Great Job. I am always amazed that new modern parts are created to upgrade these old classic Hot Rods like a 57 vette. There can't be that many around not to mention they have had there guts torn out so many times. I am also glad that there are new pushrod engines still being created to fit in those old cars. Might not be as high tech as overhead cam engines but they are so much better than the original. Nice that people like you find ways to upgrade those old trannys to take todays HP. I look forward to your next vid.

I was in need of a manual gear box fix; thanks, Paul, for another professional-quality video. The original T10 gear looked to be not much larger than a Saginaw gear.

Thanks. Worked on one, 61 Corvette, 50 years ago & it had a mismatch on 2nd gear, they were offset about 1/4 in., musta had a special bastardized gear set. Car had the thick 2 piece aluminum bell housing/scatter shield and the front brake's backing plate had duct holes with blanking plates & a fan blade on the hubs.

Like usual, precise and to the point and just nothing to say but great video. I have a 62 Bel-Air clone 409 with t 10, it's worn out, and your video just added to the complexity of deciding what I'm going to do. I thought I could rebuild it, but like usual, nothing's ever so simple. Question is? Who do I trust to make sure it doesn't come back as a pile of shiny junk

Paul, thanks for the vids. You often point out some differences between the T10 and Muncie transmissions as you build, but can you explain more in depth the differences and characteristics between the original Muncies and T10's of the muscle car era? Also, discuss the same in regards to the modern Muncies and T10's you build today with the new cases and upgraded parts available now. Thanks in advance.

Great videos . Rebuilding t 10 1959 tranny. Will super t10 torque lock slider work better than old t10 sliders? Is there a big difference between 27 or 25 tooth in 4 th gear input shaft?
@GearBoxVideo
@GearBoxVideo 5 жыл бұрын
ratios yield different tooth counts.. Locking sliders are usually needed since those transmissions were prone to falling out of gear.

I have a T-10 in a 64 Fairlane I just got. It's not original to this car. Is there a T-10, a 1st design Super T-10 and a 2nd design Super T-10? Anyway I can downshift to 3rd ok, and sometime to second....but I have to be close to stopped to go to first. Also it will pop out of second and third if my hand is not on the shifter. Hurst shifter. Any thoughts? I figure syncros are bad but it doesn't scrape changing gears.

@GearBoxVideo
@GearBoxVideo Жыл бұрын
The parts we make out of billet you cannot get new anymore so your point is not valid. Most mid plates and covers are worn and actually making them out of billet makes them stronger than a cast piece. These parts are not for everyone so you can always replace them with used stuff if you're not interested in a performance transmission

The thrust surfaces also have to increase in width .030. It's not also a 1" bore. You need the countershaft first to measure the offset for a press fit

I was wondering if anyone had had my problem, with my VW New Beetle 1.6 engine/manual gearbox?... When changing from 2nd to 3rd gear quickly, when accelerating hard, it crunches very loudly (it doesn't do this when driving slowly and when taking time to change gear). Would a gearbox oil change help in any way?

@@GearBoxVideo if he's asking if you can get an automatic to shift that way, hell no! the clutch packs (depending on the unit) are set off by a computer. If he's referring to gear indicator on dash/above the steering wheel, maybe but it wouldn't be worth the work. ( i do rebuild automatics) :)

Have no clue who it is. I use to do the eastern states show years ago. I sell to a great deal to pro builders. They buy my parts because they fit, are correct and have a high quality. Most of the people who have a grudge would rather buy bad parts. I really couldn't care. There are always haters.

@@GearBoxVideo I guess I could stir the soup a bit, I did take his card, it's somewhere around here. On a more positive note, the T10 in my 62 clone Bel Air 409 425 is worn out, and after watching a bunch of your videos, I'm sure the 2nd gear Synchro is not gripping. But as you've explained quite clearly, there's more to rebuilding a transmission than throwing a bunch of eBay parts at it. So if I had my druthers, I would convert it to a five-speed Tremec like my other 62 Impala 409 clone, but I don't have the money, nor am I in love with the car to spend so much money and time to move the crossmember etc etc. In my next life, when This Disaster is over, I wouldn't mind bringing the transmission to you in Florida, and we can make a video together. I have lots of subscribers, you could look me up. It would be fun, and I have a very good friend in Florida that I'd like to visit. On another note, or changing gears lol, I used to have a 1977 Chevy C60 dump truck, with a Clark 5-speed. That thing made such great M22 Rock Crusher transmission noises! Could I build a Saginaw with straight cut gears? Or rather could you? Or maybe an M22, but wide ratio, so I can beat the crap out of it and not worry about breaking the T10? There's something to be said about paying extra for a car with no power again steering or brakes, and mechanical lifters that you have to adjust. The thing is so loud and obnoxious, but that's the whole fun of it, isn't it?

The transmission in this video is a super T10. The video is about converting an early T10 to a Super T10. Rewatch the videos and take the time to watch the ST10 videos. The video IS NOT and early T10 video. It's about mods you can do to make an early T10 into a Super T10. My point about my reply is that you jumped to a conclusion without really watching the video and taking the time to perhaps read the description of the video which specifically states about making upgrades. If I do rebuild videos they are titled correctly and detailed with both tear down and assembly. I don't have an early T10 video on this channel but they are covered in detail in my book.
