Lightning Bolt and U0401 Throttle Body Replacement | Jeep Chrysler Dodge and Ram Limp Mode

Does your Jeep not rev up anymore? Does it have the lightning bolt above the gas guage and have a check engine light? Then check out this video as I'll go through the replacement of the Throttle Body on this 2014 Jeep Patriot 2.4 Chrysler engine. When they fail, they don't allow the car to rev up leaving you stranded. It's really in a horrible spot so no wonder why they fail!

Our Journey (exact same driveline) was throwing C121C well as U0401 at the same time, (intermittent) lighting bolt of doom on the dash, limp mode and would hang at an 1800RPM idle in neutral. That gawd awful grinding noise though was the tell all that it was the TB. That Jeep and the Journey are a "mechanics dream" and an OWNERS NIGHTMARE!!! Thanks bud!

Yep unfortunately, it's the same stuff they put in across the platform. I'd bet if they didn't have the TB all the way down low and in front of the engine they wouldn't have this problem. 👍

Have the same problem with my mom's jeep, She was tomorrow get my dad and see if it was the right part, i said screw it, popped the hood, heard the rattle, and conformed it was the part. Now its just a mater of finding the right throttle box and putting it in. THANKYOU for the help!!👍❤

I recently got the red bolt but it only popped up after my 2016 compass overheated... fans aren't kicking on already changed thermostat and coolant temp sensor

I have 2015 patriot and I had the u0401 code as well. Just got my throttle body replaced and the mechanic did remove the battery. However, he has me nervous because he stated the check engine light may come back on.. did the check engine light ever return after replacing and resetting the codes on this 2014 Jeep?

Nope it never came back on. If a mechanic tells you the light may come back on, they are either unsure of their work and shouldn't be wrenching on cars(throwing parts at a problem and hope it fixes it instead of a proper diagnosis) or there were other codes pulled as well that were not repaired. Did they mention that there were any other codes?

Have the codes read and see what it comes back. If it's the U0401 code still it's possible there's damaged wires leading to the TB as well.

My 2008 Jeep wrangler JK Unlimited has the Red Lightening Bolt. I have so far replaced Throttle Body, Accelerator Pedal and Camshaft position sensor. The red lightening bolt hasn't gone and my Jeep has no acceleration.

Getting the same Lightning bolt on my 2014 jeep Patriot, except i would also get the "traction control" light ( little yellow car with skid marks) both the bold and car would light up and then limp mode... Scanned the jeep and getting the same code. Throttle body replacement?

Yep I would start with the throttle body first to fix that problem and keep it from going to limp mode, then troubleshoot the traction control which could be a sensor or a ground issue.

@@JrZCarZ just replaced it, took about an hour. And honestly 30 minutes of it was removing the plastic piece that the electrical from the throttle bodys cord. (Not the clip to release the electrical, but the plastic clip that was connected to the intake hose) . The check engine light still persisted but I read this thing about turning the key to almost start position and slowly pressing the acceleration peddle in and slowly releasing it back to start post. Engine light has since gone away. Now I gotta take it on the highway and see how she handles. Preciate it!

I have 3 codes on my b 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7l slt. U040- Implausible data received from ECU. P2135- Throttle Position sens1/2 Correlation, P0221 Throttle Position sensor 2 circuit performance. Both Throttle body and accelerator pedal were replaced twice, and the codes won't ho away, tried clearing the codes but they won't go away. I think it might be th ECU but not 100% sure

I would check the wiring and check the grounds to make sure they aren't corroded and causing resistance, giving false readings to the ECU.

I having a issue with my 06 dodge durango limited 5.7 hemi... red lighting ⚡️ is on... and when I start it... it won't idle... then just drops dead if I don't keep pressing the gas pedal.... I need help bad!!! I don't have a code reader... so i don't know what codes I'm getting... cause I can't even make it to auto zone to even check.

If you have a check engine light the only way to know is to have the codes read so you can KNOW what the issue is instead of guessing and throwing parts at a problem.

You can buy a cheap code reader from any parts store or even Amazon to read the codes. Without knowing what the code is, it's all just a guess. Any mechanic would agree.

@@JrZCarZ Awesome, I have an Amazon throttle bottle in the box waiting to be installed. My original throttle body hasn't had any issues yet but I figured I'll replace it as preventive maintenance since I'm approaching 160k miles. They usually fail because the gears inside for the butterfly valve are made of plastic and become brittle and break into pieces.

I was called to another garage to fix a 2005 300c chrysler. The problems they noticed with the car was Hard or no start, red lightning bolt flashing, no throttle response, headlight stays on, battery and ESP light remaining ON during, most times immediate stalling after starting however, if it doesn't stall there's a rough idle throughout idling as a result an old PCM was replaced with a new one however problem still persisted. I scanned for DTC codes and saw a P0340, P2167, P2166, P2115, P2116, p0603 and more module codes like C2202, U0168, U1414, B1A25, etc. Please, how can I fix these problems? Can you also 🙏 provide me with the wiring diagram to CMP, CKP, APP factory values and how to test them? What should I be looking for in fixing the blinking red lightning bolt limp mode light, how can I reset the throttle without a scanner?
