We do! We are just tired of being misunderstood, poorly judged or forgotten about on the tip of Africa. we love external validation and acceptance. So yes, we are super excited when people share and love the positive things we have had a hand in contributing to the world. And that's everything from the word 'Trek' in Star Trek, Trevor Noah, Elon Musk, Charlize Theron, JRR Tolkien, Nandos, Heart Transplants, Princess Charlene, District 9, Die Antwoord, Disney's Lion King stolen theme song...the list is endless. Actually it was the Khoi-San people German settlers actually noticed that the khoi slaves were able to speak to the all other slaves and easily kicked up their indigenous languages. Male Khoi slaves were then sort of domesticated and taught German so that they could communicate to all slaves and the khoi slaves incorporated the other languages such as Khoi, Dutch, English, Arabic etc forming Kaaps Hollands . Therefore all the slaves found it easier to learn the Dutch derivative because parts of their language was incorporated into Kaaps Holland and they could communicate with slave owners. That is why female khoi slaves were first used as domestic workers because they were able to somewhat understand German and could be given instructions

Although I have yet to travel outside of South Africa, many of my friends from other countries say that one big difference between South Africa and other countries is that (and I paraphrase), "The people here are so friendly!" And my South African friends' experiences overseas supports this statement. A simple thing like a friendly conversation with a cashier is not nearly as common elsewhere in the world as it is here. I might be very biased, but I think we South Africans are pretty amazing. 😊

The majority of White South Africans do not bother to learn about Black South African cultures, and the majority of Black South Africans do not bother learning about White South African culture. I on the other hand DO. My knowledge of African culture might surprise you. I did not learn it from a book. I learned it from truly spending time with my African friends, in their homes, Kasi style. I can speak Sesotho, and I am busy learning isiXhosa. My Dad was fluent in isiXhosa as he grew up in the old Transkei. Although the majority of ALL humans do not bother to learn about other cultures, you DO get those of us who are pasionate about other people and their cultures.

Depth & Laughter I love pap as much as the next South African but I stopped eating pap many years back due to the insulin resistance I heard about. I’m into bodybuilding so the ability to lose and gain weight whenever I feel like it is important to me. Pap is really for braai every now and then.
