Amazing video Ian. Thank you so much for your review. Randy and the team at ArduPilot have done a great job of integrating the LightWare SF45 scanning microLiDAR. Kudos to our partner Ben at 3DXR for supporting your channel and doing such a great job of promoting our sensors!

Great video Ian, I'm glad you are supported by 3DXR, I hope you can keep making this kind of content and who knows I may get wallet out and purchase one, which I guess is the point. Thx

very fascinating video Ian with all my years with all things drones this is a big leap forwards for avoidance i can see the advantage only needing one lidar instead of multiple cameras plus with the right software the sky is literally the limit 😆. thanks for this and hope to see some more demos in the future on this tech . You have got me thinking rovers now ......Dam you youtube.....🤣

This is a very interesting topic for sure! I have had my eye on this type of thing for a while and it looks like the prices are coming down. One big curiosity I have about this type of Lidar is if the point cloud being generated on the fly could somehow be stored as a file onboard the rover. One idea I have been kicking around is the ability to mount something like this on an FPV drone and fly under a forest canopy or through a building in order to generate an accurate 3d model of that environment. This model could then be used for a variety of uses. This could be very useful for GPS denied environments where you want to do high-resolution mapping. Any thoughts on this or recommendations for related topics that I should look into further are much appreciated!

Can it rotate full 360 deg around continuously? If not, why does it just do limited angle? Thanks.

How do you reckon obstacle avoidance would respond if caught in the rain?

Hey man, I ran into a problem. RPLidar A2M12 was purchased. When connecting the Cube Orange + it spins, but does not work, I looked at the instructions, it did not help. Tell me what can be done. Please help me, I will be so grateful!

This is very cool! Been looking at the SF40 or 45 for a while now. What is the minimum distance you tried for avoidance? I'm curious if you can temporarily disable the obstacle avoidance via a button on the remote control if you needed to say, drive your rover between two parked vehicles.

Can I have it approach close, then code it to pass around object closely, then continue straight path? Lol. I’m deciding what tech to use for autonomous mower. (Bushes, trees, birdbath) obstacles. Pattern cut grass. I have cameras to identify next path to cut. Sharpen LiDAR would save headaches maybe.,,ideas?
