Finally, another Lignum video! Something that has always amazed me is how beefy (heavy-duty) the front doors are in Europe compared to North American front doors. When visiting a friend in Sicily I noticed his front door was stronger than anything else I had ever seen anywhere, even Marseilles or Athens, stronger than a bank vault door (but that's Sicily). And, as a retired carpenter, I always carried a purse with me when hanging doors. 🙂
@lignumchannel2 жыл бұрын
😁purse is a must have! I was thinking about going pvc for front door but thankfully a great carpenter was willing to make them and made an offer couldn't refuse😉 They will surely fit with the siding better than pvc..

Awesome! So glad to see the next video in the house build. Not saying your last two videos were not good, just we love seeing progress on the house. Love the color of the stain on the doors and windows. And yes they can be very heavy but beautiful. No shame in hiring out the stucco work. Sometimes it is best to get a crew in to do a job like that when time and the weather does not cooperate. Trust me there will be plenty more work for you to do on the house. Thanks for making and sharing this video. Hope all is well with you two! Take care.
@lignumchannel2 жыл бұрын
Glad you like the work done.. The stain is the same one we will use for larch siding, just without extra varnish. Hopefully it will go together nicely even though siding will be different species of larch.. I will have to start hiring more professionals because my regular work is starting to suffer.. Other option is to go full time youtube but I feel it is just too risky..

@@lignumchannel You don’t appreciate the Value of something that comes Quick and Easy.! The things you work hard for, and put extra time into end up being the things you appreciate the most later in life. It looks like the timing of everything on the house is not competing with weather, you can now concentrate on the interior, finish up the exterior and be sitting cozy inside next fall or early winter. Stay safe and enjoy the excitement of progress as it comes. 👍🙏 Plant a few carefully placed trees now or early spring to provide shade and beauty to your new home and in turn give them a head start. @lignumchannel2 жыл бұрын

This is a major milestone - the house is weather-tight for the winter, which I guess is pretty severe. I notice you've got triple-glazed windows - in the UK we're well behind the times - around 95% (I estimate) of all window replacements are only twin panes. My house which had new windows around ten years ago is only double-glazed. I wouldn't feel embarrassed for sub-contracting the surfacing work on the exterior walls. By engaging the contractors yourself you still maintain control of the project - which is what we;ve been doing. The only problem is that they are all furiously busy and we have to wait months for each one, who on the appointed day doesn't turn up and doesn't answer his phone. The music is a treasure I'd forgotten about, and thoroughly enjoyed. I still find it funny how, early in his career, Mozart wrote symphonies of such small scale when compared with mighty works of the same name that immediately followed him (thinking Beethoven, here).
@lignumchannel2 жыл бұрын
Yes this feels like a major part is behind us and I can start looking forward to some easier and more satisfying interior details.. And the situation is the same here, you have to wait for months for quality subcontractors. I waited for windows for almost half a year. But I will have to start hiring more because I can't afford any more time out of my regular work.. And as for the Mozart, this piece is one of my favorites I used so far:)
