So MHW is my first Monster Hunter game (despite knowing the franchise for a very long time). LBG was my first weapon and even though I’ve advanced to using weapons like SnS, HH, and Insect Glaive the LBG is still in my top 3. It taught me to study monsters and strategize instead of blind DPS.

Slice Ammo is one of the safest way of fighting Kirin. Landing the shot any where on Kirin will trigger Weakness Exploit and do solid damage over time.

I like the idea of recovery ammo, but the whacky latency shenanigans make it a bit frustrating. I pretty much only use it on my dumb support build with people I can actually speak to.

As a bow main, I love that joke about bow. Yes bow has ridiculous dps and at the same time relatively good mobility. But to achieve max dps, u do have to play pretty aggresively and put yourself in dangerous situations and it requires a loooot more skills than bowguns. Plus it has the longest sheathe time afaik. So it's kinda balanced

IMO, Karma is not worth using anymore. For the role of craft-able Normal 2, Emperor-Shell "Ruin" and "Blaze" will out damage it. The only niche that Karma has over both is CC (Karma has both Para and Sleep, Blaze has only Para and Ruin has none). However, CC will not be used for solo hunt anyway. For CC in group, I think at that case it might be better just play HBG.

How would people feel of Pierce went back to how it was handled in older gens? Basically P1 was 9raw with three hits, P2 was 7raw with 5 hits, and three was same as 2 but with 7 hits. This allowed for more focused fire on spots, and made for shots to be dependent on monster size/ hitzones(except Valor Hbg, everything dies to Valor hbg). What about being able to rapid fire every ammo type like in previous gens. Would that even out lbg's power or mess it up? Or does it not matter. Opinions, comments?

I think LBG is healthy in MHW. I prefer this "Gadget master" lbg over Pierce 1 over everything of MHGU. HBG (and bow); on the other hand, is pure busted. I guess Capcom want to reward the player as it required higher skill in general. Sadly, the invent of Mantle compensate for said lack of skill requirement.

@@kaizerkoala Not really, mantles only save you for 1,5-3 minutes. After that, you will still die. That said, they do help you get better and improve your skills, so over time, you can drop them for actual dps mantles like evasion. :-) So, imo mantles are good so ppl wont get as frustrated as without them until they improve their skills... After switching to a new weapon type... out of the 14. If you know what I mean.

@@Maalaboy While it's certainly true, HBG is also known as the weapon that abuse mantle the most. Especially Temp+Rocksteady for Cluster and Impact mantle on Glutton. Both are very high skill cap play-style in TA run but for mantle run... it's almost cheesy. And of course, you can kill non-AT elder within said mantle time. Personally, I think both build (and bow too) need some re-balanced in Iceborne. PS. I don't have problem with mantle. I think it's a good thing to have. I just think that the synergy with HBG is a big oversight.

@@kaizerkoala The biggest issue with the balance regarding cluster and spread is that they are allowed to carry too much ammo while other ammo types like wyvern and slice are limited even with crafting items on person. A simple solution to this is to increase the ammo carried by wyvern to 10 along and slicing to 45 along with the crafting materials set to the same ratio. The dps doesn't increase, but the maximum damage done sure makes up for it.

Honestly i think slice should be buffed back to what it was but only be availabke on lbg. This would make it so lbg could have a special ammo like hbg has cluster so they would both have one very good high damage ammo.

Slicing ammo is the only means bowguns have for cutting tails. They should instead add Slicing 2 as an option, and have it only be available on LBGs.

They really need to boost Damage on LBGs in some form. It makes using them (at least non-top tier, meta setting ones) for some of the whackier investigations like 15 min time limit tempered monster hunts very inadvisable.

Does RPM is an important factor to see with LBG ? For example, Taroth Support got a 63 RPM due to Ammo Up and Spare Shot, with 8 clips of Normal 2

In general, the number of ammo per clip is the highest damage improvement for LBG. That's why spare shot and ammo up is almost a must for all build. It's also the reason that Support is better than Shot. The value of clip size has diminish rate of return though; hence, people don't build Xeno on Glutton (and Support) before the released of gamma set.

Nice, so reload speed and recoil, as they can be lowered at their maximum rate with Taroth Support for N2, do they give us an avantage in order to deal damage in a short amount of time ?

@@pianta411 generally, Recoil > Reload. Recoil directly affect the rate of fire. Also, reload is in the most case are manageable if it's not really in very slow tier. In case of Support vs Shot, Support has both better recoil and reload. It can afford to take 1 close-range damage mod; hence, can make up the difference of raw power easily. Not to mention that Support has 0 affinity but Shot has -10.

Ok so ammo efficiency aside is normal lv 3(32MV) faster than normal lv2 rapid fire(20,10,10MV) dps wise due to not waiting for 3 shots to come out or does the 8 higher MV make RF faster?

Alright, I have a silly question. For elemental LBGs, is it better to target hit zones with high element weakness, or high shot weakness. The reason I ask is because of the elemental ammo's *tiny* raw damage. I seem to get orange numbers and slightly higher damage (by a like 10 or less points) when I hit a monster in a shot weak point as opposed to an element weak point. I'm gonna do more testing myself, but if anyone has the answer, that'd be great.

For the same reason that Glutton is better than Horn for Spread 3. Higher clip size + lower recoil = drastically higher DPS. Support also has fast reload and access to good status ammo as a bonus.

For DPS calculation, clip size is one of their largest significant factors. It means less downtime. Support also has good reload.

Not very good unfortunately, spread ammo gets exponentially stronger the higher tier it gets. This is because the MV per pellet and the pellet count go up each time. S1 RF is fun though, just unfortunately weak.
