Thanks for an awesome video, one of my 4 speeds has exactly the same bent shaft and I was thinking of just selling it cheap as a fixer, but I’ll definitely be fixing it up now, very easy to follow your instructions and I was laughing at the good old Aussie Lingo, Love it💪

Such a good gearbox so underated , it was originally designed for Chrysler Australia by Borg Warner Australia in the 1970s , its Chrysler original designation was Borg Warner D20 4 speed, the Ford one fits exactly in the same place as a Ford Top loader , same input shaft splines and length , bolts to a top loader bellhousing bar one bolt hole that can be drilled , same clutch ,and mount, output shaft splines , there was a later 5 speed single rail that was not as strong and ended up in Aussie Sigmas, Holden Commadores with Star Fire Four and 173ci/2850 cc motors but not 3.3/202s it was also available behind 200ci/3300 ltr but not 250/4.1 s must have been worried about the little 5 speed breaking on bigger motors , the original stronger D20 4 speed Single Rail was redesigned by Borg Warner US , gained an Alloy case and a 5 th gear , redesignated T5 , but many Single Rail parts fit in the T5 .infact the Aussie T5s in six cylinder 250s are a direct replacement for a Single Rail bolts to all same holes and splines .

BTW IMAO Borg Warner Aussie Single Rail gearbox is much better than the US equivalent (BW SR or SROD) which has all these thick stamped bulges in the top plate, implying it evolved over time. Also the US SROD (Single Rail Over Drive) replace 3rd with an OD gear & then altered the shift so it shifted backward making 4th the 3rd gear & the the OD 3rd gear becoming 4th. I had a few Single Rails, in P76 V8s & a VG Safari wagon updated to a 265.

@@mickvonbornemann3824 the SDRO is a Ford Top Loader design with a OD, there was a 5 speed version too , they bought tooling for the Toploader from ford , there is a 3 speed Toploader too these are Different to the Borg Warner D20 . But yeah the D20 was strong and people didn't use them as much as they should have , I worked for South Sydney council and any time we would pick up an " abandoned " car for crushing at Sims metal at Mascot , if it had anything good I'd save it , I ended up with probably 40 single rails , I think I had every style , Ford V8, 6, Cortina short shifter 6 , Chrysler, P76 I even had a few 5 speed single rails out of 2850 (173 ci) Holden 6 Commadores and even a 5 speed one out of a 3.3 (200ci cross flow) XF ford .

Nice to see inside the box, not much in there really but looks nice and solid, should have fixed the 2nd gear synchro in mine back then. My daughters '92 Civic specified ATF as an option for its manual gearbox which surprised me at the time..

Weld a rib on the backbone to stop the 2 gear tip from exiting the bar.. running a twin plate and hard shifting will tear the end off.. been modifying them for 30 odd years..
