I have these AR35 with DT Swiss 240 EXP, both came in at 1245g. Best set of wheels I have ever owned, Best part has been in the descending, as no cross winds issues. One extra addition before I started riding these, were to place about 18g led strips to balance them.....allows for smooth high speed descends. (LB wheels are great value....these are my third set of LB's, RECOMMENDED).

Regarding the bladed-spokes (CX-Ray) - A lot of their advantage isn't even related to being aero. I like buillding with them even for decidedly non-aero applications (e.g. Gravel wheels) because it's dead easy to see and deal with spoke twist / wind-up during the build process. Not "needed" but a welcome 'bonus' feature for sure. Thanks again Tobias for another fantastic 'share' (I just rewatched BB Bearing R&I Without Violence this morning to get psyched up for a 6805 to 2437 swap I did - Thanks !!)
@tomalbert3299
@tomalbert3299 3 жыл бұрын
I like the bladed spokes especially with straight pull hubs, since you can prevent them from twisting (with a tool) much easier. As for your objection for me its not that critical. I use tape on round spokes to make the twist visible.
@TheRealMichaelB

@@tomalbert3299 - Smart tip with using tape on round spokes. I've heard of folks using marking pens (Sharpie) to 'tick' round spokes to visualize twist, but the tape trick is new to me. Thanks.

Hi. Hope you have better luck with your Light bicycle rims than I had. I had the rims shipped to the UK and had them built up by my LBS on the premise that they were a bombproof wheelset and a customer of there's had gone through four sets of hubs on the same rims , testament indeed, or so I thought at the time. I should mention I ordered a gravel specific rim. Basically ten months down the line and not a rock garden in sight my wheels went in for a service and yo and behold a crack was noticed. I reached out to Light Bicycle wheels who after internal investigations on photographs of the damage came to a conclusion it was an impact crack, and not a manufacturing defect .A 20% discount was what they were willing to offer on a replacement rim. I did not have much of an option but to accept there offer, after only ten months of hard packed family trails I felt hard done to. To be fair the after sales were extremely responsive and helpful with all communications. Possibly a Friday afternoon build?

That’s why I built myself a custom DT compo wheelset: RR440 rims, 240s hubs, 28/28h competition spokes. Laced them up, brought it to a friends shop for truing, and no problems at all, completely bulletproof sub 1600g rim brake wheelset for touring/conquering Japanese mountains.

You would have no problems building your own wheels. I built mine and ruined a few (three) sets of spokes and one rim but got the hang of it and it gives me a great deal of satisfaction. You could pull off a build in one try. Also flying downhill is sort of a signature close for you. I love it. Happy New Year.

I have no doubt that I would love it... I would also get too obsessed and buy tools and pro-level truing stands that are way beyond my abilities. Problem is there's not enough time. It can't take time away from riding, so that time would have to be in the expense of making videos... so that's why I don't venture down the wheels building rabbit hole. plus, It's a great way to support my LBS :)

Glad to see you back my friend, was wondering when the next video would come out! Glad to see this video too, been wondering about the Falcon rims. To me the fact that they don't need sanding out of the mold speaks volumes about the quality of their molds and also the repeatability of their manufacturing process. In other words, if I ordered wheels today, they should be of similar quality. This is very helpful info! 😎

Love the video, and the transparency about the Extralites. However, that they need to be replaced out of concern for de-lamination is a big disappointment. This seems like a throwaway product that should instead be manufactured to last much longer. When you add the weight of the rotors and calipers I'm wondering whether a rim brake alloy (e.g. Shamal Ultra) could outperform this in terms of total weight and durability.

I have the falcon pro 50, lightweight option, with cx rays, alloy nipples, and novatec hubs (because they are light and so much less than dt, and quieter). I also ordered it with out spoke holes, but that seems to mean they just add a piece of carbon on top of the holes, so everyone else should pass on that option. They weigh in at 1371 for the set. I’m happy so far. They do catch some cross wind on days with high gusts.
