Rear Door Fabrication and How To Heat A Roof Top Tent! Lightweight DIY Overland Trailer Part 6

Today's video we need to tie up some loose ends because we are about to take this new rig out for it's first maiden voyage!
We need to fabricate a rear hatch door for the storage area and then I found out it's going to be cold in florida this weekend so I ordered a diesel heater for the roof top tent! The all in one heater will definitely keep the roof top tent nice and warm once we set it up.
This lightweight camping trailer build will be towed by my 1960 VW Beetle that is a cross between a volksrod and a baja, named the Sickxty. Full build series can be found in my KZbin playlist.

Thanks Kevin, I appreciate that sir. I ended up finding a small grill cover that covers the heater perfectly and then threw a strap across it to ensure the cover doesn’t come off. We shall see how well it all works on the next video!

Excellent upgrades Gary! You won't be disappointed with the diesel heater, I've got a 8k in the front of my bug and a 8k just like you bought for around the house. I'm glad you got the insulated pipe, one suggestion is to buy a extra long exhaust pipe to connect after the muffler to get the exhaust as far away as possible. Then you can simply disconnect, store it and on your way down the road. Don't forget to check your bearings and lug nuts(wouldn't hurt to check your axle nuts too) keep up the good work!

I’ve been hearing great things about these heaters. Luckily we don’t need them much down here but I’m sure it’ll be used once or twice each season, definitely worth the cost. I did end up getting a longer exhaust pipe and routing it further back to keep it away. I checked the bearings, degreased them, etc before I stated the build, back when I used it in the stock form for a camp out in November. Appreciate ya my man, hope the family is well!

I've spent the night in my camper at home many times. `Looks fantastic. Run it over the scales at your local landscape sales. They usually weight me for free if I don't ask for a receipt.

I’m towing it about 40 miles away for the next video for a camping trip so we’ll see how it does. At least it’s usable now even though it’s not done. We can see what changes we need to make. I definitely want to run it across some scales when it’s finished up to see how much it weighs.

nice update and i have the 8kw heater that i,m using with red diesel. less expensive and burns about 1 liter/hour on full throttle. you will not get cold over night with that heater. one tip, keep the exhaust downwards and don't go up with it. it will cloth all together inside by making condens. well overall a very nice trailer and you have everything with you on a camping trip. well done Sir.

That’s good to know, thanks man. I did re angle the exhaust to point down so it doesn’t clog. Should be good now at least. The setup should hold me over till it gets hot outside, then I’ll need to figure something else out 😂

@@VWJawbreaker yeah better be sure then a broken heater. mine runs on red diesel fuel for more then two months now and i don't get any smoke or smell. it burns way nicer then ordinary diesel fuel. never use used motor oil ore it's RIP heather.

@@VWBEETLEOVAL1955 red diesel and regular is the same here except the red is for “off road or farming” and is taxed differently. It’s the same fuel, just with red die in it. Don’t have any place very local to me to get red so I used regular. So far I’m only out $4 worth of fuel and that’ll cover me for the next trip also 😂

It doesn’t really turn off and on, kinda ramps up and down if you have it set for that or just leave it on the fan setting if your choice.
