Do you have any upcoming presentation you want to hit out the park? Michael from Lighthouse Communications offers five essential tips for practicing an upcoming presentation effectively:
Practice Aloud: Begin by reading your prepared content out loud to familiarize yourself with it. While memorizing word-for-word is recommended for high-stakes situations, aim for a natural delivery by practicing several times until the content shifts from short-term to long-term memory.
Test Out Content: Share parts of your presentation, like stories or analogies, with friends, family, or colleagues to see if they understand and are engaged by the material. This feedback can help refine your presentation.
Mark Up Your Script: Annotate your script to plan vocal delivery aspects such as pauses, emphasis, and intonation. This helps in conveying your message more effectively during the actual presentation.
Practice with a Clicker: For slide deck presentations, use a clicker during practice to avoid forgetting to advance slides during the actual presentation. Practice facing an imaginary audience rather than looking at your computer.
Record Yourself: Use your phone to record your presentation practices. Listen back to identify areas for improvement in tone, pacing, and emphasis, and watch for effective facial expressions and gestures.
Michael emphasizes the importance of scheduling practice time and sticking to it, suggesting that consistent practice leads to less stress and more effective presentations.

Hi, Michael! Greetings from a sunny and warm São Paulo, Brazil! Hope you're doing well and enjoying your weekend fully. I know this video was posted three years ago or so, but the tips you pinpointed are so up to date and so fresh that I enjoyed watching your video so much in its entirety. I particularly liked the tip about using the script, but getting away from it as soon as possible so the presentation will sound spontaneous and natural. Thanks so much for this video, and I really look forward to watching some more useful videos like this one from you in the not-too-distant future. All the best! Byeee 😀

Hi Michael, can you explain what you meant by 'tunnel vision'?
@lhctraining
@lhctraining 2 жыл бұрын
“Tunnel Vision” means someone who is focused on one goal and has a hard time seeing anything else. In the video, I say I have tunnel vision because I can only focus on what I’m saying and not on advancing the slides. “Tunnel vision” is a visual metaphor - a person in a tunnel walking towards the light.

Hi, 👍! How do you write your scripts? On what? Paper or phone, computer?
@lhctraining
@lhctraining Жыл бұрын
Great question! For this video, in pre-production I wrote the script on a gdoc and my colleague and I edited it before I got ready to deliver it. For my personal presentations for work, I write an outline on paper and rehearse it out loud while walking down the street, driving in the car, and when getting ready in the morning.
