It's just so fascinating to see a foreigner's perspective of what and how we eat! I didn't even realise that we ate bread with pretty much everything haha, but now that it's been pointed out it seems true.

9:40 "piftie", is named also "răcitură" in Romanian Moldavia. That "jello" is so tasty because is made by boiling the bones. So, basically is a thick soup, an over-boiled soup of bones. All the taste is getting out from bones, that's why is so good. :) Very thick soup, in the winter's cold = "jello". :)

Dear +qpae123, Romania did exist before and after the Ottoman oppression, we didn't conquer any territories but joined all the 3 Romanian countries in one. Also we have different culinary influences from peoples that have either dominated or lived on our country's geographical space over the years.

Look at all those positive comments and see how many people, myself included, did you manage to make happy, by talking about the bright side of this country. Thank you again and God bless you too!

I like how other people describe romanian food, most of the food he talks about can be found in the US but in another variation. I'm from Romania and for some time now I found our food a bit too fat for my taste, but even if I find it fat and we do eat a lot of pork this food is much more healthy than fast food. Big like for the video, I can see you liked our food I also hope you enjoyed the country as well.

I'm guessing you haven't tried original "tochitura" (- translation is something similar to melted) . It's done like this: You put pieces of really fresh pig meat and pieces of the pig fat , maybe some smoked home-made sausage and slices of liver into a big iron cauldron pour some white or rose dry wine and salt and just let it boil for some time in the wine and melted fat, stirring it from time to time, when it's done serve it with some "mamaliga" (polenta) and "branza de burduf" (sheep fermented cheese), it is literally the best thing ever.

Piftia is like a jelly: mostly pork made, very garliclly but it's also made from chicken or, as this guy said turkey, basically is any meaty bone food that can give you a jelly (high gelatine content), meat added! So let's say headcheese is an example even though is not really a piftia but it's close to the idea.(in headcheese bones are removed, it's not so condimented and pork is the source!) Or as an italian chef said: best thing that you can do out of pork! And as usual, Romanians do it as a delicacy! Only for Holidays!

For example Shawarma, is a Lebanese one, you will see it everywhere on all streets if you come to all Arab countries, Shorba is also an arabic soup, most of the time we drink Shorba on Ramadan after breaking our fast. Salata also sounds like an Arab side dish that i now . i'm From Dubai btw.

My girlfriend is obsessed with anything pickled. Even pickled watermelon. Mamaliga... pass on that. I like ‘meech’ though. There’s also this amazing bread with cheese in.
