AT FLIPPIN' LAST!! I Finally find an explanation for this!! The reason you get this question so often is that it is where most of us newbies want to start, chopping up a long video and messing with it, but NO ONE ELSE explains it!!! Thank you for explaining, thank you for being clear. now off to look at your other tutorials.

I love these tutorials! During the COVID 19 isolation, I'm finally getting a chance to play with Lightworks and these are a huge help. Two questions for you. Once I import a file into Lightworks, can I delete it from my computer and it will be saved in Lightworks, or does importing it just create a pathway? 2nd question, if I do delete the original file on my computer, can I find it somewhere "in" Lightworks so I can use it in another project? Many thanks.

That's a really good question. Usually, Lightworks will make a copy to the path of that movie. That means that you can edit the movie, but if you then delete that movie, the next time you open up that movie project the clips will be missing. There's a couple of things that you can do to solve this: Firstly, save your movie clips into a special folder, and then back that folder up somewhere. If you ever need those clips again, you'll have a backup of them. Secondly, you can edit your movie, and then create a backup of the project. You can include all the clips you used in your project in that backup. So when you restore your project later, your edits AND your original movie clips will be restored. You have to remember that Lightworks Free version doesn't let you choose WHERE you save anything so you have to make sure you are backing up your stuff!

Mad Tech Thanks for the reply. Good to know about the difference with the free version. Not sure I’m ready to take the leap, as this is just a hobby for me. Still, thanks again.
