Insterestingly enough, I have found RTW pants that fit me sometimes, not always. I’ve been known to buy cheap woven pants that fit in a thrift shop and cut them up to make a pattern :)

You have no idea how long I've been trying to find a tutorial for pant pattern alterations! Thank you for walking through the process step by step instead of just describing the stress lines and what you should do. When I looked at photos and tried to follow other people's advice, I jumped straight to trying exactly what you said not to do. I appreciate you taking the time to describe what not to do along with what you should do. This is great!

I am so thankful for you. You are my go to person for everything that is sewing. I can always count on you to have a tutorial on whatever my issue is. I just finished my toile of the free range slacks by sew house seven and the crotch is so long that I could practically trip over them. I am fairly new at sewing so I went straight to your videos and you have exactly what I needed. I had to shorten the crotch 3 inches. I cannot thank you enough for all the help you have given me.

Great tutorial. Many years ago when I was at school, drafted a trousers pattern. The teacher said they were perfect, yes they looked good but I had a problem walking in them and she could not solve the problem. A couple of decades later revisted, pelvic tilt, needed so much more at the back and less at the front. Keep up the good work.

Karina, again many thanks for such a well crafted tutorial. I know I'm not the only one saving this series for future reference. Your insight and knowledge from all your years of sewing (and dare I say making mistakes and figuring out how to fix them) is such a blessing to me! Your ability to break things down into smaller chunks and clearly explain shows what a good teacher you are. I'm so glad you took the extra time and effort (and fabric!) to deliberately sew wrong fitting pants. We are visual learners for the most part and seeing the problem and the solution is so valuable. Many, many thanks💕💕

Thank you! I have some experience drafting patterns for myself and others, but this detailed tutorial for making adjustments to pants patterns is pure gold for me. I am 5’3”, small-boned, and under 100 pounds. With your instruction, I am able to make pants that fit and don’t look as if I am hidden in tons of fabric. Ready-to-wear usually have too much fabric in the thighs, seat, and crotch, so I have store bought jeans in youth size USA slim/girls size 12. Perfect! I realize I can’t just go by waist and inseam…it is a much more complex endeavor. Thank you for this wealth of knowledge for determining where adjustments make the difference between poor and great fit!! Love from Jane in USA❤️📏🖊✂️📏📐

Thanks so much for this incredible level of detail. I was making Burda 6229 for my wife, my first pant project, and the mock-up version was terrible. After watching your series, i lopped of 2" off the front and 2-1/2" off the back crotch on the pattern, and added a bit of back scoop fabric. This threw off all the allignment marks, pockets, and i had to improvise a bit, but the end result was a perfect fit!

This is very helpful to me. You and I are very similar in our measurements. I always have problems with the length. The slash and spread is going to be so helpful. Thank you 😊

I first heard about the slash and spread crotch length, in a men's tailoring book. Apparently, tailors look at their clients from the side and decide whether Sir has a "high seat" (big bum) or a "low seat" (flat bum). I have slashed and spread ever since. The spread also puts the fabric of the back seam closer to the true bias, so a little bit stretchier.

I just made the Pietra pants and the crotch on the muslin is too long so I was thinking of taking the waistband off and just shortening the whole thing. So I'm glad you mentioned that. Thank you for a great video, so many useful tips here.

This is so helpful! I just made a crotch adjustment in my Joss pull-on pants and I did the combination you show. Except I did it backwards! I first made the crotch sides shorter using the hinge method , but that wasn’t short enough. So then I shortened both the front and back by the same amount. It would have gone smoother if I had shortened both pieces the same length first and then fine tuned the crotch sides only. What I didn’t do was measure from my preferred waist-so the pants are finished, but I need to wear them up at my “regular” waist instead of slightly below it which I prefer. I can wear them, but for the next pair I will do all my measurements and follow this video. Thank you!
