This went over my head. It seems good information to know. I always had excellent plant growth with florescence Tube lighting. Lights were on for 9-11 hours a day. Winter time more-Summertime less. I had more Sun light in the living room in the Summer, but never direct Sun light on the tank.

Amazing video, great insight! Can you recommend some lighting options for HC plant?
@TheWaterBox
@TheWaterBox 4 жыл бұрын
Depends on the height of your tank. I'm assuming something 18" or higher you might have to look into more high light options: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIrIYaSne6Z6qKs

You missed exact the most important details regarding color of light, how we should use them? How long green, blue, white, red? SHould we use it every day with changing during 1 day of lighting all colors? Do we use each day different color?

Great video as always. We really need someone to put together a comprehensive list of PAR readings for the most common lights we use in the hobby. I personally can't afford theses expensive LED lights and have to use the cheap Beams Work DA and I have a couple Current USA Satellite Plus LED lights and then I have the factory Marineland LED lights that came with my 55gal kit. I'm just having to assume that all of my tanks are low light. If anyone out there has the PAR readings on these lights I would really appreciate that information. Thanks for sharing and as always keep doing what you do if it works for you.
@TheWaterBox
@TheWaterBox 6 жыл бұрын
I'm planning to get one later but in then you have to buy all the lighting too to do the tests. AND it's not always going to be right because too many factors will change the par ratings on your set up but at least it's a good start. I would make a database and stuff for it to allow you to look it up on the TWB website. Gotta have rules like no hugely off brands that no one uses king thing. Just stick to more popular stuff.
@TheWaterBox

I also want to get a spectrometer to measure spectrum. Maybe I can fan fun it?
@ACAquatics
@ACAquatics 6 жыл бұрын
The Water Box That's exactly what I'm talking about. It doesn't have to be exact numbers cause like you said there's way too many variables like if you have glass between your light and water or even tannins will change your readings but it would give us hobbyist a baseline general idea. I think a database would be really useful!! Perhaps if you can get it started then other hobbyists with a PAR meter could share information and then you wouldn't have to buy do many lights to test. Just a thought.
@TheWaterBox

Could but I wanna make sure the reading are actually sourced right. Not just grabbed from the net or made up. Ya know, accountability.
@ACAquatics
@ACAquatics 6 жыл бұрын
The Water Box I absolutely agree. You would definitely have to consider the source.

I’m glad you’re doing this topic. I’m thinking of breaking down one of my taller tanks to replace a shorter tanks. If I do that, I think I’m going to have to get a stronger light. My tall tank is 24” tall. I’m trying to figure out what light (if I need one) I should get. I have a Finnex Planted + on a 40 Breeder. I’m going to use it on a 65 Tall. I might want to try S. Repens in that talker tank. Do you think that Finnex will work fine or what light do you think would be good for a taller tank?
@TheWaterBox

Can i combine 2 or 3 philips astra led tubelight for growing plants?
@TheWaterBox
@TheWaterBox 4 жыл бұрын
I dunno. How big of a tank? Since it's LED tubelight and I believe t8, you probably can to get a low light tank. I would need to know the tank height and size you're setting it up on bu probably good for a very low light tank

I would like to get a Finnex light. Which do you recommend for a Diane Walstad type low tech tank? I heard you mention it in this series but I couldn't make out which model you recommend. The sound was garbled. Thanks!

My tank is rimless, 30 inches wide, 10 inches wide, and 19 inches tall.
@TheWaterBox
@TheWaterBox 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Christy, for low tech tanks, I'd usually go with the Finnex String Ray. For your tank at the height of 19", you may want to run two strips but start with one first as I'm not entirely sure what type of plants you're going for.

Most of the lights don't have those stats on their marketing. You have to measure it with a meter.
