Red lighting bolt light on 2014 Jeep Compass(Code P2173) NOT throttle body issue!!

A red lighting bolt light came on my Jeep Compass and watched so many videos trying to figure out what the problem was and IT WAS NOT THE THROTTLE BODY!! It was my intake manifold gasket that was ripped and that’s where the air was leaking from causing the check engine light and the red bolt light to be on.
I spent over $200 changing out things that was not the problem, so I hope this video helps you guys in this situation. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for posting rhis. I spent almost 1000 dollars trying to solve this issue. I have the SAME car, SAME problem. One co. cleaned the fuel injection. Another said they drove it and found nothing wrong I don't believe they drove it very far. NONE of them checked the air filter which turned out to be a major part of the problem. After I watched you I found a local mechanic (car finally quit running and would not even start in a parking lot, had to tow to his house.) told him to check the FILTER, replace injection throtle body unit. He kind of though I didn't know what I was talking about until he went in and that thing was a mess of pieces. Fixed and working, thank you so much.

Likewise. TB light and stability control light came on at the same time. My Jeep is at 237 km so the TB probably needs to be replaced, but this gasket thing is worth looking into. Thanks! I will let you know when I’m done my man

EXACT same problem I had with my 2012 Dodge Caliber. Replaced the Throttle body, no change. I didn’t have a smoke machine, so I bought a couple of cheap cigars, pulled the vacuum line from the brake booster, and blew smoke through the line. I ended up with smoke coming from around the intake manifold, but I couldn’t identify the exact location. Pulled it, replaced the gasket and the problem was solved!

Bro….! I think u might have just saved me such a huge headache. Same lights as you described on my 06 charger. Couple mechanics failed to fix it, I already replaced pcm and throttle body assembly, no change. Like you mentioned, it runs and drives great until I have to come to a stop at a light or a sign, then it will go into limp mode and the lightning bolt will appear on the dash. And the 2173 code. So it sounds like you may have just saved my ass! Thanks a million

You might have just saved me so much money.. I’ve had my Jeep patriot for 7 months, still owe $14,000 on it and this started happening to me a couple weeks ago. It’s done it twice at a stop light and once at a stop sign. All the same lights (flashing lightning bolt, trac, engine, stalling when trying to accelerate) Took it in, shop said to replace the throttle body and PCV valve, replaced those parts didn’t fix it. Will be trying this this weekend, I swear if this works, I owe you a beer or something 😂

I owe you a beer or two! It worked great! Replaced the gasket and it runs better than it has in MONTHS and the permanent code even cleared itself after driving for a few days. You saved me like $1400 which is what a shop was trying to charge me for an incorrect diagnosis

I have 2008 compass. I paid it off and on the same day all of this started happening.. thunderbolt light.. Traction light, and lump mode. I hope this fixes my sh*t man.

What’s up bro I’ve been through the same thing as you and even changed my throttle body but something clicked in my head and said it seems like it’s air coming in from somewhere so I do a little mechanic work myself and I figured out it was my manifold gasket under the engine and it was ripped into pieces allowing air to come in.

I change my throttle body after getting a code related to that, put the new one on then started getting 2173. Thought the throttle body was defective got a replacement, replaced again and still 2173. I hope this is the same issue for me 🤦‍♀️

Most of the time it’s not the throttle body but if it is it’s pretty easy to clean. I’ll say try the manifold gasket

Hey Alisha, I have the same issues with my jeep, I used to get lights on after driving for 30 min and car stalls. I cleaned the trottle body with spray and put it back on. Now I get the lights on in the morning when I start the car. It stalls or drive to work under 30 mph.

@jolivette if your having the same problem as me it’s going to be your intake manifold gasket. The gasket is seals off the manifold and the engine which prevents air, coolant and oil from leaking. That gasket usually tears overtime which causes air to come in and make all them problems occur

@@evaleelang3202 Sorry to hear that. We had so many problems with our compass and the closer it got to 100,000 mile the worst it got. We had throttle body replaced, they wanted to do intake manifold, but we just traded it in.

It was! It wouldn’t go over a certain speed and when it sits it’ll start idling by itself so I’ll have to cut it off and turn it back on

Mine too. It had been ticking like the engine is bad but I know it's not because some times it would run quiet as a church mouse. But it ran. So I've been driving it then about a week ago the check engine light came on and I keep driving daily. Then today I go to drive it and the lightening light came on and it wouldn't go over 15 or so.
