When it comes to the point where you are considering using lift chairs, scooters, stair lifts, or any mechanical device to ease the burden of movement, you should consider the pros and cons of using lift chairs, especially for elderly or disabled.
Most people who struggle with advanced arthritis, dementia, or other physical disorders will benefit from using lift chairs that slowly and safely move the person from a sitting to standing position can be extremely helpful. Especially to caregivers or loved ones.
People can benefit from using lift chairs or scooters, but you need to consider the future implications in your decision when buying lift chairs, scooters, etc..
You see, as you or your loved one use lift chairs to help get you up and down, you're robbing your body of the opportunity of movement.
And we all have heard the saying, "use it or lose it", right? Same goes for using your body with practical transfers into chairs, beds, and completing other daily tasks.
By using our bodies to transfer from place to place, we get weight bearing though our joints which is critical to maintain bone density, as well as normalize the sheath production in bony articulations as well as use our mind to plan transfer movements.
So if your aching from joint pain or having trouble getting yourself or a loved one out of bed or a chair, read my full article to weigh the pros and cons of using lift chairs.

I will also say that I know that using mechanical lift chairs, scooters, and stair lifts are an awesome way to maintain a normal life when you have disabilities or are elderly.
Lift chairs in general can be a great way to conserve energy when you have disabilities like advanced cardiovascular disease or have suffered from a stroke. Lift chairs can also help with advanced arthritis.
But when you consider using lift chairs, consider that maybe your not quite ready for one.
Sometimes when we get injured or have sore joints or have lost balance or the ability to transfer oneself, they think they should instantly opt for a reclining lift chair or buy a scooter to help them get around.
However, as an Occupational Therapist who has worked with 1,000's of elderly and disabled patients, I can tell you that if you practice movement and start a gentle exercise program, you can regain independence with your daily tasks and functional movement.
It just takes some daily practice and you'll be surprised at what you can regain. If you try it doing some daily exercise and it doesn't work or causes more pain, then lift chairs and scooters maybe appropriate in your life.
