This is literally fencing 101 and I'm here for it
@bravenkirok314215 күн бұрын
Oh no, this is not fencing. This is choreography. Huge difference. Most of these moves would get you beat in fencing. Choreo looks good but that's all it's for. He does a fine job with this but don't confuse the two. When I fence it's a whole different system.
@thewanderingsouldooob986715 күн бұрын
I've also fenced while I was in college and high school. Of course this is choreographed but what I'm referencing is the idea that each defense vs. offense is creating a similar effect to the differently numbered defenses for fencing. It creates its own fundamental series of defenses and offenses that can be used to start down the path of lightsaber fencing. Notice how each numbered attack defends a different zone much like real fencing. That is what I mean by fencing 101. It's fundamentally cool the kind of fencing system it creates
@bravenkirok31426 күн бұрын
@@thewanderingsouldooob9867 that's fine but historical fencing doesn't use number systems in that same manner. it gets too convoluted. the best defense is a strong offense and the strongest offense is that which strikes while creating covering defense. most good fencers and scholars of the subject know this. yes, certain guards generally are favorable to counter other guards by angle of attacks and defenses but footwork and maintaining balance and measure is paramount over all. know when you can and when you cant. know how to see weakness in opponent's guard changes and balance or measure as well. as far as choreo, i totally agree that this number system is necessary because without it there would be far more accidents. eyes can be deceptive.

So heres the funny thing about old school light saber fighting, its more so trying to hit the other persons sword than the actual opponent, u can tell because both blades meet and contact in the middle meaning there initial swing wouldn’t even hit the opponent if given the chance to complete the swing. But ofc there are other blocks and attacks that look more like actual combat

As much as I enjoy lightsaber choreography from KZbinrs I genuinely don’t think they understand what makes or breaks a lightsaber fight. Yes the actual blade on blade contact is important but it’s the movement, when Force users fight the offense is constantly pushing the defense which results in new areas to battle in. The best fan fiction films understand this and use it to tell a complete story. Each stroke of the saber should tell an emotion yet when they stand right in front of one another it’s just not realistic. And yes I understand this video in particular is for training purposes it’s just something I notice a lot of choreography videos fail to grasp.
