@@mirandaenergypark5271 I just bought 4 x 18 week old light Sussex hens and a buff Orpington rooster the same age.i have usually brought up chickens from eggs and so they’ve been Very friendly. These chickens are terrified of me..is this normal in the beginning please?

@@deborahmartin9672 I don't have much experience with birds that I didn't raise from fertilised eggs in my incubator - like you almost all of them were raised from eggs. Having said that, it doesn't sound right that they are scared of you. Perhaps they had a bad experience from a previous owner. Just go slow and careful with them, using food to get them more comfortable in your presence.

@@mirandaenergypark5271 yes, thankyou. Yes trying to keep Out of their way so they’ll warm Up to me. Lady I bought from seems very nice,I imagine she would’ve been great with them, maybe she didn’t spend much time with them. She did say to put them in a coup for 5 days so they get used me and being here but I didn’t because the nesting boxes are in there for my other hens. They’re free ranging with my others.

Its not legal in India to import foreign breeds of chicken without a legal permit which is a huge burden to go through. You can get chickens that look like light sussex in one of the many color variations of the giriraja chicken. They are way better egg layers giving you more than 280 eggs per year.
