I have a theory that they didn’t actually talk to one another. It sounds like they just texted each other. Why didn’t Wayne simply ask Kendrick what he meant? And he still didn’t congratulate Kendrick. “You better kill it; you better smash it” is not necessarily congratulating Kendrick for achieving this. Wayne did a lot of damage by failing to come out sooner to squash this. All he had to do was call Jay-Z or try and speak to him and/or Kendrick privately. Perhaps Jay should have reached out to him to let him know before the announcement. I just think this whole thing is unfortunate and places a lot of pressure on Kendrick. And a lot of jealousy and hate, in my view, from some in the industry, OG rappers, Drake, Wayne and Young Money fanatics, and fans of Wayne and Drake on these sports and entertainment shows. There seems to be quite a backlash against Kendrick.

I'm a Mexican American who listens to classic rock and watches wrestling. So of course, my opinion and perspective is that of an outsider who is aware of pop culture. Lil Wayne is part of pop culture. When I saw Lil Wayne's "performance" at Wrestlemania I was confused and by the end of the match said, "Well at least Lil Wayne's performance matched the match" and moved on. I became aware of the beef when two very different KZbinrs I follow both brought it up. Because of the amount of Beef content I consumed, the algorithm suggested Lil Wayne's various Super Bowl responses. My immediate response was that someone is making a lot of money off of him, and it isn't Lil Wayne. Then the tweet. I, again as an outsider, had the cruel thought that with the amount of drugs Lil Wayne's handlers are feeding him, nobody is waking him up. Hearing him say it was the first time he heard the lyrics really solidified that thought. I can't help but think of MJ in his final days, surrounded by Yes Men who are willing to put someone else's life on the line just so they can keep the gravy train going as long as possible.
