Lightweight DIY Overland Trailer! Part 3, Roof Top Tent

Today's video on the lightweight camping trailer build, we're installing the roof top tent from Benehike!
This 3/4 person tent will be a game changer for our camping needs and get us off of the ground.
After we unbox, assemble and install the roof top tent, we'll open it up for the first time and see if this trailer will flip over!
This lightweight trailer build will be towed by my 1960 VW Beetle that is a cross between a volksrod and a baja, named the Sickxty. Full build series can be found in my KZbin playlist.

I have seen these tents before but have never seen them up close. This is a great little contraption and definitely an answer to uneven ground, rocks and the infamous deflating air mattresses. VERY COOL. I'm definitely going to have to look into this...

Yes sir, should solve many issues. Although it’s not the perfect answer it’s a much better solution vs what I was doing before. We’ll find out when we tear it out!

That is such a great setup. Even in case the thing tended to tip over you could always add folding supporting legs like on excavators.

G'day Gary, Well I'm very impressed. A+ But I'd make a couple of changes. 1. The fixing bolts should have a plate on the inside, say 100mm x 50mm x 3mm thick. And stronger steel plates on the underside bolts as well. 2. To be on the safe side, I would anchor the trailer from the top of the aluminium to the ground so as to eliminate tipping altogether. And, of course, the front trailer stays. But I want one, the quality is certainly up there with the best. So thanks for sharing man ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.

Yo Kevin! There isn’t room for a plate on the inside track. Most all tents that I’ve seen are the same way. I do agree that a plate in the track would make it stronger. I do plan on modifying the under side plates as well, maybe even thicker ones. Believe it or not, it’s extremely sturdy and hasn’t had the slightest inclination of tipping…. Even with Levi and I in there moving all around. It’s cloning together and can’t wait for you to see the final product. Hope all is well!

I try to plan ahead on most anything I do however things come up or they don’t go according to plan so you just have to be flexible. Stay tuned, we’re not done with this setup yet and then we take it camping!

I’ve done more to it since this video and I’m guessing it’s around 450-550lbs fully loaded. I’ll eventually weight it somehow or take it to the weight station because I’m curious as well.
