As I understand it, the files being identified for possible import when you synchronize could include files that you intended to delete from your computer entirely but accidentally deleted only from LR when you first reviewed them in LR following import, so by importing all photos identified when you synchronize without reviewing them, you will not only keep these photos you didn't want taking up space on your computer but also include them in your LR catalog.

Thank you, great advice. I should synchronise my Lightroom folders more often. The duplicates option on import is very useful. Still on LR6 and keep thinking og upgrading, I use On1 2022 and DXO Photolab 4 but there are some features I still prefer in Lightroom. Thank you again.

Great tip Anthony! I've used the synchronize feature for individual folders but never thought to sync all my folders at once. Maybe also recommend doing an "Optimize Catalog" afterwards? (And yeah, those plug-ins that change the metadata drive me crazy! I often force it back to what's in LR.)
@randolphvacchi19333 жыл бұрын
Continuing education is appreciated. The synchronized images now show with a small insert on the preview in Library Module which gives the choice to overwrite settings from the catalog or the disk. Is one more helpful than the other?

That was a very useful video Anthony, I will try it as I am sure there're many instances of unsynchronised libraries on my computer.

I'll second this question. I would like an option to compare, or maybe keep both (iffy on that one).

Great video. Can you explain why I would want to import a photo that is already in Lightroom. Why not check the "Don't import suspected duplicates"? Is the meta data update in the image import or is it a separate import?
@shariweidenbaum58343 жыл бұрын
thank you for this tutorial and wondered since I only store images on a EH, how would synchronizing folders work? Would LR be able to find this file on my EX HD as well? thank you in advance.
@alanross36613 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this video. I had never done this before and it found thousands of photos to synchronize. I guess every time I use plugins the meta data changes and needs to be synced.

I have a collections folder that has gone amiss. The photos are definitely in LR, but the connection seems to be gone. Searching for them one by one is not fun, but I don't see a convenient way to have LR find them.

My sync folders is greyed out. What do i do to get it
@sharonhaasbroek74643 жыл бұрын
I'm planning to do this. I just need some advice here. A while back my computer crashed and I had someone reload all my work. I now notice that I have a few thousand images all loaded into 1 day. If I synchronise will it mean that my photos will then use the "date created" in metadata to place them in the correct date folder? Thank you.

Is this to be done in Lightroom CC also? If so, how?
@stevemattson60963 жыл бұрын
Just tried this for the first time since using Lightroom. I did recover some lost photos but be aware of this situation. I had previously imported images into Lightroom from a 2 month trip to Italy as .jpg along side of the raw files. Normally I have my import preferences set to raw only but the Fuji .jpgs are so good I wanted to see them as well. After the sync process with my import settings on raw only, all of the .jpgs and the edits were removed from the catalog. The sidecar .jpg files are still on disk but all of the edit information is gone. I just lost a couple weeks worth of work on a photo book for my wife. I do have backup catalogs that I will go to as a possible solution unless someone has a better idea.
@stevemattson60963 жыл бұрын
Follow up to my comments. Restoring an older catalog file brought back my work and after that a synchronize folder action as described in the video with the proper preference settings for import ("Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos") also brought back the missing photos. Just be careful with the import settings when doing this.

Great tip idea, but..............When I open LRC (latest version) and choose the Library, it does not show my root folder for me to click on. It shows Macintosh HD then all the sub folders in my catalog but not the root folder, titled Images Master, that is on my desktop with all the sub folders in it. How do I get there from here?
@avanindrabhatia42453 жыл бұрын
In windows I can right click on the folder visible and click "Show Root folder". Hope this helps.

@@avanindrabhatia4245Thanks for the info, but I don't have an issue with the catalog on my Windows laptop......the issue is with my iMac desktop system...........still looking for a cure, but may have to just create a whole new catalog, re-import all my thousands of photos, and then delete the old catalog before doing a complete sync. Still looking for an easier solution.

I had all my images on a separate drive in individual folders. I tried to create a single folder "all images" and transferred one folder to that folder and then tried to "synchronize" it did not work and now I can't import those images to Lightroom or to another drive. Lightroom say "can't find the folder" I hope I haven't lost 81 images!!

You need to let LR know where the photos are located on your HD. Here are instructions from Adobe - Click the Locate button then navigate to where the photo is currently located, and then click Select. (Optional) In the Locate dialog box, select Find Nearby Missing Photos to have Lightroom Classic search for other missing photos in the folder and reconnect them as well. Hope that helps.
@petermarshall54503 жыл бұрын
@@ninacleven7889 Thanks, but I could not find a "Locate" button in Lightroom. I used Photoshop to locate and bring up the image; saved to a folder, but Lightroom will not let me import it.....it just shows a dimmed image and says "Cannot not locate." Very puzzling. I guess I should be grateful that I can bring up the images in Photoshop and use Camera Raw to develop.
@ninacleven78893 жыл бұрын
Just click on the little exclamation point on the missing image in LR to bring up a dialog box and click "LOCATE, then just navigate to the new location where you photo resides and click on the image. Now choose "select" and LR will remember the new location. Make sure you also select Find Nearby Missing Photos to have LR recognize all the photos in the missing folder.
@petermarshall54503 жыл бұрын
I've tried everything, including placing images from my computer to a separate drive, but Lightroom will not import them; they appears to be dimmed.
@ninacleven78893 жыл бұрын
You shouldn’t import the photos as it’s only their location that has confused LR. Did you click on the small exclamation point in the top right corner of the missing photo and in the dialog box that shows up click on the LOCATE button? That should then show you your desktop where you can navigate to the missing folder, then just click on a missing image and click on select as mentioned in my prior message. Make sure you also ask it to find nearby missing photos to have the whole folder of images recognized by LR.

74,000 images ?, that's a lot of photos. I would guess that there are a lot you haven't looked at for a very long time ?
