Nice tips to increase eye contact virtually, thanks for the share. Look at the camera as if you are looking at a person, look somewhere on the right as it is another person, same goes with the left, and then look back at the camera. That would appear natural for both speaker and audience, and less awkward interactions.

If it's going to be only one person speaking to the group, I prefer to minimise the video conferencing application, and look at the screen/camera as if there's nobody there. Having the video conferencing application with multiple windows staring back at me makes me feel self conscious. If it is one on one. I have the camera set up at the level of my forehead, so I would be looking straight at the person.

Sounds like a great first step strategy to reduce nerves! I encourage you to peak at your audience once in a while, so you can engage them. Phrases like, “I see is nodding her head - looks like she has had the same experience” can help keep your audience’s attention.

Get a technology that makes you look at the person you are talking to instead of looking at the camera and talk to the camera and assume as if you are looking at the person. You are not looking at the person you are actually looking at the camera as far as you are concerned except that the audience would know that you are looking at them. As for you, you only think and believe that you are looking at the person. This is for actors only. If you are looking at me, then look at me while you are looking at me but not when you are looking at the camera. We need technology that shows that we are looking at each other as we communicate. How can I look away from you and talk to you with eye contact knowing that I am diverting myself away form the person am looking at in the picture.
