Great video and excellent work Peter! Just to clarify, our nuts are serrated locking nuts and for reference the OEM nuts from Toyota have no locking feature whatsoever. Also, as stated on our website we only recommend using OEM struts which are KYB for the exact reason you encountered. With dozens of aftermarket strut companies and endless variations between each strut it would be incredibly difficult to ensure our kit fit every option available. Always best to stick with the parts the car was designed around. Love the video and thank you for your support and kind words! :)

If you are going to do work like that on your own car, or on friends & relatives' cars, invest in a couple of those cheap scissors type, screw operated jacks. They are very cheap, and last forever, unless you leave them out in the rain for years and the then rusty screw gets stuck. They are great for adjusting front end parts when you change ball joints and other parts. When I changed the ball joints on my old Expedition, the steel spindle assembly was so heavy that I rested it on a scissors jack, so that I could align the ball joints in the holes. No way could I hold it up with one hand, while trying to fish the joint into the appropriate hole with the other. Then I remembered the 2 Chinese made scissors jacks sitting 6 feet away. Problem solved with one of them. They survived submersion in saltwater during Hurricane Katrina. All I did was hose them off and grease the screw. Never get under a vehicle without at least 2 supports under it. Pulling on a wrench has caused more than one vehicle to slip off a jack, or start rolling down an incline, and crush someone. Better safe than smashed.

Great job and video. I too lifting my 2010 Prius and found a rats droppings in my Prius. The rat had been eating my carpet , seats, and cabin filter. I put a trap but no luck . I would like to see how you got the passenger side front strut in. I am having a problem getting axle to bolt up. I did find rat and kill him sorry but he ate my floor mats seats and much more so I killed him. Thanks you for video

Very common where I'm from (Kenya), we just use cast aluminum blocks and replace the bolts with longer bolts. Nothing fancy, does the job and rust resistant. :)

My biggest problem with aftermarket struts is that they never have the same spring rate as OEM, which causes it to ride horrible/ handle worse. Just look at the springs. Dramatically different.

Wouldn't it be necessary to re-align the wheels after installing such a lift kit? I would expect that at least the camber and caster change significantly, maybe toe as well.

The company recommends an alignment.

I used 149$ 40mm spacers from Ebay, save 200$ by compressing front springs and changing the top top studs on the struts And they are rubber not metal to absorb road noise better and cheaper by 210 Dollars.

Yes I agree with you, some people just want new when the OEM is just great. Even better. Monroes on the back won't last a year. The Sachs on the front will be too stiff. Not for Toyotas. Maybe German cars. I noticed the new silver chinese brand many years ago #sensen. I wonder if it is good.. Interesting thing. I hope it works out well for them. Cowl is pronounced like cow. And I think the rats nest got in on the side vent for when you close the door or trunk too hard and the car needs to relieve pressure.

it almost still looks stock which i like. i am going to be towing a small 5' x 8' trailer with about 600 lbs of equipment so i'm considering this kit with the rear springs upgrade. anyone have a good idea what the gas mileage difference is if you keep the stock tires?

Not a very smart investment in my opinion. A 2010 Prius with over 200K is not worth all that much. It will probably be needing a new hybrid battery pretty soon. Between what they paid you to do this job and the costs of a new battery, they will be spending thousands of dollars on a car that is not worth all that much. If they really need a vehicle with more ground clearance, it would be smarter to invest the money in a new crossover or SUV.
@paulparoma3 жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly. If you live in the country, why get a Prius in the first place?
@sirdewd21973 жыл бұрын
Well... as seeing that the engines don’t go to high RPMs very often if at all it would have less wear and tear on it than a normal engine does (and Toyota engines last long anyway). Paying about 2/3k for a new battery would be worth less than a new car. They have lithium packs for the Nickel metal hydride batteries now too.
