Absolutely brilliant documentary about what's maybe the most important observatory ever created. It is a superb film-remarkably emotional at times. Just awesome!

As so often happens with KZbin, this just showed up one day. It looked fascinating, so I watched and listened. Oh my! Glorious!

This has been up for a month. Why only one comment? I understand so little of this, yet I'm crying with joy.

This is one of the greatest documentaries that I have ever seen! Congratulations to all the brilliant minds that contributed to the realization of the LIGO and thank you for this unique insight into the story behind it! 😄

Is there a pattern or timeline of expected waves for the future? Can we predict it using the numerical simulations shown in the documentary?

C'mon folks we have been able to see gravitational waves as long as we have looked out to sea and seen the tide come in. If Albert was right then these waves are caused by the distortion of space/time. There is still so much to learn. Our earth sun and moon system operates over days and months. Some Binary star systems are rotating around each other at very high rates and may even produce sound when affected solids are stretched and relaxed by the space/time variations. Here are two interesting thoughts. Do the variations in space/time interfear with each other. Are there Doppler effects detectable in one direction compared to the Doppler effects in the opposite direction. Would love to see the papers these guys produced. Will start to search for Ligo results.

What earthquake in Mexico in September 2015 that was 2000 miles from Livingston LA? There is no place in Mexico 2000mi from Livingston La. The Topolobampo offshore quake on September was nearer to 1200 miles away (and ~1600mi from Hanford Location). Did it only affect one location, or both and they are adding the distances and rounding up? And, did the quake in Africa only affect one or both centers?

One of these needs to be built upon the moon to get some observational margin among the decimal places.

What about super massive black holes being binary systems? How powerful could a gravitational wave end up being? On a long enough timeline could all black holes eventually merge?

I really like how the funding was gonna get cut and bam just like common sense predicted, it found an amazing observation. Just like that funding approved again. Nothing but cartoons for adults.

9:28 I'm afraid she is overestimating people. My mother, brother and grandmother, and most of my cousins, would have no idea what I was talking about if I mentioned gravitational waves and LIGO (also, an insect gets stuck in her hair).
