet mode are gimmicky at best. In the brief time I demoed one at BestBuy, the speakers and keyboard really are that good, and it is definitely a featherweight device. Aesthetics and head-turning potential still go to the OG Pixelbook for sure with the dual-pane glass and aluminum, the form factor, the silicon palm rests.

I was disappointed the Pixelbook Go was not designed as a convertible laptop. Chrome OS tablet mode has come a long way and I enjoy reading the Washington Post, Week Magazine, Feedly, etc. on my Pixelbook when in tablet mode. It is a much more enjoyable reading experience. Bummer.

I think it really depends on your needs and what characteristics are most important to you. The C436 and Galaxy Chromebook both have 10th gen processors vs 8th gen on the PBG, and the ASUS starts with 16GB at the $1k mark, which is great for people who really push the capabilities of the machine AND will future-proof your device quite a bit. I just bought a PBG i5 with 128GB on Swappa to tide me over for the sake of amusing myself until the C436 comes out. I'm a moderate user (no coding, no Linux use as of yet) that pretty much lives in the cloud and I already have a Pixelbook, which I absolutely LOVE. I'm just curious about the "better keyboard" and whether the 1080 screen--which the C436 will also have--will feel like a noticeable step down from the Pixelbook. If I find that to be the case, then I might have to also consider the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook despite it being outfitted with only 8GB RAM (at the same $1k pricepoint). My guess is that 1080 will be OK, and I'll be getting the C436 though. I've had about 4 ASUS devices over the years and all have been outstanding in terms of quality, durability, and price/value. As a NEXUS and Pixel phone user and someone who once worked in the mobile phone industry, I've never been a fan of Samsung devics due to the abundance of bloatware on them and their huge marketing power (which successfully persuades people to buy things they don't really need). As someone who is ALWAYS WORKING ON THE GO due to the nature of my position, sticking to the same fast and LIGHT laptop concept is paramount for me (which is why I did not jump at the C434, which is over half a pound heavier than the PB). Additionally, I type very fast so keyboard characteristics are equally important to me. I often mock up PDFs, so I know already that the PBG will be sold once the Galaxy Chromebook and C436 launch since the PBG is not pen-friendly. Watch for a pristine PBG (and probably a PB too) on Swappa come summertime! :-) I always put a protective case and a keyboard cover on my devices so they look new when I sell them.... I'm definitely looking forward to Chrome Unboxed's reviews of the devices to launch this spring, and will be anxiously awaiting a comparison article between the Galaxy Chromebook and the ASUS C436. Without a doubt, this is my favorite Chromebook channel!

Well if you use earbuds or headphones on a regular basis then I can see how the speaker issue becomes moot. Keyboards are both premium but pixelbook has better screen and 2 in 1 capability. Pixelbook has the premium white class too.

The Pixelbook collects oil/grime on the keyboard and trackpad too easily. Robby said in another video that all the units in his office have the problem. I guess it's because of the material it's made from. Plus, the light color really makes it stand out. When the new Samsung and Asus Chromebooks hit the market, people will say Pixel...what?

Pixelbook 2017 will get updates and security until June 2024. Pixelbook GO will get updates and security until June 2026. Something to think about if updates matter to you... I have the Pixelbook 2017 and its still good to me, but the GO is newer and will last longer. Up to you if you're okay with something old.
