I can imagine how this technique would be an antagonist ability because of how dirty it is. Due to its danger, the correct technique to fight it would be to use the Force since, if I remember correctly, a big weakness in Juyo is its vulnerability to Force powers. I suppose it's a fair assumption to say Juyo's counter forms would be Makashi, Soresu, and Niman.

Ray force users hardly win fights without incorporating tactics used here. Obi-Wan repeatedly kicked Savage Opress in order to knock him off balance and Maul used his hilt to knock Qui-Gon off balance for an opening to kill him.

I can see why Palpatine favored this. For a lot of sith, it was the emotion behind it (like for Maul), but for him it was also about the trickery that this form offered, especially the blade misdirections. All of the other forms leave at least a small chance of survival for your opponent, but this one is meant to almost always be deadly. It’s unlike Dooku who primarily used Form II out of a sense of dueling honor, Maul who was known to use Form VI compatibly with his double saber, and Vader who used a modified form of Form V to accommodate his crippled form. Even with the weakness of leaving yourself open, pretty much the only ones who could stand a chance would be other masters of Form VII (like Windu) and/or a master of Force powers to put distance between the duelists. The worst part is this form can pop up unexpectedly in other forms like when Maul hit Qui-Gon with his saber hilt after creating a false opening.

There's a reason why it's often referred to as the "Sith" lightsaber form. Being a favourite of Palpatine whenever he is forced to use a lightsaber. The intent is to strike / kill your opponent rather than disarm, it increases your exposure but with sufficient speed / agility it is sufficient to evade a strike rather than parry one.

Anakin was actually denied training in Form 7 because it was worried that he wouldn't be able to control the emotions he tapped into(also it was Vapaad specifically he wanted to learn, different variation than what is shown here, Juyo, with Juyo known to be even more intense and chaotic, with zilch for defense, unlike Vapaad) Anakin was largely a Form V user, which was in some ways similar but more counterstrike based.

I know that Cal would turn his saber off when maneuvering around an opponent with his double-blade lightsaber or during a finishing move, but other than that, I can’t recall him ever using false openings or dirty tricks in lightsaber duels. If you can point out an example, that would be helpful

@@josebeteta8283 He did it in his 3rd fight against trilla in the vault on bogano. They were simply powerclashing their lightsabers against each other and he just turned his off, which resulted in hers swinging through and her losing balance. Then he disarmed her and took her lightsaber, was dazzled for a moment because his force psychometry resonated with trilla's lightsaber hilt. Trilla used this time to grab the holocron and made her escape. Anyhoo cal does use quite a few rather "dark" techniques. That's not because he taps into the dark side. It's because he essentially teaches all lightsaber skills beyond padawan form 1 to himself and improvises. That's why he heavily uses stuff like kicks, lightsaber throws, force speed, force pull and more technical but still unorthodox moves like transitioning from 1 blade to dual blade to 2 separate blades mid attack and of course the famous force slow which seems to be force power many just never thought about using. Not to be switched up with kylo Ren's force halt. He most likely just doesn't know that jedi frown at this way of fighting which primary goal is winning at seemingly all costs. He just knows it works.

1:35 back when I took japanese sword fighting this was my favorite technique, block an overhead strike at an angle so that the momentum sends them slightly off balance and sliding down the lenght of your blade, take a tiny little step in and move the blade over your head and you have a full force downward opening on an off-balance opponent with their neck exposed

Perhaps one of the greatest styles learned only by the greatest of Force wielders. Impressive. In many ways, some have described it as a surrender to the Force, to strike at an opponent with such speed and angles of attack that they have difficulty countering it. Your number of attacks will increase, and you will notice many of them will slip beneath your opponent’s guard, critically wounding them, but surrendering yourself to the force in such a way, reduces your ability to resist its effects, should your enemy turn the Force against you. Be on your guard.

Basically Juyo and Vapaad combines the same tactics you implore in Muay Thai Combined with Wrestling and Judo. Add a weapon into the mix (can be done with knives as well in hand to hand combat. Exposure points feigning misdirection and utilizations of not just the blade but the hilt your own elbows as a weapon and takedowns. Juyo and Vapaad are in essence barbaric and ferocious forms. Many of the martial arts techniques attributed to Juyo could also apply to the unarmed combat aspect of Ataru, training to use one’s entire body as a weapon. Darth Maul also employed a martial art called Teräs Käsi, based on the movements of beasts.

This with a bit of Vaapad mixed in is the closest to what I use. Blade redirections, slipping strikes, single-tempo parries and reposts, even some okinawan shorinryu techniques mixed in. I don't really use the trick openings as I'm not confident in my ability to exploit them yet. It also fits my use of exotic sabers. Separating staffs, pikes, crossguard, and in the future I'll even be adding a three-segment saberstaff and what I like to call a "battosaber" (basically a lightsaber with a katana-style sheath allowing for battojutsu-style techniques) to my collection.

I like this take on Juyo. It seems vaguely described in sources, requiring the use of the force and its internal emotional components to separate it from the or their forms, but your take seems focused on it being a style that relies on killing intent and enjoying the battle which the Jedi try to remove from all the other forms. All the lightsaber forms seem very honest, so having a non-Jedi style focused on creativity, feints, and switching from heavier strikes to sudden bursts of speedy bladework would work for Juyo.

Jedi were trained to fight, its just that the ideology is to use fighting as a last result Also form 7 was a forbidden form only practiced by either the sith or those given permission by the jedi high council like mace windu. As form 7 used raw emotions in fighting which the jedi considered "bad" or as a "stepping stone into the dark side". Your statement can also be considered true as many jedi decided to take up passive forms instead of saber combat forms like form 2. Notable example of a form 2 user was count dooku, he was a jedi who decided to pick this form for fear of their return

Well that is Maul's main form. He was trained in all 7 forms by Sidious but he mastered 4 besides Juyo. It was Ataru, Niman, Jar'Kai and Teras Kasi which the last is unarmed combat. The rest of them he knows at advanced adept level.

This form is like a combination between masterful form 1,form 2 and form 4,it has the extreme unpredictability of form 1 when taken to its greatest potential, it has the greater than average precision of form 2 and it has the flamboyant, aggressive and acrobatic power of form 4,but it does however leave you open to counterattacks,form 7 is about control, not the loss of it,without the control of its immense power, the user will be nothing more than a rabid beast,form 5 DJem so and form 3 Soresu I would say are the best when going up against a form 7 user,but even then,it's not a guaranteed victory as we have seen many times that Obi Wan,the reigning form 3 master has lost a decent few duels with Darth Maul
