Personally go 30lb braided when using 20-40g jigs due to certain fish species that are nutories for spoiling you and rubbing your leader and some cases main line around rocks. Also the terrain is very rough around my area.
@TheFishingKit2 жыл бұрын
line strength, doesn't dictate thickness. Thickness is what makes abrasion resistance. most of the time, it's your leader that takes the punishment - one of the biggest reasons why I use long leaders. If 30lb braid gives you confidence, go ahead...if it works for you. :)

Hi, I love your how to videos! I am thinking to get into shore jigging. My question is how do you find the reel to balance your rod of choice? Does the reel weight matter?
@TheFishingKit2 жыл бұрын
you can balance them by looking at the specs of both the rod and reel and find a common denominator...I like reels that are not too light, but that's a preference thing, others like heavier reels coz for them it balances more, others like light reels coz it makes for an overall lighter outfit.
@KK-gj9ds2 жыл бұрын
@@TheFishingKit Cheers mate!
@Sweetaccord2 жыл бұрын
You want to balance the reel with the rod so you can jig for hours if you even fish that long. That's a huge factor at least for me. You can use your finger. Place the rod on your finger and see how far down the rod goes down. If it goes forward too much it's unbalanced. When you go longer the reel needs to be bigger if you really want to light jig. Some will put a 3000 reel but for me that's huge. I use 1000 believe it or not. A 2000 or 2500 size is OK too. Once you find a rod you like and a reel, finger balance it. If It balances horizontal and your finger is 5" or less in front of the reel you found a nice balance. The less the number like 1" you found an awesome setup. 😊

Nice one kit! Very informative. A question regarding the jigs do you really need to get Japanese only? Or does cheap ones from China works good as well ?
@TheFishingKit3 жыл бұрын
like most things in life, you get what you pay for. You buy something cheap, it won't last or just doesn't work. The main difference between Japanese export (even made in China) jigs is the Quality Control. If they don't cut it for the Japanese market, they reject it. Could be the finish, could be the consistency of the product etc. Japanese standards are quite high...buy Chinese stuff at your own risk, some work, some don't.

For beginners going into shore jigging, is spinning the way to go or baitcaster?
@TheFishingKit2 жыл бұрын
Spin is the go for when you start. You can use a baitcaster, but proper rods for them are not easy to come by - I'd say about 90% of the rods for shore jigging are all spinning, most of the baitcasting models are actually an investment when it comes to cost...so don't even go there if you are just starting out.

Hey Mate, excellent explanation. I live in the Mediterranean and putting together a shore jig setup for amberjacks. I don't have any experience in this style of fishing so I could use your help. As we don't have access to "fancy rods" here, I went for a Savage Gear SGS6 60-150 rod. This rod weighs 388 grams and has a line class of PE 2.5-5.0. (I picked this rod because many anglers get amberjacks with 60-80-100 grams of needle jigs in here.) I would like to pair this with a 6000 Daiwa Saltist, SW Certate or the New Saltiga. These are around 375-425 grams of weight. Most anglers would match this rod with an 8000 reel but I have the feeling that it's an overkill in terms of the reel weight. Would you have any opinions on this? My second question is related to reel speed for everybody's reference. So from your answers to other comments, I believe I would be totally fine with a 6000XH which retrieves 110cm per crank. The downside would be I can't make use of this reel when jigging from a boat effectively. Is this the case? Thanks in Advance :)
@TheFishingKit11 ай бұрын
Any rod would kind of work, but will not have the full functionality of the specifically made shore jigging rod...6000 is a size I would recommend for both boat and shore more than I would with an 8 or 10K. XG (maybe XH for Daiwa?) can be used on the boat for CASTING but would be difficult to use for jigging. I have a few 6000 sized reels for casting in both HG and XG, the 6000PG I have are for vertical jigging only. The sizing I am familiar with is with Shimano Sizing. There is a difference (or there was) between Daiwa and Shimano Sizing.
@caglarugur11 ай бұрын
@@TheFishingKit Thank you 🙏 The concern is having a rather lighter reel in the leverage point, this usually puts the rod tip down which is exactly the opposite of the jigging position. So I might be creating a setup that’s lighter but off the balance. These days Daiwa and Shimano sizing are pretty much the same and XH is for XG indeed so we are talking 6:2 ratio in both brands. Regarding stock availability, we got twin power (certate SW) available only in XG and stella (Saltiga) in HG. Probably for the versatility, I will go with HG stella paying just a bit more. We don’t have GTs in here for like boat topwater themes so trying to get the most of out of a high end reel 🙂 Thanks again and one a kind note, your knot and asist hook videos are excellent, thanks for your efforts.

Right? I just wanna clarify things. So that I can buy the proper reel between a 6.2 against a 5.2 Cheers!
@TheFishingKit3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dom, the ratio doesn't matter, it's the cm per crank that is the retrieve rate. There are reels that say 7:1 but crank in less than a meter, and there are some that are "slower" 6:1 but cranks in 1.3m. it doesn't matter what the ratio says, it is often misleading, just look at the CM/Inches per crank the faster it is, the better for certain applications - for shore jigging a fast reel is an advantage. For fast jigging on a boat, the slower the retrieve rate, the better.
