Thanks for my Sunday fix. Being able to have fun with your children is really what life is all about!

I'm living vicariously through your family. What you two are doing for your children is amazing. They will be SO CLOSE with one another as adults, because of their upbringing. You two are awesome parents.

All I kept thinking about whilst watching this video, was how you're kids will have kids of there own one day and they'll all look back at these videos and see the hard work but fun times you all had. What a wonderful thing that will be to share these memories with them
@vanessas24543 жыл бұрын
I hope the kids don´t mind being featured like this on the internet. These videos preserve fond family memories for sure but they are all very public as well.
@vanessas24543 жыл бұрын
@Kim Smith - No, I´m not a newcomer. I have followed this family ever since they cleared the trees from the building site. The family is lovely, the parents obviously do a great job - both in building their home and raise their children. I admire their work ethic, their skills and their family dynamic. I know that they have never shown anything inappropriate, and I´m sure they never will. However - they have invited the world into their home, they show intimate details of their family life, they feature the children as they grow up. My point is that this is at the expense of every family member´s privacy and anonymity. Once on youtube, it´s there for anyone to see, anytime, and the internet doesn´t forget (even if the family choose to delete their videos later). I simply wonder if the kids mind that kind of exposure. And while they may not mind it now, it´s not certain that they won´t ever mind having been exposed. It´s not primarily about whether the content is embarassing or not, it´s just that leading a public life has it´s downsides. After all, this is their private life that´s being made public, it´s not their professional life or some kind of act. I am aware that they are far from the only ones doing this kind of blog/vlog thing about how they live but I think it´s near impossible to judge the impact this might have in the future. It´s impossible to judge for the adults, let alone for the children (if they´ve been asked at all).

I'm thinking of all the 'hover' parents out there having a fit seeing all that your children do and that they are left to do their own thing. Love how you are raising your children to be independent and confident. We raised our boys that way and they are great adults. Keep up the good work.
@ai4px3 жыл бұрын
Those “hover” parents are probably the 65 down votes! Lol. I grew up like this... making forts in the woods.
@CheleBoxy3 жыл бұрын
These kids are having the BEST childhood and will have so many wonderful memories because they are outside physically doing things instead of virtually on a game console. I, myself helped my brother build a "fort" with the neighborhood kids in the undeveloped part of our development. We spent HOURS hanging out in and around that little fort. *sigh* 😊
@sebell693 жыл бұрын
yea when you did NOT need "play" dates the wonderful times, make forts, walk on the creek w/o worrying what was in the water, unsupervised play time! I am glad you guys put chains on the hammock I dont think it would have survived all of that alternate testing with just ropes! 8)

@@ai4px when I was about 5 my dad took my cousins and I down near the creek and we took logs and sticks and made a huge tee pee. Four of us crawled in and I stuck my head out and asked Dad if he was coming in, too. He got this really weird look in his face and said he'd wait outside. I went back when I was older. Dang thing was still there. I finally realized why my dad got the funny look on his face. It was so small it barely fit 4 five and six-year-olds. Dad sure wouldn't have fit. Things look so huge when we're kids. Bet mom and dad got a good laugh when he told her later.

Just finished up our totally off grid cabin on our 98 acre West Virginia mountain land just outside of Keyser. It is nothing compared to your amazing home, but it’s so satisfying to know it’s finally finished after so much time, energy and commitment. There will always be more to do and things to add, but just knowing all the hard work has finally paid off. And you can’t beat the good old mountains of West Virginia.

the shot of Ellie going downhill, climbing trees and catching up with the boys, brought me a smile. The thought´s of the woodfurnace are in my opinion a good decision. To timeconsuming and in addition of more batteries probaly not necessary. Now, when the crawlspace is closed with concrete it should make a big differnce in the winter months and with a heatcontroll and managementsystem for the underfloorheater together with the woodstove their should be enough heat for the cold months.

My own experience was that once the structure is sealed underneath, as well as the walls (and possibly also the roof/ceiling), then the interior temperature variations were much more stable and much more easily controlled. (My cabin was 10' by 15' - basic box w/wood stove). I miss it! Love what you're doing! Marvelous! It's also nice to see the new green of springtime.
