I am an evangelical Christian but I have always loved Jeffrey R. Holland. The love and compassion he has for people radiates from him, you can even feel it through the screen of your electric device!

Rob Mullen, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland is my favorite Apostle. I love his talks, his advice. I feel as if he is talking directly to me. I pray for his and his wife's health. I know we all have death waiting for us, but I pray to Our Heavenly Father to spare him, heal his body. I know I'm not the only one who needs his knowledge and spiritual direction. I thank him so much for what he has given me and he doesn't even know. I've never met him in person, but his talks are so on point and full of emotion, I always have tears running down my cheeks when he talks. My fondest wish is to meet him, and tell him how much he means to me, what he gives me in his talks.

@Stephanie P, we're so sorry for the hurt and pain you've experienced. It is so difficult to feel like we don't fit in. At times when we feel alone or excluded it can help to know that Jesus Christ knows perfectly our sadness and hurt. He was despised, rejected, misunderstood and betrayed by those who should be His friends. He will never leave you and He is always there! Continue to pray to our Heavenly Father to feel His love, keep your covenants, and you will be blessed for the kindness and forgiveness you extend to others, even when you don't receive it in return. After my parents divorced I started falling hard in depresssion. I was 17 and I didn't want to continue with my life anymore. I would cry and cry everyday. I was scared to continue in life I didn't want my own future marriage to go in the route of divorced. My anxiety grew and I would get many panic attacks. I couldn't sleep many days. I fell away from the church because I felt like god left me alone. I felt truly alone. Tried to take my life two times. I thank my patriarchal blessing though because of that blessing I read one day it turned my life around. My perfect life was in that paper so many promises. I ran to the bishop, went to the doctor. I got a calling in the church. I'm going out to teach with the Missioneries. I love this gospel I love the atonement. I love my savior cause he never left me alone. I strive to become like Jesus everyday. We are not alone please remember that ❤

I'm glad you are still alright. I too have a history of self-hurting and suicide, i remember one time i tried to kill myself by hit my head repeatedly into a wall, halfway through, it got so painful that i couldn't feel my head anymore so i lie down. Then i remember about a game i like coming out next month so i thought, maybe wait for a while before killing myself? And that thought has kept me alive through various attempts. My point is that when you think about taking your own life, also think about what you love and what you might miss out should you choose to end it today. Though my depression has not gone and i can't talk with my family about it, i would not try to commit suicide before thinking twice about it. Hope it works for you guys too. Your life MATTERS, you are MATTERS.

I might go so far as to say no weakness is a fault at all! I would say weakness can be the cause of faults. But weakness in and of itself is never a fault. It is something that can even be useful, as Ether so acknowledges. If weaknesses can become strengths, then they are not to be discarded. They are to be transformed instead.

I remember being a little child. I remember feeling so small and lost and unwanted. I remember thinking terrible things. But in those moments, I had something to cling to. "I am a Child of God, and God and Jesus love me. And if they are perfect, and they love me, then that must be right. I am loved." I can honestly say that if it weren't for the lessons I learned in Church and at home from my parents, I don't think I would be here. There are still times where I cannot muster love for myself. But in its stead, I can borrow my Heavenly Father's love for me instead. He knows everything, and if he loves me, then it must be right.

you are you, you can decide to be kind to others as you wish them to be kind to you. nobody is perfect, if there was perfection then there would be no problem solving. the best thing is to leave a net positive in the world, anyone who claims to know all the answers has stopped asking questions, and why is it ever bad to ask questions? from a child to discover their own feet to testing the limits of a parent's moratity in teaching us. testing limits is how we find out the boundaries of our world, any "god" that says they have all the answers makes me wonder why they don't want me to ask questions. if the answers are right, why not stand up to questions?

I've been dealing with emotional and mental issues since I was five years old. This was just what i needed today. So much strength in Elder Holland. So much. My mother told me that if I could read the WHOLE Book of Mormon before the October General conference, I could go down to Salt Lake and watch general conference in real life. I'm so excited. I'm so glad that I get to see Elder Holland. And President Monson. The scriptures are what I do to get me out of those moments where my mental illnesses kick in. I turn to the scriptures. Priesthood is also key. Amazing what we can do with the restored gospel.

Did you get to go to General Conference⁉️⁉️. I seriously hope you were able to attend‼️. It is an especially wonderful experience but can also be very over stimulating and exhausting too so I hope and pray that your mom and you were able to take picnic foods to feast your physical needs as you were able to partake of the Spiritual Feast as supplied by our terrific general authorities--In between sessions that is.☺️Mental illness challenges don’t make appointments to “burst on your scene”. It often is at its worst at the MOST INOPPORTUNE times-of course! I hope and pray that you are finding the most effective ways and means and people to help you along your life’s path.-YOU ARE NOT ALONE- the adversary would have us buy into believing that we ARE alone. --WE ARE NOT ALONE-- and there are others just waiting to be asked to listen!!! May Our Heavenly Father’s blessings for you be REALIZED by YOU. You are a ONE-&-ONLY, even if you have an identical twin‼️. I know this for a fact because I have had two(2) sets of twins as a mother and none is like another except visually-and even then, visually, there are uniquenesses in each individual!!!! ALL are GLORIOUS in Our Heavenly Father’s Eyes and Heart. And our Elder Brother, Jesus Christ, came with that very message... and He is committed to seeing us through this life-maze and returning to Our Heavenly Father’s Presence, “...trailing clouds of glory..” YOU CAN DO LIFE‼️ One moment-at-a-time.

I've suffered all of my life with physical and mental illness but the Lord has always helped me, I am not cured I still struggle every day and some days are harder then others ...still my savior places people in my life to help me,he also removes those who hurt me when I am too blind to see that they are toxic to my spirit. I have wrestled with serious adversaries and have been saved by the Lord's grace and love. I've lost my hope several times before and he still showed me love. He still abide with me even when I couldn't take it anymore and wanted to leave this world and tried to 3 times ,he still showed me love and forgave me and blessed me. And because of my illness he has helped me learn to have more faith in him ,to love more deeply, to have more compassion, to be stronger in the face of fear and to love one another. After praying for answers for why I could not be healed from my depression and would I ever be whole in my mind and heart in this life, this talk saved my life that general conference day. Elder Holland told me to time a knot in my rope and hold on. Amazingly, i made it through that moment, and have come out on the other side. As someone who personally deals with anxiety and depression I can 100% relate to this. The fact that there are days when you feel like you just can’t go on….. that the pain will never go away…. While I still fight this daily, I know that my Savior is with me and that you can still find joy in this life. And when it’s time for Him to call me home, I’ll be ready. But as long as I’m here…. There’s a reason and I try to make the best of it. For all of you that are struggling - know that you’re not alone. Pray and ask for His help. He is there and he’ll help you if you’re willing to take his hand 🙏🏽

There have been so many times i have relied on reading Elder Holland's talk to get me through a day, Im really glad this video has been made. Ill use this fairly often for good and bad days Im sure. Thanks

since i have depression and anxiety, i often times beat myself up. But elder Holland and the Holy Ghost help me remember that i have no reason to be so mean to myself. That despite my short comings I'm still loved. the Holy ghost has helped me before but hearing an apostle helps me know that I'm not justifying my actions by thinking its the Holy ghost you know?

I am indeed a Christian. And sometimes I have a hard time being able to tell which is which but there's another Mormon message called patterns patterns of light that explains it really well. The moments when it's most clear to me it's the holy ghost is just a moment that it feels like someone is right by me. Faith isn't knowledge but hope. I do receive clinical help for it, and I've gotta say modern medicine and practices are a blessing in and of themselves

The white J Cole That is a great question and honestly I don't know. Though if I did it wouldn't be called faith. I do believe that each religion has it's aspects that promote the spirit in different ways. Service to someone is a good thing regardless of what religion takes part in it. Deciding which religion has the full truth is to our own decision and agency.

I personally have genetic depression. I've been lucky enough to be able to control it well enough in these recent years with the help of those around me. A friend of mine is now going through a very dark time when before he was a shining light to me. It has been seeming that no matter how hard I try, it seems as though I've lost my friend. I needed peace this morning, and this was the first video I saw. Not everything has been solved obviously, but at least I've been reminded that I shouldn't lose hope. I didn't lose it before, and I most certainly cannot lose it now. I love my Savior, and I am forever grateful for what he has done for not just me, but for all of God's children. I know not everyone will share this same belief, but I would hope that we will all be able to believe in hope itself at the very least. It's worth holding onto.

I hold this talk up SO high. I watched this going into the MTC and LOVED IT at the time, went out on my mission and struggled, came home with a bit of PTSD and it seems like the trials have come in all shapes and sizes since coming home. Anxiety is real. Mental illnesses are real. But hope it real also. I love that the church is making these topics important.

Thank you Elder Holland, for this inspired message and update. My nickname is HOPE and I earned it the hard way. I too, share my story with others to help build awareness, understanding and erase the stigma of chronic mental health issues. Bless you!

The white J Cole We are blessed to have both! There is no substitute for spirituality; it's truth. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints teaches of your divine nature and individual worth, (You are NOT your illness!) Gives eternal perspective on your purpose in life,(YOU are needed!) Helps understanding of why everyone has some kind of adversity to overcome, (Opposition makes you stronger and gives you the compassion to help others when you are able.) Teaches you how to pray, receive answers, comfort, & guidance.(You CAN forgive & forget and become clean.) Gives you a local support system (Ward Family) to call on. All of this helps to endure the hard times and get up every time you fall. Even if you cannot feel the Holy Spirit because of illness or meds,or find the support yet, like they have for diabetes or cancer, you are NOT alone: I love The Holy Bible KJV (visualize Christ pulling you up out of the sea, into his warm embrace like Peter) and The Book of Mormon.(visualize holding on the iron rod through the mists of darkness. Then take baby steps. And when you're tired, remember there are angels around you to bear you up! The Dr. experiments to find the right medication at the right dose, sometimes for years and the side effects can actually make things extremely worse, before you get better. You must exercise faith & endurance that YOU WILL GET BETTER. Spirituality can help see you through. Kindly enlighten me on Psycho/bio treatment. Is that like cognitive or behavior therapy? God bless!

Sometimes the brokenness doesn’t always get fixed or healed in this life. My thorns aren’t gone but loving God, trusting Him, that phrase “Don’t you quit!”, helps me to hold fast to that hope and believe that God’s grace can get me through.

Thank You for putting out this wonderful video ........ Everyone needs to see this and know that Our Heavenly Father loves us, knows us , and wants each of His children to be whole and happy and know that this life is just a second compared to the eternity that waits before us all. I can't deny that God lives and has helped me in my life. He has shown me that He is aware of me always and knows whats inside my heart and mind. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, I Love You for not giving up on me and showing me Your tender mercies as recent as two weeks ago when I had cancer surgery. I've been inactive for years and almost lost my testimony of this church, but the peace has come back into my life and I want to serve God and honor Him for loving me, even a lost sheep that I've been that He has again found me and I Him.

What's even greater is to realize we're not broken in the first place. Pain is real, yes, but brokenness is not. We don't need to find all the broken shards, cutting ourselves on them, trying to glue them back together... instead, we step out of their facade as they disappear to dust, we step out whole as we ever were, into the light. Professional help may be required, absolutely. There may be real issues, but they are issues, they are what they are, there is no brokenness.

Midst life's thorns, thistles, and obnoxious weeds You can become trapped and develop disease Defeated with stress high and energy low The frazzled mind takes a psychic blow Coping skills shut down, you're in need of rescue As you can't think your way out or know what to do Thoughts are stuck feelings in a circular fashion To break the cycle you must pray with passion A hymn is a prayer and a soothing balm Hum them, sing them and your heart will calm Believe in the atonement and, for you, Christ did pay And then your tears will flow in a different way
